Lanjoith, ah, so quick to cast labels on people by calling Florio a “liberal”. What people are objecting to are public figures constantly throwing religion in our faces and trying to run our lives based on religion. So, keep believing that dinosaurs didn’t exist (or walked with man), that the earth is only 10K years old, evolution isn’t true, that science and medicine are evil, or preaching to women on national TV what to do with their bodies. There’s religion and then there’s shoving religion down our throats.

What imaginary conversation were you listening to?
In the first place, why is wanting to study a person discrediting someone? Do you mean that you’d hire someone without ever checking on them? Wow, sounds just like what Buffalo’s been doing already. You should probably head for the Bills’ complex and sign up as a scout. Oh and that’s why all those scouts turn up to the Combine and Pro Days — to get a close look at the guys doing the drills, etc.
He didn’t say that he was recommending them to take him with the pick BUT that he’d have to get up close and personal before he could even suggest that the team take him with their first pick.

Sorry, I should have been clearer (had a few beers watching the Final Four). But I think we’re saying the same thing. I don’t think Kelly should be recommending Tebow when he admits that he hasn’t seen him do any drills and would “really need to study him”. And Kelly does say that he would be comfortable recommending him in the 2nd round, so we’ll have to disagree on that. No scout in their right mind would recommend taking a player in the 2nd round without seeing him work out or perform drills.

Kelly likes tebow for one reason and one reason only. kelly is a religious cookoo, nut as well. This is the only matter of substance or more accurately “nonsubstance” that Kelly attempts to upgrade timmy with, as timmy is not made of long range mettle.

Bobby Douglass? Billy Kilmer? Slash? While there are some precedents for scatterarm QBs in the NFL, it mostly sets the program back a half decade. Kelly’s been playing without a helmet– this suggestion, the Gailey hiring and a switch to 3-4 when you don’t have the people will doom the Bills to a move to La La land I fear. Shouldn’t happen to the Bills fans, who are heroic.

I also applaud the Bills for keeping their Hall of Fame players involved in the franchise. But, as Kelly said himself, being a former player shouldn’t make you a qualified talent evaluator. Just like being a former player shouldn’t make you a qualified sports journalist/broadcaster (Emmitt Smith).

Hey Mike….maybe you’re missing the point that the fanbase wants Kelly and Thurman involved with the team in any way possible.
Maybe you also missed the press conferences where Chan and Nix were hired….who were int he room? That’s right Kelly and Thomas. Why were they there? One would think Wilson wanted them there, I doubt they bum rushed the presser.
Frankly, I don’t know if you noticed…but the Bills scouting staff could use all the help they can get.
While we don’t see Terry and Joe making draft recommendations….we do wee them making recommendation on with telephone package to buy, BBQ sauce to eat and Bradshaw’s naked butt in Failure to Launch….so a HOFer’s input on quarterbacks seems a lot more apt, doesn’t it?

What you just witnessed here was florio creating a story out of um, nothing. You can’t even argue that an editorial was created here because it’s reacting to something fundamentally, imaginary.

How is Jim Kelly offering his opinion on one player any different than when you talk about a guy’s draft prospects? If you aren’t rolling up your sleeves and grinding away and visiting college campuses and watching film, then what makes you think anybody should care about what you say about a potential draft pick?
A reporter asked Jim Kelly a simple question, and he gave the perfect answer!
