Bryant will dine with Jerry Jones Wednesday night

D. Bryant.jpgWith Sam Bradford out of the way, Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant is next on the big name pro day stage Tuesday.

(We wonder if he will have the best workout since Michael Irvin.)

Bryant will work out in Lufkin, Texas, but his big week doesn’t end there.  He will dine with Jerry Jones Wednesday night, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The big-bodied receiver reportedly ran a 4.32 last week, and should wow the scouts.

Here’s our prediction: Jones won’t come close to getting a chance to draft Bryant unless he trades up.  We don’t have any great inside information on this one, but logic says Bryant won’t fall nearly as far as mock drafters think.

There are questions about Bryant off the field, but nothing truly devastating has stuck to him. He’s the most talented receiver to come out since Calvin Johnson and we just don’t buy that his “red flags” will knock him out of the top-15.

Plenty of questionable receivers have been drafted in the top ten that weren’t nearly as talented as Bryant.  A 4.32 is fast enough for the Raiders, right?

Dolphins will draft Bryant and then trade him to Dallas for Miles Austin.

The big story here though is whether he’ll have steak or chicken. Must be a slow nfl news day.

I believe Deion will be there also………..

Drafting a WR so freaking high is such a crap shoot.

I don’t seeh how this is a fit. Bryant will be a top 15 pick and the cowboys are stuck in the 20′s. Also the cowboys are stuck with roy williams for this year. Patrick crayton is a good 3rd wr so i don’t see how anything can come of this.

Maybe the can invite Pacman and go to a scrip club.

Wow. The most talented receiver since Calvin Johnson. Could I be more amazed?
I’m sorry – remind me – who the hell is Calvin Johnson?
Rosenthal – weren’t you the same dumba$$ who was ragging on Crabtree all last year? A guy who produced in 11 games what Johnson produced in 15 games as a rookie? On a run-oriented team, as opposed to Johnson on a pass-happy squad?
Shouldn’t you really be saying “The most talented receiver since Michael Crabtree”? Of course not. That would be to admit how wrong you were – never gonna happen.

Pretty funny Mr. Rosenthal…HOWEVER since there is a good chance both the #1 and #2 DT &OT prospects (the Raiders BIGGEST holes) might be gone by #8…Why not take take Bryant and try and add a DT or OT in round 2?
Javon Walker is gone, Chad Schilens was injured most of last year and DHB didn’t make much of an impact (as MANY have pointed out).
Louis Murphy had a solid rookie year, but he is just one WR (AND TE Zack Miller had TWICE as many receptions as Murphy).
Dez Bryant is big, fast, and a good special teams returner (something the Raiders were HORRIBLE at last year).
With the QB situation a MESS in Oakland, why not give whoever wins the QB job (Gratkowski, Russell, McNabb, Rosenfelds, etc, etc.) a legit #1 WR (which by the way DHB will probably NEVER be)?
Just because the Raiders selected DHB last year, don’t put it past Al Davis to take ANOTHER WR (especially one with Bryant’s athletic ablities).
Would rather the Raiders to trade down and add more picks (especially with the 2011 #1 already in the Pats possession), but could live with Bryant in Silver and Black.

  15. adammwilson77 says: Mar 30, 2010 11:06 AM

btw Michael Crabtree was better than Dez Bryant. Just saying. A.J. Green will be the most talented WR since Calvin Johnson next year.

Dez Bryant is gonna be the steal of the draft if he drops out of the top 15… I know the G-men are thinking D-D-D, but if McClain is gone, how could they let Dez get by them? Teams should always draft Best Player Available.

You’re an idiot… You and about a million other people on here complain with the same gay ass lil remark. “EH must be a slow day AY FLORIO!” – Give me a break, that’s what makes PFT great, they report ALL NFL news, if you don’t like it goto ESPN or at least come up with something original to say.

Why would the Raiders want more picks? So they can keep screwing them up? Trade your pics for proven players. At least you’d have something to show for it at the end of the day.

Are you mentally ill? Calvin Johnson > Crabtree. Now and in the future.

Jerry Jones still can’t help himself. He still hasn’t learned anything from letting T.O. and Pacman Jones go. I realize that Roy Williams was a complete waste of a trade for the Cowboys (Jones just doesn’t want to admit it yet), but don’t they need oline more. Plus Bryant has T.O. the second written all over him. Apparently Jones thought that last year didn’t have enough drama for the Cowboys. Bryant also hangs out with Pacman Jones another player the Cowboys let go.

You all need to go back and watch the OSU vs. UGA tape from this past season. Dez Bryant won’t WOW you that much after you watch that game.
Dude is OK, red flags aside. And really what red flags? That he’s in w/ Deion who was acting as a sub-agent. What other red flags are there? Seriously? That he lied to try to save his skin. Sort of like the entire MLB on steroids or Kobe and Tiger on infidelity or the entire Cowboys in the 90′s on drugs. Everyone lies. So what red flags are there w/ this kid b/c I don’t ever remember him getting into any trouble at Ok. St. outside of the “Prime Time” fiasco.

I’m sure Florio will have a full report on the menu… Anjelmanning… this is what makes PFT closer to a sewing bee then a newspaper. Its also what is killing the game we love, bringing it on the level of reality tv instead of sport.
All we ask is Florio reports fact. Commentary is fine, but it has made what he reports as “information from a league source” to be anything less then credible when it is peppered with his own feelings and viewpoints.

  32. Dolfan34 says: Mar 30, 2010 11:43 AM

I see a trade with the Dolphins where the teams switch picks and the Dolphins get an extra pick or two. It would be ideal. Bryant gets to stay a Cowboy and Parcells gets the extra picks he craves. Maybe he’s able to use one of those picks on D. Thomas.
Btw, Michael is a better receiver than Bryant and will probably be a better pro.

  33. ebr362 says: Mar 30, 2010 11:55 AM

I hope the Dolphins trade down with the cowboys for Austin and their first round pick, hey I can hope right?

  34. Big Tex says: Mar 30, 2010 11:56 AM

The “red flags” around Bryant are numerous. The guy was born to a 15 year old single mother who had 3 kids by the time she was 18. He lived in multiple homes. His mom ended up doing time for drugs. Don’t know how many people could come from that background and make sound and mature decisions should they suddenly be handed a boatload of money at a very young age. I think this is Jerry covering his bases should Bryant fall farther than expected.

Agree with you somewhat Big Tex…But it really doesn’t sound any more risky that what was said about Randy Moss before the 1998 Draft.
Not sure Jerry Jones ever forgave himself for not drafting him (although Greg Ellis was a solid player for a lot of years for Dallas). I still remember that Thankgiving Day Game in his rookie year when Moss massacred Dallas.
Doubt Bryant will fall that far, but Jerry probably wants to know more about Bryant JUST IN CASE.

  38. FireJerryJones says: Mar 30, 2010 12:33 PM

Hopefully he turns into Percy Harvin.

Dez, if you’re a wine drinker, bring your own bottle. Jerry always seems to weasel his way out of buying.
