Not quite sure about RebaT, but I think you’re right about robhug71 not being a Steelers fan and just claiming it as a way to push our buttons. All this “your boy Ben” and “your hero” stuff–it’s like talking to a schoolchild. It trivializes the discussion.
The irritating thing is I’ve never defended Ben. I’m defending a principle that you don’t railroad a man on gossip and innuendo. We still don’t even know what the girl alleges he did. But I’m confident, based on her statement and subsequent court filings, that he didn’t rape Andrea McNulty. And since he’s innocent of that sexual assault, it makes me seriously question the likelihood that he suddenly ran out and committed this one. I’m still waiting to hear any evidence to suggest otherwise.

My post was in answer to someone up the page who had wondered what Roethlisberger’s BAC was. I was trying to provide what info I knew on that subject.
You people are so paranoid, it’s pathetic.
I doubt if you know if a football is blown up or stuffed, yet you pretend to be rightious Steelers fans out to protect your beloved quarterback.

They’ve been playing professional football in Pittsburgh since 1933. Each and every season, someone has quarterbacked the team. That trend will continue, with or without Roethlisberger.
No one player is bigger than the organization. That’s the way it’s always been in Pittsburgh. I learned that in 1984, when they sent Franco Harris packing to Seattle.
If you are so convinced Roethlisberger is innocent of any wrongdoing, why are you always in such an uproar?
Dan Rooney is a presidential-appointed Ambassador to Ireland. I doubt very seriously if he enjoys hearing/reading the words “the Pittsburgh Steelers” and “sexual assualt” mentioned in the same sentence.
I know I’ve had my fill of it; have ever since last year. If you enjoy the drama, great. Have at it.

The guy spent an evening in a bar and had a buzz on. Isn’t that to be expected? I no longer drink, but why consume alcohol if not to feel the effects of alcohol? Why not drink Coke?
Since I was over 18–no longer a minor regardless of legal drinking age–when I drank, it was my job to monitor what I consumed. If I overimbibed, that was MY responsibility.
I totally get that you think Roethlisberger is an overrated QB. I totally get that you think his off-field behavior is reckless and boorish. I don’t get why you are so anxious to paint him as a sex offender that you are now finding fault with his non-drunkenness.

Sometime this week, bar manager Rocky Duncan was asked if Roethlisberger was drunk on the night in question. Duncan reportedly said: “Was he the drunkest person in the bar? No. Did he have a buzz going? Yes.”
Take that for what it’s worth.
Do you know how many beers it takes to intoxicate a 6-5, 290-pound man? I’m guessing probably a few more than it takes to intoxicate a 20-year-old coed.

Thanks for the info! Since my DVR once overwrote something I didn’t want to lose (SBXLIII–which, thankfully, reran in its entirety on the NFL Network) that now makes sense.
The locals immediately called in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. They’ve handled this case from the start.
It was revealed when the recordings were first mentioned that there were no cameras in the VIP room where Ben & co. were partying or in the bathroom area that serves the VIP room, where the alleged incident occurred. So even if the recordings had been preserved, they would have been of limited use.

Let me explain it to you who have no idea how a video system works
It is a Digital Video Recorder and when the hard drive is full it over writes it self it is not a tape it is a harddrive
The Keystone cops should have taken the footage they wanted off the machine this is not foul play this is how the machine is made to work.
Why do I know this I am in that business the machines can store as much as a few TB of video or as little as 100 GB I know to some 100 GB sounds like a lot but when your storing video from various cameras it goes fast in a bar very fast. The systems are normally set to record on motion and in a bar that would all the time the place is open that would eat a harddrive very fast.
The cops should have burned a copy of the video then it would not have been over written of course it goes to show that this case should have been give to the State Cops not andy and barney

According to a March 14 article in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Roethlisberger and his friends had dinner that night at the Eenoco Japanese Steak & Sushi restaurant a few miles from his home in the Reynolds Plantation resort.
A little after 9 p.m., he told Eenoco owner Heath Burton he was going to drive to Millegeville. “He told me he’d never been down there,” Burton said. “He’s always a nice guy. Very sociable. But he doesn’t like a lot of people hounding him. He comes in a few times a year and will bring his offensive line. They’re great guys, too. We’ve never had a problem with them.”
He should have stayed at Eenoco.

