Clausen poised to visit Browns, Rams, Bills

Browns coach president Mike Holmgren recently said regarding former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen, “I wish I liked him more.”

Apparently, Holmgren plans to give it a try.

Per a league source, Clausen will make pre-draft visits to the Browns.  We’re told that Clausen also will visit the Rams and the Bills.

Clausen had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his toe, delaying his Pro Day workout to April 9.

It’s unclear where Clausen will fall in the draft.  He’s generally regarded as the No. 2 quarterback, behind Sam Bradford and ahead of Colt McCoy.

How’d that last ND QB work out for Cleveland?

I like the mention of “Coach Holmgren”… suppose it’s only a matter of time.

  4. HellsGrimTyrant says: Mar 26, 2010 2:19 PM

I wouldn’t if I were the Browns. There would just be too much pressure to play him too soon. Clausen, and for that matter ANY QB would benefit tremendously from sitting on the bench and learning how to prepare for the real pro game, not the “pro” game Weiss was pawning off in Notre Dame. It’s easier to sit a guy and let him develop if he’s a 2nd rounder or lower. Also throwing a young QB into a mess just makes more of a mess. Get the O-Line and Defensive problems squared away at least.

Since when is Holmgren the coach? ;)

they are just doing their homework on everyone, doesnt really mean anything

  10. bigtrav425 says: Mar 26, 2010 2:33 PM

NO way Clausen is a 1st round pick. These NFL people must see something i dont, i guess which is why they are in the NFL lol.But id take McCoy over him anyday…The Browns are not goin to draft him they are just keeping everyone guessing

  11. WarrenMoonGOAT says: Mar 26, 2010 2:34 PM

i think everyone but Florio knows Mike Holmgren isn’t the coach of the Browns

  12. Skinsfan2120 says: Mar 26, 2010 2:36 PM

I love how Holmgren puts him down and still is scheduling him for a visit. I hope that he trades up with TB to take him before the Redskins can get him.
Redskins: 1st Pick-Okung if available, or whoever is left over between Suh and McCoy
    2nd Pick-Pouncey or best available o-lineman

  13. dogma1 says: Mar 26, 2010 2:38 PM

Clausen will be a HUGE bust, he has a bad attitude and can be lazy, sounds like JaMarcus.

  14. AllThat says: Mar 26, 2010 2:39 PM

Jimmy C will get pummeled wherever he goes. He is not an NFL caliber QB and neither is Bradford. Both will get injured pretty quickly.

  15. OLDCRACKER says: Mar 26, 2010 2:41 PM

“Hellsgrim” you hit the nail on the head. We still have too many holes to worry about the QB at this point. (Whom would he throw to??)
Delhomme and Wallace are adequate for now.
Holmgren is doing the grunt work that should’ve been done 10 years ago. Couch didn’t have much chance with his face in the turf all of the time.
    Build the foundation first!!!
    Go Big Mike!

Honestly I think he is the best QB in this draft. Incredible arm, great #’s, smart, pro-style offense. He is a little bit of a douche, but I wouldn’t pass on him solely because of his douchbaggery. If that was the case 90% of NFL players would never be drafted.

  17. Hap says: Mar 26, 2010 2:45 PM

It could be worse. At least Washington isnt listed this time.

  18. Joel_mac5 says: Mar 26, 2010 2:59 PM

Clausen = Leaf 2.0. Makes sense he should go to the Browns.

  19. BroncoBourque says: Mar 26, 2010 3:03 PM

The guy put up amazing numbers on a team with a terrible offensive line. He also would have had a lot of team success last season too after leading his team to a lot of potential game winning drives only to have his defense screw it up and have the opposing team come back and score on them late. There wasn’t a single problem with his attitude at ND or off field problems, the only thing close was him getting sucker punched after sticking up for his girlfriend outside a bar.
All this talk of attitude problems is just media fabrication and ND hate. There is no way he falls out of the first round and little chance he falls past the Bills at 9. If he does there will be a lot of teams regretting draft day decision within a few years.

  20. DoctorK says: Mar 26, 2010 3:18 PM

severs, you must be high. This is the “bust” of all QBs in the draft. He looks like the kind of guy that as soon as he gets hit will cry to mama. Then again, he’ll fit in well in Cleveland.

  21. LetsGoPens says: Mar 26, 2010 3:27 PM

I just don’t think they can take another ND QB from a PR perspective. They fans will hate him immediately.
I nominate the Bills for Clausen.

  22. the_hook says: Mar 26, 2010 3:30 PM

Clausen has been underrated for quite some time. Contrary to what some of you wizards may believe, he IS a 1st Round pick, and probably Top 10. Anyone who puts up a 28-4 TD-INT ratio running a Pro Style offense is going to get some attention. He isn’t Brady Quinn.

