Another voice added to the Tebow first round chorus

Bob Tebow started it by saying his son would go in the top-15 picks.

Both Florio and I have also separately chimed in saying that we think someone will take a chance on Tebow in the first round.

Mock drafts still routinely list Tebow in the second round.  Vegas would probably set his over/under draft slot around 45.

But Mike Lombardi of the NFL Network believes Tebow won’t make the draft’s second night.

“From the people I’ve talked to,” Lombardi writes.  “It now appears likely that he’ll go in
the bottom of the first round.”

It’s remarkable that Tebow was often talked about as a mid-round prospect after the Senior Bowl, and now there’s plenty of belief he’ll go in the top 32.

He must be a great dinner date.

  1. What happened to your gaurantee that Jax would take him in the first thanks to collusion?

  2. I can see ESPN’s draft coverage:
Day One — Climb on Tebow’s jock the entire first round.
Day Two — Climb on Tebow’s jock until he is picked. Then climb back on it as ESPN ignores the other selections.
Day Three — Continue the Tebow lovefest with Suzy “I can’t pronounce the sound the letters ‘ER’ make” Kolber. Review round one and ignore round 4-7.

  3. There’s a reason no NFL team pays to listen to Charlie Casserly. He insists T-T-Timmy! will go in a middle round.

  4. Man, I really want to see this kid crash in the NFL! I want to have tickets to every game he ever plays in so I can watch him get lit up like an over decorated Christmas tree! I know I’d spend thousands, but it’d be worth every penny! Also, no one in the latter part of the draft really needs a QB. Unless someone trades up(what a waist!) he’ll be a much later pick.

  5. waste…waist…unless you are referring to his..well…”waist” area…not that there is anything wrong with that.

  6. I already see Brady Quinn laughing at Tebow Thursday night when he is falling in the draft and is crying hsi eyes out!

  7. I love Florio and Rosenthal still beating the Tebow LOVE.
Lombardi “bottom of 1st” well we know that NO, Indy, Minn, Jets, SD, Dallas, Balt, Phil, GB, NE, and Cin do not need a QB. So Mike is saying that some other team will trade-up to get Timmy. Nice try Gregg.
Also “most mocks have Tim in a mid-round and Vegas O/U at 45 seems just right. But I would not spend my money.

  8. IND @ #31.
Bill Polian wants to leave his son with a quarterback for the future. Who better to train TIm Tebow than Peyton Manning? Stranger things have happened.

  9. I dont want to see him fail. Unless he’s picked by the Jets….them I’m hoping for a Ghoulston like BUSTO!

  10. @Mr Shrek
I hate to break it to you but I doubt that Tebow will even play enough to really hurt his waist or any other part of his body.
    @belugabear
Lets not get too uppity on spelling errors. The only time to critique spelling is when it’s Florio or when the person in question is insulting someone else’s spelling.
If I was Jacksonville, I would draft Tebow and make up a few packages for him in the wildcat set. On 3rd and 1 or 1st and goal trot him out there and let him try to pray his way into a few yards. So he would play around 3-5 plays a game. Then you can still sell major tickets but you don’t have to feel pressured to start at QB. If people start clamoring for him to play then you say either “hey he’s good at this and we aren’t going to mess with it” or “he is awful at this why would he be good at qb” depending on how he is doing. Then in about 2-4 years you give him a shot at starter and see how he does. If he does anything close to average you start him and sell tickets, if he does anything less you put him back in his role as, what basically is, special teams captain and continue on with Gerard or someone else. You know people will pay to see this guy play so in one sense (if you follow my plan) Tebow is the safest pick in the draft.
All that being said I hate Tebow and doubt he will ever be successful because no one will use him right. I bet he will get thrown in to someone’s starting lineup to early and get killed because its really hard to learn with DTs running at you. But this is all speculation we will just have to wait and see.

  11. LOL! Picturing Mr. Shrek in the stands watching Tebow with binoculars: “What a waist!”

  12. Five teams will be jockeying for that third QB….Tebow or McCoy. Teams will want to get ahead of Tampa in round 2 because of the Florida connection. So now we are into the late first. Will Jacksonville risk moving down from #10 to recoup a pick and grab Tebow ahead of the masses in round two? I’m betting teams will rattle Jacksonvilles cage enough that they go for it at #10

I have thought the same thing. If there is one guy who would be a bigger film rat than Manning, it would be Tebow. But it will never happen. Manning would have a stroke if the Colts ever spent a 1st rounder on his backup. Hell, McNabb hated it when the Eagles spent a 2nd rounder on his backup (Kolb).

