Joey Porter arrested for DUI, assaulting a police officer

Linebacker Joey Porter, one of the newest additions to the Arizona Cardinals, has become the latest addition to the Bakersfield jail.

Per TMZ, Porter has been popped for assaulting a police officer.

According to the report, a friend of Porter’s was pulled over outside a Taco Bell.  Joey pulled up, and a CHP officer smelled alcohol coming from Porter’s car.

So when the officer asked for Porter’s license, he refused to turn it over, rolling up the window to his vehicle.  The officer then tried to reach in and unlock the door, and Porter slapped the officer’s hand.

The officer grabbed Porter’s arm, who got out of the car in a confrontational manner.

So the officer drew his pistol and ordered Porter onto the ground.  Porter, apparently not fearing bullets after being shot in the ass in Denver, refused to comply.  Eventually, he put his hands behind his head.

Porter was charged with three misdemeanors — DUI, resisting arrest, and assault on a peace officer.

He’s lucky he wasn’t shot, again.

Porter recently signed with the Cardinals, only a few weeks after being cut by the Dolphins.

  1. I could talk mess like everyone does to every Redskins signing, but i’ll just say not a wise move from Porter or most likely the Cardinals.

  2. wow… glad the fins cut him before this or florio would have been killing the fins for having a bunch of thugs and hoodlums despite parcells wishes

  3. He’ll probably get suspended 8 games by Goodell but Big Ben won’t be touched for being a serial rapist. Where is the Justice??

  4. Shades of Steve Foley…at least he didn’t take 3 to the leg and prematurely end his career.

  5. I’m sure somebody is gonna blame Big Ben for this one too. Ben was probably a bad influence on Joey during his days with the Steelers. Joey used to be so quiet and reserved when he was with the Steelers. I’m surprised to hear that he mouthed off to the cops. It’s probably the cops fault because Joey is black.

  6. Smacking the cop’s hand constitutes “assault on a peace officer?” That seems excessive…
That said, Joey Porter is a damned idiot.

  7. Insert “mcdonalds bag” for “police officer” and it sounds *exactly* like what happened to Brandon Marshall.

  8. Hahahhahah! Porter ur such a loudmouth bafoon. U know ur career is going down the drain when the only time ur name gets mentioned in the media is when ur poppin off like a baby stuck in his crib.
Have fun with this guy cards.

  9. Taco bell? Shoot him for that! He must have been on a chalupa run for Jafluffy Russell!

  10. Porter has always had a thug mentality so it’s no surprise. I like how he wears his military fatigues like he’s rambo or something. Hey Joey, stop insulting our men and women in the armed forces. What a loser

  11. I almost bet the Cardinals cut his ass and go after whatever money they have paid him, what a clown!

  12. If he woud have hit and killed the officer with his car the Ravens would be working out a trade for him right now to go with their boy Stallworth.

  13. Cant hang this on the Steelers . Been gone for 3 years now .
JOEYYYYY representen lol . Hello Arizona lol . Keep signing our castoffs lol .

  14. Once again I’m psyched the Jets never thought about getting this ass dumpling. Only took about a week to prove that was a good non-move lol.

  15. Honestly, HOW DO YOU SMELL Alcohol emitting from a car a few feet away??? – given wind conditions and everything else – JUST THINK OF THE SMELL EMITTING FROM TACO BELL ALONE.
what is the POLICE FORCE NOW PART ST. Bernard?
give me a break, the cop wanted to juice someone and he choose PORTER. The Communist cops in this country now can juice anyone of us at anytime time. More power to the socialism transformation of the US

  16. I bet the cardinals are glad they just picked him up. i wonder if he was on his way to the bank to cash his bonus at the time. HAHAHA

  17. Gumbo, you’re a tool. There’s a world of difference between what Roethlisberger is accused of doing, and being a serial rapist.
Hopefully you don’t learn the difference the hard way.

  18. Classic case of a guy who thinks he’s King Shit because he makes a lot of money. Some day he’s going to try his act on the wrong guy and get himself dusted. Jerk.

exactly what I was gonna say… you beat me to it.

