Rich Eisen punks Shawne Merriman

Though most NFL-related April Fool’s Day gags fell flat this year, NFL Network and Rich Eisen pulled out the perfect prank on Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman.

We could explain the thing in detail, or we could simply give you the link to the video on NFL.com.

Our official position is that you’ll enjoy it more by watching the video.  Our unofficial position is that we’re too lazy to explain it.

  1. You can almost see the ‘roid rage bubblin’ to a boil..and then they give him the release. I’m thinkin’ if I’m the boom mic guy on set I’m feelin’ pretty nervous….he said ALL people on set are gonna get it and I think Merrimen is just ego driven enuff to see that to fruition.
GREAT work Rich Eisen…I love you even more. Made my day!

  2. that was actually entertaining…you could see his restraint from cursing out the league and the head office since he was on camera hahahaha

  3. That was awesome. I thought he was going to roid rage and rip the paper apart and then Rich Eisen!

  4. Great Video – I actually gained some respect for Merriman…he took the joke well and seemed to have a good sense of humor.

  5. Hopefully someone will explain it in the comments…the NFL’s website is rarely worth a click.

  6. Even if it was true it really wouldn’t affect Merriman. He hardly ever gets to the QB anymore.

  7. He really is pretty dumb! Like fine others for doing my dance,ye right.
I was waiting for the ‘roids to assist him make some dumb remark.

  8. now that was worth watching…i was pleasantly surprised by merriman’s professionalism…even those he kinda dissed my pats.

  9. HAHAHAHA HILARIOUS!!
Good to see! Great sense of humor!
One thing I noticed though he was much more worried about the fine then the 15 yard penalty or suspension…

  10. took it like a champ??.. he whined like a little bitch that the Patriots did his sack dance after the playoff game… No steroids for Merriman =’s no sack dances plain and simple…

  11. I like his logic that he shouldn’t get fined for what he does, but the Patriots should because when they do it it’s unsportsmanlike.

  12. Rich Eisen is like a stop sign on a highway. Just doesn’t belong. The guy is terrible at his job.

Its called taunting. Its a penalty. His is borderline penalty as it is but when someone directs a dance at someone else, it is considered taunting. Also team celebrations are prohibited.

  14. Does he say shit at 1:38?
Mike now that would be a funny post noting that the NFL posted a dirty word if he is saying the s h word.

  15. vegasman: why do u think he is dumb?? because u r a dishwasher on the vegas strip and he is makin 4 million a year?? ha ha. keep BUSTIN DEM SUDS BUDDY!!lol bust them suds.

  16. It takes a special kind of player to be a Charger nowadays.
If you can bitch and cry with the best of them, you have a job.

  17. Nothing says “This is bulls**t!” like tossing your colleagues under the bus. Patriot hating much man? HA!

  18. If they had included in that news release that players will be fined “retroactively” or all of last year’s infractions of this rule… that would have made for a much better punking. I bet he would have been on the phone to his agent in 2 seconds flat.

    Good job rich
But mr roid has not sacked anyone but the little girl in a long time

Funny how you refer to crybaby Eli as a little girl lil blue. Merriman sacked your QB twice in the win at the meadowlands last year. But then facts aren’t your strong suit.

  21. OK.
    Can Merriman now punk quarterbacks???
I love how 25-year old washups are invited to NFL Total Access.

“I like his logic that he shouldn’t get fined for what he does, but the Patriots should because when they do it it’s unsportsmanlike.”
I was confused by that logic, too, but I he later tried to clarify by saying that the Patriots did it “as a team”. So, the individual dances are supposed to be ok, but the group ones aren’t. Meh. Maybe during the game, but the Pats example happened afterwards.
I think the origins for that disctinction go back to the Redskins Fun Bunch:
