Kevin Mawae could be a Titan again

On March 5, center Kevin Mawae became an unrestricted free agent. The Titans weren’t interested in bringing him back as a starter, so he looked elsewhere.

And he found nothing.

So now, Mawae is talking to the Titans about returning as a backup, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean.

“We are working on it,’' agent Mark Bartelstein told Wyatt. “Mike knows that Kevin would love to be back and we are just trying to work on something that would make sense for everybody. But he knows how Kevin feels about being in Tennessee and being a part of the Titans. We are hoping that something can be worked out.’'

Mawae, a 16-year veteran, spent the last four in Tennessee, starting all but three games. He also has played for the Seahawks and the Jets.

There has been speculation that Mawae’s role as NFLPA President during the worst labor climate since 1987 has affected his job search. No one would admit whether that’s a factor, but how could it not be?