  20. Unbelievable!
Well, not the fact that he got arrested, assaulted an officer, or even that he had the stupidity to stick his drunk nose into a police situation that had nothing to do with him.
It IS unbelievable that, for once, a decision is validated immediately.
Show me one instance of Joey being featured in a feel good piece about overcoming adversity and doing the right thing, and I might think he shouldn’t be suspended, but this guy has brought nothing but negative energy to the game since he first showed up at the door.
Make an example out of an “accomplished veteran” and show the younger players that this BS won’t stand no matter how big you think you are and suspend this thug for at least 8 games. If he’s proven guilty, he assaulted a police officer. If the NFL doesn’t make a statement about that, they are condoning it, and have no leg to stand on with the likes of Pacman and Plaxico.

  21. Also, “Porter, apparently not fearing bullets after being shot in the ass in Denver, refused to comply.” Good line there, Florio.

  22. Holy Crap! What an idiot who thinks he can do “No” wrong! Coach tries to pull him out of the game he says No, cop tries to pull him from his car he says No. Man he sounds like a kid getting denied in his favorite toys r’ us aisle!

  23. If I had a nickel for every time something bad happened to this poor guy on his way to his Mensa meetings……..
Oh look, my dog just took a HUGE Joey Porter on the lawn.

  24. Joey, Joey, Joey (she shakes her head). I’m a fan, but good grief.
You just signed a generous new lease on football life. Why were you driving around, at the very least, with an open container of alcohol that a cop could smell through your window? Why would you drive near a cop with your open container? Why would you think inserting yourself and your temper into that situation would help your friend?
If you want a good life after football, Joey, you’re going to have to start thinking before you speak and act.

  25. What a dummy. And who eats taco bell anymore I mean it’s like come on they have like 3 good things on the menu, the rest is hot garbage.

  26. Bird Man above nailed it.
Porter should have kept driving and called his peep later. Like anything one drunk guy says is going to keep the cops from locking up the other drunk guy. He thinks he has an answer for everything. None of us do. Not too bright.
Enough with the Stallworth incident. The guy he hit was jaywalking and may have been hit by anyone, drunk or sober. No one looks both ways anymore and whatever they get, they have coming to them. Try mixing in a crosswalk and staying out of the highway. Morons.
And to the idiots who like to ride bikes against traffic at night while wearing black…don’t worry. It’s likely you’ll be hit by multiple vehicles, killed and not have to be concerned with spending the rest of your life in a chair.
    Oops. Digressed a bit………..

  27. As a Dolphins fan I only have one thing to say…………………. LMFAOWROTFAPMP!!! Good luck in Phoenix!

  28. Wha..? Liberace gay? I never saw that one coming.
Joey Porter getting pinched for DUI and assault on a police officer? I had 24 hours after signing a new contract in the office pool. You slacker Joey.

  29. So glad he’s out of Miami. Most overpaid overrated clown in NFL.
Never forget his chirping before NE game…then ZERO tackles…shut out by a rookie.
Hope we’ve seen and heard last of that idiot.

  30. Ignorant uncivilized savage criminal.
Nice way to make the Union brotherhood look good when you say you deserve all the money you make.
Nice way to make the police want to treat you in a hostile manner. Acting like the stupid criminal thug that you are really makes your new team’s fans proud to call you one of theirs.
Thank you for encouraging the officer to draw his weapon faster on the next guy.
Too bad you didn’t pull your crime in Sheriff Joe’s county. Then you can live in a tent in the hot Arizona sun, wear pink prison clothes while you work the chain gang, and eat baloney sandwiches.
Now Joey stupid Porter, you are facing time in San Quentin. Enjoy it.

    Try to follow this.
    I’ll … even … talk … slow.
    Porter was charged and arrested.
Ben hasn’t been charged or arrested.
    See the differences?
Now study up, there’s gonna be a test later.
    [ /geezus, I have dogs smarter you ]

  32. @gumbo …
A lot of smart people in the world are desperate for the opportunity to educate themselves, to study issues, and to treat those issues with the seriousness they command. But they can’t afford computers.
Then there’s you. A boob with easy access to a keyboard mouthing off on a legal matter you either haven’t bothered to research, don’t care to get right, or think is funny to exploit for football trash talk.
    Where is the justice?

