Giants sign Grant, withdraw tender from Brown

The New York Giants have made a couple of moves regarding a couple of free agent safeties.

Unrestricted free agent safety Deon Grant, who played the last three years in Seattle, signed with the Giants today. In related news, the Giants withdrew their tender from restricted free agent safety C.C. Brown.

In the last nine years (three with the Seahawks, three with the Jaguars and three with the Panthers), Grant has never missed a game and has made 144 consecutive starts. The Seahawks cut Grant last month, and in New York he’ll join a secondary that has already added Antrel Rolle this offseason and provide some insurance in case Kenny Phillips’ knee is slow to heal.

Brown played in all 16 games last season for the Giants, starting seven. He became a starter after Phillips got hurt but was demoted after a bad game against the Eagles.

good deal. hopefully Rolle and Grant don’t end up being huge busts like just about every other free agent safety the Giants have signed in the last few years.

Hahahahaha, so they finally got rid of CC Brown (I am pretty sure the CC stands for Cant Cover)

    Good move Gmen.

Who cares….Giants aren’t going anywhere this year anyway. Even when they win they’re the most boring team in the league.
Eli is the most overrated QB in the NFL and their defense has more holes to fill than Annabelle Chang.
With that said..all 3 Giant fans that aren’t connected to a respirator will say otherwise.

Well they’re certainly determined to fix that secondary….. They’ll probably draft a corner with a high pick again too. Deon Grant isn’t a huge pickup, but when you already have that Kenny Phillips kid and signed Antrel Rolle to an obscene contract…….

    GREAT SIGNING BIG BLUE!!!
    a quality safety/cb.
the guy is nice but seattle would owed him too much so they released him.
now we have insurance for kenny phillips in case he isnt ready week 1 AND god forbid someone gets injured no …more michael ‘two hand touch’ johnson or cc brown or aaron rouse.
there is a god and he is a giants fan!!!

Thank you Jerry Reese for getting rid of Can’t Cover Brown.

Good move by the Giants. He is a good veteran pick up unlike C.C Brown. With the exception of Deon Grants rookie season he has started all every game in his career. Now all they need is a LB help and they should be good on defense.

  9. Jaydub says: Apr 1, 2010 3:55 PM

I never understood how they could have tendered Brown in the first place. The guy was quite literally one of the worst football players I’ve ever seen.

Sign a scrub and cut a scrub…look out G-girl fans…you’re on the rebuilding path. Now all you need is a qb who isn’t a crybaby bitch.

Knowing Deon from his time in J-ville, I know he’s a solid safety. Best of luck with the Giants.

Try to forget the Jets when you see them on hard knocks all summer, when they open the stadium on national TV monday night in the preseason, when they open thier regular season on monday night football to a natonal audience..thanksgiving to a national TV audience, and then the playoffs. great offseason by the giants by the way.
Im still waiting for them to adress thier linebacking and backfield concerns.
most of you yahoos were the ones who said sanchez was going to be a bust, Ryan was going to eat his words, they wouldnt beat the patriots they wouldnt make the playoffs and last but not least they wouldnt win a playoff game…oh and they wouldnt be able to improve the team with thier final 4 restrictions. I remeber someone on this site saying that belicheck lost the Baltimore game on purpose because he didnt want to be restricted in an uncapped year. comedy.
Dont just tell me the jets will suck yell me why make a football point..maybe you will learn something in the process.
you all talk talk and try to be funny.. Good luck this season Gmen..by the way the real question isnt who opens the stadium ..its who gets the first win…and who gets the first home conference championship game.
Dont worry..its just football everything is cyclical..the jets will suck again in the future its inevitable ( like the Giants, and steelers do now) but Its going to be a fun decade to be in green and white

    hey 123456,
Thats why we are one of the most followed franchises in the NFL right? MORON, get your facts straight. Probably a bitter Redskin fan, whats wrong Dan aint spending money this year? Why dont you just stick to commenting on your own teams updates

So says the moron Jet fan whose team runs a “ground and pound” (yaaaaaaaaawn) offense and has a QB that throws 12 times a game. Obviously you know exciting football as a Jet fan LOL. Maybe they can expand Sanchez’s color chart this year?

  23. Krow says: Apr 1, 2010 6:50 PM

Seriously… all the success the Giants have had… and never once rubbed the Jets’ noses in it. One year the Jets do better… and now it’s bullsheet 24/7.
You guys have absolutely no class. None at all.

    Amen Brother! Amen!
Funny thing about that statement was that the dummy jets fan was talking about his own team and was purely trying to push it on another team to throw off the scent from his own – ‘boring even when they win’! Ha – the irony.
DUDE you lost to the jags at home – the fins….twice – and to buffalo! The thing about you’re defense is its efficient….thats all. Good shut down corner – good schemes and blitzes. No dominant pass rushers.
I LOVE THOSE TYPES OF SMASH MOUTH DEFENSES – see 85 bears – late 80′s/early giants – 01 ravens – the U! Those defenses lived up to the hype!
Good scheme! Decent execution = Jets defence
In lehmanns, terms me and my mother could be inserted into the lineup and do a pretty decent job!
Thats why you have a bunch of no named guys in you’re front seven! Not one named to the Pro Bowl by the way…HA not even as alternates.
You’re one only outstanding player is Revis hence why he was the only Jets D player to go to the Pro Bowl!
but if you take a look at those 85 bears, those bad ass giants and those 01 ravens D’s. you’d see a ton of marquee names and pro bowlers, hall of famers, et cetera.
Oh by the way – one way or another – our Giants score a boat load points – one thing you know when you go to GIANTS!!!! stadium is you’ll more than likely see 30 points for the home team averaging 25 points or so. If thats boring I need to go watch the Jets play accompanied by the sounds of the monotone dross of Dick Engberg. Even Gus Johnson’s sounds couldn’t liven up you’re putrid 9-7 nail biters and 13-3 stat busters!

You’re giving the trailer trash too much credit. THEY didn’t do better than the Giants, Indy GAVE them a free pass into the playoffs. If Indy didn’t throw that game, no playoffs for the scrubs in green and white. Use their stupidity to your advantage. I actually got three Jest fans to bet me straight up, no points, on the re-match against Indy in the playoffs. They all insisted the Jets would win. Nothing more fun than taking a paycheck away from the idiots because every year they think they have the best team in the League. Easiest money you’ll ever make. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life – UNLESS you’re a Jets fan. Then it’s required.
