Cowboys say they haven’t shopped Barber

The Cowboys would like you to know they haven’t shopped running back Marion Barber around the league. Just in case you were curious. They haven’t even discussed dealing him.

This news comes courtesy of Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas via team sources that undoubtedly would like to dampen speculation about the Pro Bowl running back.

This report, seemingly protesting too much, may have the opposite effect.

We watched Jason La Canfora of NFL Network’s report about Barber Monday. He was careful not to say the Cowboys were shopping Barber, just that executives around the league believe Barber could be available.

That’s hardly a stunner. Barber is set to make $7.8 million in 2010 and has two cheap, excellent young teammates at running back.

With those circumstances, it would be surprising if Barber wasn’t available -- whether the Cowboys have shopped him or not.