  33. One of the biggest a$$holes in the game… can’t say I am at all surprised. Stay classy, Joey.

  34. “Fonetik says: March 27, 2010 6:25 PM

Think of it as being equal to Tom Brady drawing a roughing the passer penalty because someone got too close to his skirt.

  35. I’m hearing that he just got done eating a “Ruthlessonfurburger” burger and it got him all amped up and horny…the officer got in his way. Porter saw a good lookin woman in his buddy’s car and he felt like the cop was cock-blocking him.

  36. Goodell better suspend him for that one. Now, if Porter had signed with the Niners, Goodell would use this opportunity to take picks away from the team to show he really meant what he said a few years ago. Too bad for Goodell, he’ll probably give Porter a 1 game suspension and call him in to his office…God I hate Goodell.

  37. This proves the Old AZ Cards mgmt is back in charge. Instead of mkaing a bold move to get back in a position to win the superbowl, they just wanted a headline.
The Cards went out and signed Porter to a deal, because he was a name they could get fairly cheaply, which could justify them not resigning doc or rolle. What they could have done is reup one of those fellows, and trade for McNabb. Now they have no LB, no QB and no S. Way to go Biddy. Oh but you did unload Boldin for very little.

Getting into it with a cop is practically honorable compared to murdering people, or ratting out your friends just to save your own ass.

  39. Thank God the phins got rid of this fool, only thing bigger than his mouth is his head. They should of shot him in the ass again!! lool

  40. If he would have raped the officer, ben would have picked him up at the police station and art rooney would have overlooked everything. ….

  41. I’m guessing he never saw Chris Rock’s educational video; “How To Not Get Your Ass Kicked By The Police”

  42. Roger “Pillow Fists” Goodell will suspend him 1 game.
Goodell is a joke when it’s come to punishing players in my opinion. If he doesn’t send a loud, and clear, message to the players about DUI (especially after what Donte Stallworth did (and yes, there was shared negligence on the part of the guy who Stallworth hit as the guy wasn’t at a marked crosswalk)) and not obeying officers, then the commish will only strengthen my belief he isn’t really protecting the shield.
Heck, the NBA is really starting to look like a bunch of saints nowdays.

  43. Yeah this is one of those guys that wants to be a partner of the owners.
The owners would have sent the help to get the taco’s Oh wait maybe they did

  44. I was so surprised to hear this happen, I mean you don’t really hear about…
    Oh wait…it was Joey Porter?
    Nevermind.

  45. Wow look at the “outrage” attitude you guys have with Porter slapping away a cops hand and DUI which is all misdemeanors. Where is that same “outrage” when Rothlisberger committed a FELONY by assaulting a young college student and was not arrested?
However I agree that Porter is a wannabe gangster hothead that needs to be taught a lesson.
Slapping away a cops hand away doesn’t sound like much of an assault though. Yall are acting like he just threw some punches or something. And most of you that are making comments are going to be driving drunk from the bar tonight in fact so why are you being hypocrites about it?

They should treat these idiot players like buyers in the housing market. They need to make an escrow period on NFL contracts so teams arent made to look this foolish.
Its 1 thing to get arrested but to get arrested 2 weeks after signing a contract with a new team is obsurb. A decent man would have atleast waited a month or 2 before making his new bosses look like idiots for hiring him .

  100. Joey probably finally realized he’s be spending the next couple years exiled to AZ and just snapped. You can’t blame him for knowing that he’ll be playing for a loser after playing for winners almost all of his career.

  101. Shouldn’t it be Joe by now? Joey gives the impression that you’re an immature thug. Oh, I get it now.

  102. Maybe Joey can protect Ben Keepinyourholster from gettin butt raped in prison. Once a Shitsburg Squealler always one…

  103. skinsfan…as a Ravens fan I apologize to you and your family for idiots and situations like what you described. What happened to you and your wifes family is completely unacceptable and I hope you did knock him out. If there, I would have helped you.
There is a section in the stadium below my seats that gets a lot of fans from other teams. It seems like we always get the loud mouth idiots that do not realize they are surrounded by many home team fans. While in 11 years I have never been in a fight there, we have had to sit some of these guys down and I can honestly say alot of times the day ends with handshakes.
If you think we are the worst fans, you must have never worn your colors to a Philadelphia-Skins game….
Once again sorry for your experience.

