If all those players you called “busts” were in fact just that, why were they apart of a top 10 defense the last two seasons? Why is it that same secondary ranked 8th in the league in passing yards…oh what’s that, they were 7th in ’08 as well?!?!!? As for the signing itself, I wouldn’t have an issue with it if they didn’t already have a guy of the same age and not nearly as talented as Fred Smoot. Granted, Smoot made way too much money hence his release but you can’t tell me you couldn’t get a similar deal done for what Buchanon got. Smoot isn’t the player he used to be but he’s still better, more versatile than Buchanon and a fan favorite at FedEx. Smoot has played some safety and is a gritty player who doesn’t mind mixing it up both vocally and physically on the field. What about Buchanon? The only thing we know about this guy is that he was NEVER the player he was supposed to be, not to mention the Lions and Bucs dumped him. Hopefully, Justin Tryon and Kevin Barnes outplay him and bury him on the depth chart.

LANDRY – jury still out – he was picked in 06, but I would lean that way too, esp. considering his draft status.

Uh, not quite. Landry was drafted to play strong safety, but due to the death of Sean Taylor he was forced out of position. Still to early to say he’s a bust. Smoot was a second rounder not a first and had trouble in Minnesota, but was a good Redskin. Meangelo went to two pro bowls in his first few years. That’s hardly a bust. Buchanon may have been a Raiders bust but is a cheap gap fill for the Skins. I do agree with you on Rodgers though. That guy couldn’t catch a cold.

Hall was a probowl corner and has had some downs recently but is still very young. Carlos Rogers is a good man corner but has trouble with zone coverage as well as he has stone hands. Landry’s first two seasons were by all means good but then last year he either regressed or was setup with failure by the coaching staff and I don’t think it is hard to believe that he could make his way to being a good safety.
There is plenty of talent in the redskins secondary when you consider the two starting corners and a starting safety were all drafted in the top 10 and all are 28 or younger.

Landry- 90 tackles 1 sack 2 forced fumbles 1 int 6 pass def all while playing out of position.
Hall allowed 1 td last season had 4 ints this year 7 since hes been on the Redskins.