  23. jackybadass says: Mar 26, 2010 3:42 PM

the brown suck they will never win anything. wake up you brown losers at least you have labron!

Clausen = Leaf 2.0. Makes sense he should go to the Browns.

    Not Rick Mirer?
It’d be even more fitting if he did eventually go #2 overall in the Draft…

  25. mwcarolina says: Mar 26, 2010 3:45 PM

Redskins: 1st Pick-Okung if available, or whoever is left over between Suh and McCoy
the Redskins will NOT take Suh or McCoy, if both are gone, it’s either Clausen or Bradford, then round 2, a tackle, but if they go Okung round one, then round 2 WILL be Colt McCoy or Tim Tebow, you can’t win a super bowl with a quarterback who can’t win by passing 30 times and Campbell can’t win a game passing 30 times, he needs to pass 29 passes or less in games and hand off to his backs to win

  26. severs28 says: Mar 26, 2010 3:51 PM

    DoctorK
I was unaware that personal appearance had any semblance of emulating the talent that a player has. Jimmy Clausen HAS TALENT. Like I said, being a douche should not affect his draft status. Who would you rather have? A 3 yr starter, who has had lingering shoulder problems, and really only played two years (in a spread offense), or a 3 yr starter who with only a bad toe, who played in a pro-style offense, and throws a more accurate deep and shallow ball,

  27. Goldhooka says: Mar 26, 2010 4:22 PM

Jacky: it’s “lebron”. You must be from Pittsburgh; how’s your basketball team doing? Or your baseball team for that matter? Why are the mascotts in pittsburgh a penguin and pirate? Don’t see an ocean or the arctic by that city.

  28. RedRight88 says: Mar 26, 2010 4:32 PM

@jackybadass, I think your mom is calling you for dinner, you are ignorant.
Holmgren is all smoke and mirrors, there is no way he’s drafting this brat. He’ll pick up LeFevour (hopefully) or even Pike in a later round…

Wow, if Clausen ends up with any of those teams, he is going to be in one heck of a pickle.
    Get it? Pickle? Clausen?

  30. Cereal Blogger says: Mar 26, 2010 4:42 PM

I think this guy is going to be terrible….catch the LeFevour baby !

  31. stevincinci says: Mar 26, 2010 4:46 PM

Some team is going to draft Tony Pike and be real happy with what they got. For a lot less money than Claussen or Bradford.

  32. Cincinnasty says: Mar 26, 2010 5:00 PM

Last Notre Dame QB that was any good was Joe Montana… Notre Dame = Overrated !

  33. tobago says: Mar 26, 2010 5:22 PM

If Tebow is there in round 3 the Browns will take him even if they have to move up. If not Tebow Lefevour or Shelton.

  34. GaryClark says: Mar 26, 2010 5:30 PM

Thank GOD! Let this little shtbag go be a punk on someone else’s team…All you draft experts, please stop putting him in the Mock 4 slot. We Skins will not, have not and do not want this little frosty haired bithc

  38. DrK1982 says: Mar 27, 2010 12:10 AM

Everyone whos a Browns fan, just ignore jacky. All he wants is to engage in a pathetic flame war, because he has nothing better to do with his life. Pathetic.

  39. Route36West says: Mar 27, 2010 4:27 AM

Holmgren would be better off to continue not liking him enough.
Clausen just doesnt have it. He will be at best a backup in this league in 3-4 years. Some team will pay him a boatload of money to be a top ten pick and will set their team back for the length of the contract.
We all know if a team drafts a qb in the top ten no matter how bad he is (See Jamarcus Russell) they have to give him every opertunity to succeed. That usaully takes up 3+ years.
Thats exactly what will happen to the team that drafts him. When I watch Clausen play I dont see an NFL qb. He just doesnt have the ability to be a consistant winner. I think teams in the top ten will be better off, once Bradford is off the board, signing the elite lineman in the draft and looking for a qb later in the first round for the teams that have 2 picks or early in the 2nd round.
I dont think Tebow will make it either but I would rather my team (If they were in that position) take a flier on him in the 2nd then on Clausen in the 1st. Tebow is atleast a winner and could possibily do other things if he doesnt make it at qb.
Clausen just isnt the answer. It just sucks for the fans that are going to have watch this guy over the next 3 years steal money from their favorite teams. While guys that they could of had like Bradford, Stafford, Ryan and possibily Sanchez and Tebow succeed.

  40. Denny Royale says: Mar 27, 2010 11:02 AM

It’s a smoke screen designed to build some hype around Claussen in the hope that someone will choose him before the Browns pick at 7. Means one more option for the Browns if he gets picked by someone else.
    Nothing more, nothing less.
Jacky .. you are a pathetic loser.
