We pointed out a week ago that free agent wide receiver Sean Morey, who most recently played in Arizona, had paid a visit to Seattle.
There’s been no firm news on the Morey front since then, but multiple reports suggest that Morey is expected to sign with the Seahawks.
Darren Urban of the Cardinals’ official web site wrote this week that Morey is more likely to end up in Seattle than to stay in Arizona. And Mike Sando of ESPN.com reported today, in a story focusing mostly on whether the Seahawks will keep Deion Branch, that the Seahawks are expected to sign Morey.
Prior to signing with the Cardinals, Morey played for the Patriots, Eagles and Steelers. He’s never been much of a contributor on offense — he has just 11 career receptions — but has always been an excellent special teams player. He was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 2008 season.
Super Bowl!
Morey was a 7th round Pete Caroll draft pick with the Patriots in ’99. Amazingly, he is one of 3 players from that draft class still in the league.
Even more amazingly, you would need to go all the way to the 2003 Patriots draft class to find more players still playing. (5)
Seahawks Super Bowl. Yeah baby!
This guy is a difference maker!
Wow- with this signing, the balance of power shifts decidedly to the Seahawks.
Or not.
I am surprised PFT would waste precious space with a posting that doesn’t involve the NFC east or north, or the AFC north. How is that supposed to generate 100 responses?
Wow I can’t believe Morey is still around. He came out of Brown University and was never expected to make it in the NFL, but has always been an incredibly hard worker and overachiever.
Good for him that he’ll get another chance with the Seahawks.
No one is likely to care.
Sean Morey is everything that is right with the NFL.
If you hear one interview with the dude you will be a fan.
No doubt the Seahawks will have upgraded their special teams if they land him.
Can you say playoffs???
To all those doing so, please discontinue the sarcastic “Super Bowl!” and/or “championship!” comments when teams sign role players or camp bodies. It’s just really not funny or original in any way.
Go Hawks, great signing!
He will probably be better than Branch ever was for the Hawks!!
This is a smart move. Just not enough razzle dazzle for the simpler NFL fans out there.
Judging by the teams he has played for and when he played for them, the Seahawks should look forward to a Superbowl berth soon. EVERY team he has played for either went to the Superbowl while he was there or the year after he left. Interesting.
Cmon he isnt’ great or we aren’t going to make the playoffs, but i must say looks liek Deion Branch is on his way out. AND I HATE Deion branch.
Good signing, Morey is a really good special team guy.
Remember how big a deal Owens was last year? Quite the splash in print and on blogs. Guys like Morey step on to teams and improve them on the field, not the in the blogs
SUPER BOWL ! CHAMPIONSHIP ! YEAH !
Cut Deion Branch !!!!!
Signed,
Tom Brady
You say “Land” Morey like its some kind of coup. I didn’t realize he was attracting the kind of attention that results in a bidding war.
How is this even worthy of it’s own entry?? Sean Morey is a never-was.
I guess were not going to sign anyone to help out the o-line .d-line and secondary? Why do that and improve the team. Just sign Chris Baker, Ruvell Martin and Sean Morey. Trade for a QB that hasn’t thrown a pass and trade Tapp who showed some potential. Just going to love to see how they screw the draft up…ohh they already have by dropping 20 spots in rnd 2.
You might ask Mat McBriar the punter for Dallas. When the Cards last played Dallas in overtime Morey blocked the punt which was recovered for the winning TD. First Blocked punt for a TD in overtime in NFL history. In addition Mcbriar’s foot was broken ending his season.
Don’t underestimate the value of a good Special teams player