  104. @This Class Sucks: She knows who she is. She’s an ardent Roethlisberger apologist who goes into long, drawn-out lectures.
I don’t need to mention her by name. I believe “GB Packer” has spoken for all of us who have tired of her “being the smartest and most life-experienced person in the room” attitude.
I suppose now she’s going to tell us that she once was a police-brutality victim, and that she knows all the California laws governing such incidents. Oh, boy.

  105. Look at the arrogance of some of the steeler fans. Not surprised there.
I wouldn’t talk much if my favorite team’s qb was up on his second sexual assault charge. That’s not exactly a moral high ground.

  106. Now you know why the Steelers and the Dolphins cut him. They both got tired of his BS. He make Ben look like Einstein . Great signing Wiz have fun dealing with this moron. Would have figured that you knew how much of an ass he was after your years in Pittsburgh. Guess not.

  107. @GBPackers …
Don’t like my posts? Skip them.
And sorry to puncture your wildly overinflated ego, but you don’t speak for PFT … and you weren’t man enough to just speak for yourself. That’s kind of pathetic.

  108. @danlinker …
Ben Roethlisberger has never been charged with sexual assault–or to my knowledge, with any other crime.

  109. @this class sucks …
Don’t waste your time on robhug71. He’s not worth it. When the Roethlisberger story broke, he came onto PFT pretending to be an anti-Ben Steelers fan. But he’s become increasingly childish and belligerent, and it’s impossible to engage him in adult conversation. No better example than his rant about my Joey comment.
After Joey challenged a cop and was arrested at gunpoint, all I did was ask Why, Joey? and tell him to think before he acts. Somehow that was twisted into me throwing him under the bus. That’s idiotic. I’ll never understand the soft spot I have for Porter or why I’ve continued to defend him long after he’s left my team.
On the other hand, I’m not defending Ben the person. I’m defending the principle of not condemning anyone based on unsubstantiated accusations and innuendo. Stats vary, but it’s estimated at least 40 percent of sexual assault accusations are false. Since the evidence suggests Nevada’s accusation is false, I’m skeptical of Georgia’s.
Don’t know why robhug71 is jealous of my experience as a rape survivor and how it informs my thinking on this subject. But I’ll join him in wishing it had happened to him instead.

Ok I hate to burst anyone’s bubble but I doubt anyone is going to be kicking Joey Porter’s ass in jail.
    ————————————————–
What do you about jail jr.? Just because Porter plays football he will be the big dog in the block? LOL Some construction worker doing weekends for a suspended license will be having Porter’s desert at meal time. Stay in school kid,lot to learn yet…..

  112. Man Im so glad that the Redskins didn’t sign him cuz we woulda never heard the end of it man this is just an indication of where the Cardinals are headed back to the cellar of the NFC West this is definitely a bad P.R. move for them call me crazy but they should just cut his ass now and take the loss this guy has no business in the NFL anymore Goodell should suspend his ass for the season and banish him to “Pacman’s” land hahaha oh and BTW DC cops woulda kicked the shit outta him for pulling a stunt like that so in a way he should be glad he didnt sign here have fun with him Cards fans and that loser Matt Leinart to or that loser Derek Anderson whoever they decide to start I dont care how good your WR’s are if nobody can get the ball to them what good does that do

  113. How is this guy still in the league? He was atrocious last year, and even when he was “good” it was all about piling up sack totals, rather than playing actual football.
As a guy who watched a lot of MIA games last year, watching teams constantly run draw plays and screen passes to his side last year was just comical. Not to mention the guy is an awful teammate and an equally awful person.