  14. Tebow must really have NFL scouts’ heads spinning. His raw athletic ability is remarkable BUT his mechanics are awful BUT his leadership and love of football are unsurpassed BUT his accuracy is spotty at best.
For every amazing thing about him, there is a HUGE question mark.
I predict that he’ll have a long NFL career somewhere doing something, but he probably won’t be a star, nor worth a first-round pick. He may not even be a full-time QB. Anyone remember Jim “Crash” Jensen? He was drafted as a QB by the Dolphins and ended up playing almost every ball-eligible offensive position at some point. I could see Tebow in a similar role. They loved Crash in Miami.

  15. I think some teams are going to regret not
    picking this guy up.
The draft is not perfect as Tom Brady went
in the sixth round… (who missed that guy)?
    You cannot measure heart.
    (see Jamarcus Russell and
    set your scale from there).

  16. @johnny63
I could see Indy taking a QB, since Peyton can’t play forever. Tebow is not the one you want him mentoring, though, because they’re two completely different kinds of QBs. Peyton’s a pure pocket passer, Tebow doesn’t mind breaking out of the pocket and running. Not very compatible.

  17. As a Jets fan, I would love for Tebow to go in the first round (not to my team though). That just means that one more good player is available when the Jets pick. Is Tebow a 1st rounder, in my opinion? No.

  18. I can see ESPN’s draft coverage:

You hit the nail on the head. After every other pick it’ll be, “So, back to Tim Tebow.. Where do u think he’ll get drafted? For more, here’s Jaws or Mortensen…” etc…I’ll be better off listening to the draft on the radio or something…LOL

  19. @ Mr. Shrek
It sounds like Tebow slept with your girlfriend. Why are you so angry towards this kid? I am not a personal fan of his and I also believe he will bust, but I will get no personal gain if he does or doesn’t. Will you? Did you buy a lot of stock in the Tebow will bust foundation?

  20. look Tebow came from a shotty Florida system that relied on big plays rather than execution don’t worry you will see both the gators and there players fall this year

  21. Any of the QBs could be a bust—my guess is someone takes a chance on him in the bottom half of the first round.

  22. I also feel Tebow would make a great understudy for Manning, but Polian will never waste a 1st rounder on a backup QB unless Tebow agrees to play another position. Besides, according to the recent Tebow hype, he will be gone by 31.

  23. If you’re in the 2nd half of the first round there will be more than enough teams wanting to trade up for not only Tim Tebow but Colt McCoy as well. It is simple supple and demand, only 2 Quarterbacks but 5 teams who need quarterbacks.

  24. Tebow has shown his fast development since the Senior Bowl. He will be ready to play by season 2. That makes him a reasonable Round 1 choice.

  25. Tim Tebow = money, he will be like the John Cena of the NFL. He isn’t very good at what he does but he is a draw. Buffalo is the perfect place for Tebow, they have a coach that runs a system that fits whoever is at QB and Gailey will build his offense around Tim Tebow.
    9. Buffalo Bills – Tim Tebow, QB, Florida

  26. Jesus Christ won’t help Tebow in the NFL
Good luck to whoever drafts him in the 1st round
That NFL team will need it

  27. I like Tim Tebow heart and enthusiasm for football but a team would be CRAZY to take a chance on him in Round 1. Why would a team pay 1st round money to a guy who is just now learning to correct his throwing motion in order to just survive in the NFL.
Look for Tebow’s heart/enthusiasm/atletlicism to maybe get him in as low 2nd rounder or more likely a 3rd round pick. Tebow can be a great NFL QB but it will take 2 or 3 years for him to get really used to his new throwing motion. He will be a team’s “project QB”.

  28. Tebow won’t go in the first round I’d put money on it. Why would someone waste their #1 pick on a “project”? Because he’s a winner? So was Danny Wuerffel. How did that work out?

  29. Mechanics can be learned, leadership can’t.
Doubt the first round selection, but second round is very promising.

  30. Hey Mr Shrek. Why do you want to see Tebow crash? What sort of transgression did he commit on you? Why would anyone waste (check that spelling a-hole, it’s waste not waist) their time on something as negative as wishing failure on someone else. Is it envy? Is it jealousy? Is it cynicism? I suspect all of those. Get a life a-hole.
