Rash of no-shows for 49ers workouts

As the 49ers launch the on-field portion of their offseason workouts, the good news is that guard David Baas, a restricted free agent who has not signed his RFA tender, is participating, according to Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

The bad news?  Five recognizable names weren’t there.

Per David White of the San Francisco Chronicle, cornerback Nate Clements, linebacker Manny Lawson, nose tackle Aubrayo
Franklin, running back Michael Robinson, and cornerback Shawntae Spencer are not present.

If coach Mike Singletary weren’t on the road playing G.M. with Trent Baalke, he’d probably be pretty pissed.

    5 guys = a rash?
The fact that 4 of the 5 are defensive players and the one offensive player is a back up tells me that these early workouts are structured for the offensive side of the ball and that there isn’t much reason for all of the defense to show up.

They’ll run them hard and fast and burn them out…just like last year.
    …bet on it.

All Veterans no big deal. @GoBrowns19 big words coming from the smegma of the NFL.

  5. tre_fizzle says: Mar 29, 2010 3:33 PM

meh, Singletary has always said he trusts his veterans and this is, after all, voluntary workouts.

  6. tre_fizzle says: Mar 29, 2010 3:37 PM

and Sing isn’t playing GM with Baalke. Sing is doing character interviews and getting “the rest of the story” from the guys that the scouts/GM/Personnel guys have identified as “talented”. Now Singletary is deciding if he wants these guys characters on his team…or if he can deal with them, whip them into shape, etc. like Vernon Davis, Dashon Goldson, etc.

GoBrowns19 – Congrats on breaking through the mental/comedic barrier to be one of the first to make the connection that San Francisco = gay. Groundbreaking stuff from you.

  16. Merton Hanks says: Mar 29, 2010 4:01 PM

AZ Red Bird – I’d be hoping and praying for that to happen too if my favorite team underwent a mass exodus that the Cardinals saw this offseason, and our biggest FA signing was just arrested for DUI and resisting arrest.

Does five people really qualify for a “rash”? Certainly qualifies for media shenanigans.

  18. Dogsweat says: Mar 29, 2010 4:11 PM

It appears the Mike Singletary Tyranny is coming to an end.
    Please 49ers keep him.
The old school nonsense doesn’t work anymore Mike.
    lol
    Cowboys are your Masters

GoBrowns19, how about you stick to you gay ass team.. don’t even know why they brought them back, they shouldve stayed out of the nfl.. they just make things easier for teams in that division. This is what pitt, bal and cincy see when they see the browns in their schedule. ” oh fasho!! there’s a WIN right there!!” sorry ass looser!!! soon enough you’ll be looking up to the Lions.. pathetic!!

  20. woodsidegil says: Mar 29, 2010 4:37 PM

GoBrowns19….while you were at your computer typing your ground breaking story about the five missing 49er players they were gang banging your mother.

  21. Atlanta Love says: Mar 29, 2010 4:59 PM

Veterans not showing up? Who cares? It’s too early to be talking about no shows.

  22. NinerNation says: Mar 29, 2010 4:59 PM

This OTA session is for the new OL coach to take a look at what he’ll be working with, and to get his opinion on which positions he’d like replaced in the draft. This isn’t a big deal.

  23. this class sucks says: Mar 29, 2010 5:22 PM

Simmer down. Nate and Franklin can do what ever they want. Manny Lawson is one of the best athletes on the team, and no one cares about Spencer or Robinson.

  24. crabman82 says: Mar 29, 2010 6:18 PM

they can have 43 players not show up as long as crabtree is one of the players there catching passes from the qb’s

  25. 49erFaithful says: Mar 29, 2010 6:29 PM

Are you kidding me with this stuff?
Franklin is not under contract and is (obviously) not risking injury when he still has the chance to sign a sweet FA deal/new contract…
    Clements has PNUEMONIA.
Nobody cares about the SPECIAL TEAMER Robinson…
That leaves us with Spencer and Lawson… Hardly a “rash,” more like a “pimple.”

  26. jackybadass says: Mar 29, 2010 6:51 PM

the 49ers are on thr way up brown noser! your team will have another great pick next year too! coach singletary is a great coach but the front office is weak.he has little chance.

  27. TheInconvenientTruth says: Mar 29, 2010 10:31 PM