  114. Joey was lucky that he was in Bakersfield and not Fresno. He would have been shot by Fresno Police for his actions…
    –Jerry Dyer

  115. @VoiceofReason …
Have you played with Joey? If he’s such an awful teammate, why did his teammates in Pittsburgh AND in Miami keep voting him to be a team captain?
Joey has some behavior issues. But he did a lot of positive things for his teammates while he was in Pittsburgh. And since he was voted a captain last year in Miami, a majority of his teammates there must have held him in high regard as well. You may not understand it, but it is what it is.

  116. It must suck to have to clarify that your qb has not yet been “charged” in 2 sexual assault cases.
    Perception is reality.

  117. @danlinker …
It does suck. It also makes me sad that so many PFTers suck at reading comprehension and civics.
Fortunately, the legal system doesn’t operate on the theory that perception is reality.
Humor me, dan. Go over to the “Ravens’ PR man” thread and read my 5:55 p.m. note to Ravenmaniac about perception and reality.

  118. @robhug71 …
If you are a Steelers fan, no wonder so many people are so disgusted with Steelers fans.
For you to talk about anyone else disgracing anything is ridiculous. You are a disgrace of a human being.

  119. Deb….some advice…stop trying to defend ben against everyone that bad mouths him….same with joey…it is mentally exhausting to try and rigorously defend your team against the fans on this site. To me that is what makes it fun and keeps me coming back for more. But I never take it to heart.
Trust me I know, I learned long ago that you can talk until you are blue in the face/make a great point in a post and someone will still blindly trounce it. I have done it many times in the past with Ray Lewis but steeler fans still call him a murderer. He was not found guilty of murder and as many legal pundits on TV said he was obviously charged with murder in order to get to the real person that committed the crime. Trust me unlike you with ben, I was pissed that Ray would put himself into this position and I felt there was no excuse for disgracing the Ravens like this. I still think about it to this date. I have also realized as years passed that this was the only time Ray was in trouble with the law. He did not repeatedly put the Ravens into a bad light.

  120. Sure Arrest Me!!, You know who I’am???
Your not above any Law,because you are a NFL player,Any number of players think that, and they can buy their way out of any situation,But all they are doing is Hindering themselves from being a Roll model,NFL Star,Athlete,Any Street Thug can act like that, and its expected, But to be in a Position in the NFL puts you in a different light,You are looked up to and admired as being a Professional,Case in point; Terrell Owens, nobody wants him because he’s an egotist,No room for that on a TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!,Hence the term” TEAM”

  121. @Ravenmaniac …
How sweet of you to be concerned about me becoming mentally exhausted battling rival fans! My mental constitution is pretty hardy. I am, however, saddened by seemingly intelligent posters who deliberately twist my words. I’ve repeatedly posted disappointment in Ben’s choices, as you well know. In his case, I’m not defending an individual but a principle that I’ve defended in real-life places more precarious than PFT. So I think I can handle it here.
A suggestion: I’ll decide what I want to post about and you decide what you want to post about.

  122. This headline could’ve read:
    ‘Stupid criminal commits stupid crime.’
No article is really even necessary.
Try pulling this crap when you’re out of the league or lose a step. Clink.

  123. Porter’s a bum! He’s all mouth and no substance. He was being benched for Cameron Wake and he cried. What did Porter have this year….42 tackles? you BUM!
    In Shula I Trust

Maybe you all wouldn’t come across as such spit-drooling, nose-picking, booger-gobbling, knuckle-dragging chromosome-deficient mental retards if you hadn’t eaten all those paint chips and lead pencils when you were a kid. Sniffing all that paint thinner while spinning in your mom’s old gas dryer probably didn’t help much either.
    =====================================
That may very well be the funniest, most well crafted comment I’ve ever read on PFT. 5/5

  125. Deb…not surprised at your response…as well as others to you!
Your suggestion sounds good to me…besides I know you are exhausted with all of the defending you have to do with your team….busy weekend for your boys….take care.

  126. @Ravenmaniac …
Not sure what you mean by “others to you.” One person responding to me crossed a line no decent human would. Guess I’m not alone in feeling that way because I see those posts were removed. Santonio and Joey’s cases don’t involve the “Richard Jewell” effect of trial by gossip and innuendo that I’m arguing so passionately against nor do they involve accusations that hit close to home for me. So I don’t have to expend any emotional energy on them. As far as I know, those are the only incidents involving, as you say, “my boys” this weekend. You might have failed to notice that Joey left the Steelers more than three years ago but, sure, I’ll still claim him. Take care.

