Flozell Adams and Ken Hamlin to be released Friday

Flozell the Hotel is closing in Dallas.

Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Cowboys will release the five-time Pro Bowl tackle Friday.  Safety Ken Hamlin will also be released, according to Hamlin’s Twitter account

Jerry Jones has plenty of money, but he’s making smart cost-cutting moves here.  Adams was not worth $7.5 million this season, especially with a good young option like Doug Free on the team.

Hamlin wasn’t worth half of his scheduled $5.596 million.  The safety made the Pro Bowl in 2007, but has been a huge disappointment since signing a big contract after that season.  His missed tackles and poor angles led to a ton of long touchdowns against the Cowboys.

Hamlin will make $1.09 million from Dallas because part of his salary was guaranteed.

The Cowboys have the money to make some expensive mistakes, but they are smart here to cut their losses.  Roy Williams should take note.

Steelers- Hamlin could remove any feeling of need at the position before draft day and allow the middle round picks to be used on other posistions of need…….

Detroit will bring both of them in for a look.

this is where vox veritas stops defending flozell adams left and right and defens jerry jones for cutting him because he works for the cowboys organization.

  13. Pantherfan10 says: Apr 2, 2010 1:09 PM

Wonder if this means Dallas looking to pickup free agents? Aren’t they one of those teams that has to lose players to pickup free agents?

  14. wryly1 says: Apr 2, 2010 1:10 PM

Sensabaugh isn’t any great shakes either – as we say in the Playoffs. ‘Boys need help at Safety.

  15. FinFan says: Apr 2, 2010 1:12 PM

Miami needs offensive line help and safety help. I can see these guys being brought into Miami.

I wonder if the Cowboys are gonna draft Roy Williams 2.0 with Taylor Mays now that they cut Hamlin. Man I hope so. That will give me a good laugh. The Flozell move, though it’s the right one, is kinda shocking.

  20. cowboys1 says: Apr 2, 2010 1:17 PM

yeah steelers take hamlin, hes great, thats why he’s being released

Id like to see The Packers bring Hamlin in

  24. wwwmattcom says: Apr 2, 2010 1:27 PM

Flozell could possibly land in Buffalo. Chan drafted the guy. If he lands in buffalo the Bills take can focus on other glaring needs.

  25. raiders177 says: Apr 2, 2010 1:27 PM

False starts and dirty? This has my Raiders all over it.

  26. MiamiMan says: Apr 2, 2010 1:28 PM

Hey Parcells!!! Here is another chance for you to sign an under performing Safety for HUGE $!!! Put down the Dove Bar and pick up the telephone!

  27. mwcarolina says: Apr 2, 2010 1:36 PM

i wonder if Adams will be a Redskin??? i think they should “look” at him, but if they sign him, do a short term deal.

  28. Krow says: Apr 2, 2010 1:36 PM

Flozell to the Eagles… write it down.

  29. edgy1957 says: Apr 2, 2010 1:37 PM

I expect that someone will sign him but he really needs to go back to guard. I’m not sure that Free is the answer because I think he really worked much better at RT and I know that Mark’s fans won’t agree but he was better.

  30. ShootahCowboy says: Apr 2, 2010 1:45 PM

Flozell and elite O-lineman? What are you smoking?
He’s slow to get out of his stance, commits way to many penalties, and gets beaten constantly.
    See ya Flo.
    Love always,
    A Cowboys fan

  31. prophet of the light says: Apr 2, 2010 1:47 PM

Flozell Adams sucks anyways. He’s been a heavily over-rated LT for a while. I’d say the worst LT in the NFL honestly.

  36. Playoffs?! says: Apr 2, 2010 1:58 PM

Glad they got rid of Hamlin. As soon as he signed the big contract in 2008, his play declined significantly…definitely need to address Safety in the draft

  37. DoctorK says: Apr 2, 2010 2:00 PM

Stillerz has it right. Hamlin is better than most of the Steelers secondary. He’d be a great addition.

LIONPRIDE: Flozell Adams is older and worse than Backus. Maybe he could improve facing slower guys on the right side though?

  40. danielcp0303 says: Apr 2, 2010 2:24 PM

I love how the guys we cut, are always starters on other teams. So much depth in Big D

  42. RavensFreak00 says: Apr 2, 2010 2:40 PM

I hope Dallas trades for Gaither and gives us their first rd. pick. I could see that happening.

  43. Juggernaut says: Apr 2, 2010 2:41 PM

So whoever compared Taylor Mays to Roy Williams the safety is an idiot. Two different players with two different play styles. Not to mention Taylor is probably the fastest safety coming out in the draft. That wasnt quite the case with Roy. Dont speak if your not intelligent.

Care to share an example of this statement?
1 playoff win in 12 years doesn’t exactly scream a wealth of talent on the roster. These two, like every cowgirl, are/where incredibly overrated.
Only players that can truly play in Dallas are Ware and Austin. Everyone else is fools gold.

“so let’s recap. what have the cowboys done this off-season? oh, lost players. who have they signed? nobody.”
They can lose players, gain none and still be waaaay out of the 0-3gles league.
20-16 in Philly to take their pride
    24-0 to take the division
34-14 to end Donovan McNabb’s career as an 0-3gle

  49. .Vox Veritas. says: Apr 2, 2010 3:38 PM

“Time to sign some big time free agent felons!!!”
I’m pretty sure the 0-3gles have their quota filled already.

  50. .Vox Veritas. says: Apr 2, 2010 3:46 PM

I hope Flo and Hamlin sign with the 0-3gles so they can become “the best since Runyan and Dawkins”.
Lord knows the 0-3gles are pathetic on OL and DB so they could surely use the help. Flo could bury any of their OL starters out of a job.

Vox, you’re an asshole, but most/some of the time there is a kernel of truth in the drivel you write. This is not one of those times, and you either know it deep down inside or you’ve taken a liking to the taste of the kool-aid.
