I think this is a great move as long as jarod gilbert, mark anderson or isreal Idonije is able to step in and be a consistent contributor. At least this will help improve the o0line, now they can focus on safety and getting other concerns through free agency and the draft.

What’s all this crap about Alex Brown’s leadership? Our D-Line has been awful for 3 straight years & D-End has been bad for alot longer. How did his vaunted leadership skills help improve this steadily worsening Defense? You know what’s overrated? Leadership without production. Who was the last D-End we had that was a double-digit sack/year stud? Exactly. When the best thing you can say about a D-End after 8 freaking seasons is that he’s good against the run, guess what, it’s time for a change.

NO Seattle doesn’t was a 30yrs old DE his good years are behind him, Rob Sims is Athletic but seems to be man handled once ina while.

Seattle DOES not want A. Brown, he is a nice guy and all but we need draft pics. Now Rob Sims isn’t bad he only allowed like 11 QB hurries all season, one thing i never liked about him is he was running his mouth about Shaun alexander when he was a rookie, he just needs to show more respect not alot of RB rush for 10k yards. I will say this Sims is Super Athletic for a big guy.

This would be stupid for Chicago. I agree with a previous poster in that the team added Peppers to give them a great DE combo, now they might trade him to be simply average again. With good pass rush from both sides, the holes in the secondary will be less obvious. Rob Sims is not the long term answer at OG. Why didn’t the Bears go after a guy like Ryan Lilja or Adam Terry when available? They need to improve the line in the draft and free agency without making their pass rush average. If they trade a strength to make a weakness marginally better, then Chicago will continue to be what they’ve been the last three years. Average.

Very durable, solid performer not a pro bowler but consistent 5-6 sacks a year, good second level DE not a premier pass rusher

Good locker room guy and never been in any type of trouble. Plays hard and has a good nose for the football. Very durable and will play through injuries. Decent against the run but probably only a 5-6 sacks a year. In Tribune survey 89% of Bears fans responded that Bears were making a mistake by trading him.

Stealthhawk – Alex Brown is a consummate pro. Never an off the field issue to speak of. If you catch any interviews from the other Bears about him, its nothing but compliments. He doesnt have a particularly amazing skill set, but he’s good. He’s just as good at pass rush as he is run stopping. His best quality is hustle, you will never see him take a play off. If you check his stats, its a pretty solid depiction of what you’d get. If there was a stat for pure heart, however, he’d be tops in the league.
Anyway, I love this trade. I hope it happens. Rob Sims is definitely an upgrade over the Beekman/Omilaye(I don’t know if thats how you spell that correctly I don’t feel like looking it up) left guard disaster. I’d feel much better about Cutler’s chances with Chris Williams at LT, Rob sims at LG, Kreutz at C, Roberto Garza at RG, and Omilaye at RT. That actually sounds like a pretty solid line. With the exception of Garza/Kreutz it’d be a pretty young line and I like the idea of Mike Tice coaching them all.
Is Rob Sims normally a left or right guard?

Alex Brown is a great player and a great team mate! He’s been one of the most consistent players we’ve had in a long time. Will really hate to see him go…he always steps up.

I could imagine a scenario seeing Seattle trading Sims for Brown and then trading a mid-rounder for G Justin Smiley, who is on the trading block in Miami.
Bears get rid of Brown and get something in return.
Seattle gets immediate upgrades at DE and G.
Miami gets a coveted mid-rounder and replaces Smiley with talented but troubled Richie Incognito.

That’s actually not such a bad trade, really. The Bears need more OL and the Hawks could certainly use another pass rusher, so why not pull the trigger on this trade?

This is beyond stupid. You take the most important dynamic of our defense and add Peppers to make it a real force and then trade away Brown to make it a little above average again. The only way I like this is if they lose Brown and gain Otogwe. I hate this! Brown is underrated and a leader in the locker room. you can’t keep losing leaders in the locker room. Somebody needs to wake over in Chicago.

I hate the idea that Alex Brown could be moved. I’m far from sold on Mark Anderson turning the corner. Israel Idonije is a nice 3rd end. After that? Jarron Gilbert is probably a tweener like Idonije (and he may be better suited for the 3-4), and Henry Melton is raw.
That said, if Alex Brown “has” to be moved, then this makes some sense. It addresses the Bears final OL opening, allowing them to move Omiyale to RT, and makes Kevin Shaffer what he should be, a very good backup lineman, along with James Marten, Josh Beekman, and maybe Lance Louis (if the Bears carry 9 OL).
This could free up some money, which might allow the Bears to make a run at a safety. That would be the ideal scenario, making a run at a FA S, allowing them draft flexibility. If not, they could add a FS with the 3rd and focus on depth at CB/S/DL later.
For the Seahawks, this would be a nice move, allowing them more flexibility in the draft. To get a starting end for a guy who doesn’t fit makes a ton of sense, and Pete Carroll clearly wants to compete now. Maybe this allows them to address S and OL in the first. Or maybe WR or a RB gets into the mix. A lot of options.
One does wonder if Pete will lock in on “his” guys from USC and try to add them.