  127. Deb…your boys as in santonio and ben….
I think there have been more than one repsonding to you on here.
Please know that I found what was said to you by one of the fans on here as completely unacceptable!! While I love going back and forth with you, I would never disrespect you in that manner!
Richard Jewell?? You think ben is in that category??? Richard Jewell was completely exhonorated, ben will never be completely exhonorated.

  128. @Ravenmaniac …
Thank you, I didn’t think you’d condone that kind of behavior.
Of course, I’m comparing it to Richard Jewell, Ravenmaniac. That’s what I’ve been so passionately arguing the whole time!
Yes, Jewell was exonerated. He shouldn’t have had to be exonerated. Given the circumstances, he should have been viewed from the outset as innocent until proved guilty in a court of law. Like Ben’s, his wasn’t a case of domestic dispute with a girlfriend in front of 20 witnesses or shooting himself in the leg with an unregistered weapon.
The entire case against Jewell? A completely unsubstantiated accusation against a man whose lifestyle met with disapproval from the general public. That’s it. But reckless gossip, “where there’s smoke there’s fire” innuendo, and information from off-the-record sources convicted him in the public’s eyes without a charge being filed. And if not for Eric Robert Rudolph, many people would still believe Jewell did it.
As of this moment, the entire case against Roethlisberger? Two completely unsubstantiated accusations against a man whose lifestyle meets with disapproval from the general public. That’s it. But reckless gossip, “where there’s smoke there’s fire” innuendo, information from off-the-record sources, and bad-boy stories from people in Pittsburgh have convicted him in many people’s eyes without a charge being filed. And you’re right. Because of the “he said/she said” nature of the accusations, he will never be completely exonerated.
But what if he’s just as innocent as Richard Jewell? So far there hasn’t been any EVIDENCE presented to suggest otherwise–just a lot of opinions about how and with whom he should spend his time. Think about it.

  129. Deb….1st thanks for making realize that I spell exonerated incorrectly…..
2nd..what I meant by ben not being cleared of all guilt is that even if no charges are brought and everything is dropped, ben is still guilty of putting himself into situations that can result in this kind of issue. He is a grown man not a college freshman….he does not need to be trolling college bars. I cant remember the last time I have heard of any NFL player being in this situation.
Like I have said, I dont want this to be true anymore than you do. I want ben on the field everytime we line up. Otherwise we get the wow..you beat a 2nd string QB or our 2nd string QB almost beat you…..I want ben out there….no excuses for either side.
Wow, I feel like it is closing time in this post and we just got the last call from the bartender…I think you and I have kept this thing going…I am just thankful ben is not here to…..I AM KIDDING….dont get mad at me…

  130. @Ravenmaniac …
Oh hush, I’m not mad at you–I do have a sense of humor 🙂
You know, Ben spent that evening at a Sushi restaurant near his home about 35 minutes from Millegeville. He goes there several times a year and the owner said he always enjoys hosting Ben and his friends. That night, Ben told the restaurant owner he thought they’d drive to Millegeville because he’d never been there. It isn’t just a college town. Other people do live there. I’ve spent time there … staying at the home of one of the local prosecutors LOL.
So Ben drives over, and according to newspaper accounts, kids are running around shouting “Hey, Big Ben’s here,” asking for his autograph, hanging all around him, girls everywhere. He’s turning 28, getting a lil older. But on this night, he’s BMOC. Who wouldn’t love all that attention?
So it’s the first time Ben was ever in the Millegeville college bars. If that woman hadn’t made some kind of allegation (we still don’t know what she says happened), you would never have known he spent an evening there. For all you know, NFL players hang out in college bars all the time. In fact, I’d bet they drink at their college hangouts when they go back for visits.
Just something to think about as you’re heading home for the night. Drive safely.

  131. Thanks, Ravenmaniac. I pay attention to you, too … in fact, I was concentrating on what you were saying and honestly didn’t notice how you spelled “exonerated.” LOL
