Browns comment on Rogers arrest

In case it wasn’t already clear, Browns defensive tackle Shaun Rogers’ arrest on gun possession charges wasn’t a prank.

“We are aware of what transpired with Shaun Rogers,” Browns President Mike Holmgren said in a statement.  “We will continue to
gather additional information, and until the legal process has taken its
course, we will reserve any further comment.”

According to Cleveland police, Rogers was found with a loaded 45 caliber handgun that was in his carry-on luggage.  No charges have been filed yet.

Guess you can forget about any trade offers coming for Rogers now.

I would have loved to have been in Holmgren’s office when he was advised of this.
I can just see the muscles tensing & the veins popping in his face as he listens to the news. His eyes slowly disappearing in swelling quickly reddening flesh.
He probably cleared the top of his desk with one swipe.
Oh to be a GM/President/Head Coach in the NFL, it’s just a laugh a minute.

I am pretty sure it was not his first time on a plane or anything.. Did he forget he had a loaded gun in his bag? I am confused no NFL player should be that dumb.. Oh my bad some are just that dumb.

“Why does this massive man carry a gun? His size, if used properly, can intimidate almost any man.”
This was my first thought as well. I mean, as big as he is, even if someone tried to stick him up, the guy would have to have at least a 120mm tank gun to put him down with the first shot. Anything less is just gonna make him angry… or hungry. And you don’t want to be around an angry… or hungry… Shaun Rogers.

When was the last time there was a story about an athlete getting assaulted/robbed in public?
The thefts only happen in the athletes homes (IE Donte Whitner, Sean Taylor RIP), where it’s actually legal to keep a firearm.

  22. TryTheVeal says: Apr 1, 2010 7:39 PM

Time to start throwing the book at these idiots. What situations do they expect to find themselves in?
BREAKING NEWS…A hostage crisis with possibly deadly consequences was avoided earlier today if not for the quick thinking of an armed [insert athlete’s name here] who saved a school bus full of orphans and nuns from a madman. Film at eleven…

  24. HarrisonHits says: Apr 1, 2010 7:44 PM

  25. Byrd Is The Word says: Apr 1, 2010 7:47 PM

To answer my own question…Richard Collier. However, it’s still quite rare an athlete actually needs to carry a firearm.

  30. trickbunny says: Apr 1, 2010 8:07 PM

I hope he gets suspended or dealt. Our D-line was far superior once Ahtyba Rubin took Rogers’ place. I’d much rather see Rubin play. The only thing Rogers is good for is blocking an occasional kick.

Wow, I had a pair of tweezers confiscated, and he thinks he can get a .45 on a plane? He forgot? Why even carry it in a carry-on, unless he had it there from his last trip on a chartered plane, like on a game trip. NFL better start screening them before they get on the plane or a poker disagreement could escalate……..

  34. Obami The Clown says: Apr 1, 2010 8:38 PM

Wow the players in this league are a disgrace…I can’t take this anymore hearing about how players are ruining the reputation of this great sport….and I mean honestly a loaded “45 caliber handgun that was in his carry-on luggage” how smart are you????….for players with such a great college education(sarcastic) they sure define how dumb you have to be to make millions of dollars and be set for life just to ruin what you got with a incident that only takes common sense.

In Rogers’ defense, I’m sure if anyone had taken the time to inform him that carrying a loaded concealable weapon onto a plane was illegal, he surely wouldn’t have done so.

You can’t possibly be serious with this comment, can you. You are being sarcastic, aren’t you.
If not, and you’re serious, you are truly misguided. Shaun Rogers is an adult, college educated (?), and is responsible for thinking and acting on his own. It is his responsibility as an American adult citizen to be aware of the laws of the country he resides in. He’s a multi-millionaire who has multiple resources at his command to educate himself in numerous ways.
If he is unaware of the laws of the country he is a citizen of and resides in and is convicted of breaking a law, the authorities should throw his fat ass in jail, or whatever remedy is necessary, to make him aware of how fortunate he is to be in the situation he is in to make millions of $ with the IQ of a squirrel.
Society’s fault, an indictment of America, perhaps it is, since this fat *uck makes more per year than 20 school teachers who actually make a contribution to society, but that is no excuse for him not to know the law.
To suggest that “if anyone had taken the time to advise him” is to just enable his unwillingness to take responsibility for his own actions.
Donte Stallworth acknowledged and took responsibility for his part in killing a man behind the wheel of an auto, Rogers needs to accept responsibility for his actions in this situation.
Hopefully he will do the right thing and will.

It appears Shaun has made what seems to be a reasonable choice in firearms for him. A man of his hand size and stature certainly can handle a .45. It wouldn’t be fitting for him to have one of those pussified .380s or 9mms. I suppose a .50 would be seen as ostentatious and a Desert Eagle would be hard to carry concealed, even on Shaun’s large frame.