I may well have jumped on you unfairly. When this story first broke, most of the Steelers fans who commented condemned Ben’s reckless, irresponsible behavior but cautioned that everyone needed to wait and let the evidence determine his guilt or innocence–pointing out that the evidence presented in Nevada refutes Andrea McNulty’s accusations. But very few attacked the Georgia accuser with terms like “slut.” Of course, Florio’s articles are designed to incite extreme comments from both factions, which then incite more comments, so the posts on both sides are getting dirtier.
Yes, I have been Patty Poster on this topic (she says with a wry smile). Neither the Nevada or Georgia allegations are comparable to my experience. However, obviously I have intense feelings on the subjects of sexual assault, false accusations, using rape as an extortion plot, and victimizing women by convincing them they bear no responsibility for taking care of themselves when they’re drinking or that any unwanted touch by a man is an assault and they are helpless to respond. Throw in the emotions of having my team’s QB as the accused and I’ve become like a little dog chewing on a shoe I can’t seem to release. So I get especially aggravated at the many hypocritical commenters who are simply using this situation as an excuse to rag on the Steelers while pretending a nobler cause.
Forgive me if I unfairly lumped you into that category.

I’ve been to Milledgeville multiple times. It’s everything you would expect… and more! I just don’t see why he was there. There are better golf courses up on in the Lake Oconee area and that’s a very scenic area. Athens is closer and better bar scene. It’s too far to drink and drive back and most of the people that are staying there are residents of the college or one of the prisons.
It certainly doesn’t make him guilty. Although I would say, in Milledgeville, it’s not hard to determine which are the college bars.

If Ben’s not guilty until proven otherwise, why doesn’t she get the same treatment? You can reply and mention all the other comments claiming his guilt, they are equally denying due process, but that doesn’t mean it’s okay to just trash the girl without merit either.

I’m beginning to think that you’re incompetent.
I did report that Ben Roethlisberger’s attorney told us that his client would provide DNA to investigators. I was the first to do so.
I also was the first to report that GBI later called the attorney to tell him that Roethlisberger didn’t need to submit it because there was no genetic material recovered at the crime scene or on the alleged victim.
I’ve also reported that the attorney had been told about a high blood alcohol content allegedly recorded concerning the accuser. This, as I mentioned, was corroborated by two other sources close to the investigation that are independent of Mr Cansino.
How is this unusual? This is the scutwork of reporting, not of bloviating about stories you apparently can’t read, much less write.
The stories are plain on their face. You are the one who has been extrapolating notions that can’t be backed up by basic reporting. I have reached no opinions in this case about the innocence or guilt of any party.
I take the facts as they come, corroborate them with independent sources, and put a name to them. If you want to trash me and my work, that’s cool.
But don’t you have to understand the rudiments of the story, how it is reported or why it matters before you hold forth with opinions of dubious value?

1. Ben Roethlisberger isn’t my hero. Are you 12?
2. The only person who has said the Georgia authorities want to speak to the Nevada accuser is her lawyer. His agenda is to make her seem credible. He also said he would not let her speak to them. If she had been raped and knowing he cannot go to prison in her case, then why wouldn’t she want to assist the Georgia authorities with a case that could result in jail time? If she had been raped, she would want to see him punished more than she would want his money.
3. When her attorney (Calvin Dunlap) announced that they wanted to speak with her, I e-mailed my brother and asked why. He was in the middle of a case, but shot back this brief reply:
“I’m not sure if Georgia’s rules of evidence are based on the federal rules, the model rules or something else all together. But, there are only two reasons they would want to talk to McNulty: (1) to use her testimony against Ben; (2) to see if she can give them anything to support this girl–in other words, they might be questioning the girl’s story and want to see if it matches McNulty’s.
If it is (2), then either, they decide that there is no similarity and that gives them more concern; they decide there is similarity and that confirms their concerns (i.e., both golddiggers); or they decide there is similarity and it confirms this girl’s accusations. If that’s it, then they decide if they want to try to get McNulty to testify which takes us to (1).
If you get to (1), the federal rules specifically allow the introduction of the defendant’s commission of another offense or offenses of a sexual assault to be considered for bearing on any matter to which it is relevant. This is contrary to the rules on all other crimes or acts. And, when combined with the rule that prohibits the introduction of the alleged victim’s relevant acts in these types of cases (which I’m sure Georgia has), create an uneven playing field.”
4. I did not say “hugging on him all night” was “highly sexualized behavior.” Nor was I speaking of the Georgia case at that point. I was speaking in hypotheticals. You might work on your reading comprehension skills–try moving your dripping sarcasm out of the way.
5. This woman’s allegation and version of events has not been released. We do not know what she said or what occurred. You are making it up as you go.
6. Don’t reinterpret me “in other words.” I said EXACTLY what I meant to say and made it perfectly clear. I was talking about rape law in general–something that concerns me as a real rape survivor rather than as a shrieking hypocrite on a blog feigning concern for rape victims as a way to get in digs about a football team.
You are what I thought you were: someone with an agenda who knows nothing about the facts of this case or the Nevada case and is using rape for her own ends. Careful, julie. What goes around, comes around. One day you may get a lesson in what it’s like to face a real attacker.
