Kolb insists Eagles are not rebuilding

Speaking to the media for the first time since he was declared the starting quarterback in Philadelphia, Kevin Kolb insisted today that the Eagles are not a rebuilding team.

In fact, Kolb said, he’s heading into the 2010 season thinking about nothing less than winning the Super Bowl.

“That’s our No. 1 goal,” Kolb said of winning the Super Bowl. “That’s been our goal since I’ve been here and it’s been our goal since Andy [Reid] has been here. It’s not been — of course we want to win the division, but — it’s not been to win 10 games, it’s been to win the Super Bowl. And that’s not going to change because we’re younger or because people think we’re in a rebuilding year.”

Kolb said he has not talked to Donovan McNabb, but they did exchange cordial text messages after McNabb was traded to the Redskins.

“I assume we’re going to talk in the next couple days, and I just want to wish him the best,” Kolb said. “The guy’s been nothing but 100 percent professional with me, and a good friend. I will always look back to what he did for me and the way he treated me and hopefully I can be the same way for some other kid when he comes around.”

Keep telling yourself that Kolb…..as the db returning your pick-6 runs by you and you slowly descend to the abyss of the NFC East.

    They’re re-tooling.

Now he’s a class act, and very confident. I like him already.

I love Corn on the Kolb. He’s going to be the best QB since Joe Montegna.

There’s a backhanded compliment if I’ve ever heard one. Hey Don, you’ve been a great mentor and helped us with a lot of great seasons but the team is tired of not winning a SB.
While I feel the same… it does suck that McNabb is gone. He’s arguably (and most likely) the best QB to ever play for the Eagles.

  7. mrEagle says: Apr 5, 2010 1:03 PM

    rebuilding or redistrobution of power?

    Good Luck kevin

Jettisoning all the veterans over 30 years old isn’t rebuilding, it’s cost cutting.

  10. BleedGreenMtState says: Apr 5, 2010 1:12 PM

This is the best. Kolb already understands something McNabb never did, don’t throw your teammates – former or current – under the bus.
Kolb will win the SB for the Eagles. Not this year but a year or two after this team finally rids itself of this “coach”.

eagles or redskins? I bet its a tie…. for last place

  15. Dapollock says: Apr 5, 2010 1:21 PM

Kolb was probably just dizzy from being downwind in the backdraft of Andy Reid’s pharts.

Woah woah woah…Since when is Kevin Kolb this All Star QB that the Eagles and the media have made him out to be?
They guy is a backup who has started exactly two games in his career.
Im thinking he may be more like AJ Feely than Donovan Mcnabb.

  18. internettoughguy says: Apr 5, 2010 1:31 PM

Eh, I say let the kid play.
Seems to have the right attitude.
Maybe he’ll fold….maybe he’ll make some of you posters that already are predicting his demise look like jackasses.
I’d say at this point one is as likely as the other.

    - Kyle Orton gives great press speeches
    - Jay Cutler gives good press speeches
    - Derek Anderson gives great press speeches
    - Matt “CHOKE” Ryan gives great press speeches
The last time I checked, giving a great press speech doesn’t win Superbowls.
Now it’s time for Kolb to do what McNabb didn’t do – win a Superbowl.
I don’t want to hear the excuses that it may take him 2 or 3 years, because if you get rid of McNabb, obviously you feel Kolb is ready now – not 2 or 3 years.
No more excuses, either he wins in 2010 or he is just another “Great Hope” that failed.

This is just Philadelphia’s way of getting people to buy more merchandise. Have a Dawkins jersey? Gone. Westbrook? Gone. McNabb? Gone. Those were probably the 3 biggest sellers of jerseys in Filthydelphia.
Kolb is junk. Take a look at his game against the Ravens and you see what he does. Just because he had 2 good games doesn’t mean anything.

  22. Viper2000 says: Apr 5, 2010 1:37 PM

Kolb you may be able to play average qb in Philly but I guarantee this…you will NOT know how to deal with the Philly fans booing you off the field!
    I love this bc I’m a Skins fan =)

Going to be interesting with a new QB/gunslinger.

  24. robert ethan says: Apr 5, 2010 1:45 PM

That is what makes Kolb so different from your average NFL player, and Reid so different from any other coach. They go into the season with the goal of winning the championship.
This is just the tip of the iceberg, mark my words. Pretty soon EVERY NFL player and coach is going to be saying the same thing.

  27. Bob S. says: Apr 5, 2010 1:57 PM

    they are not rebuilding alright!
they are not retooling as well!
what they are doing is SLASHING SALARY jusrt as they did the year after they lost in the super bowl allowing 11 starting free agents to leave replacing none then blaming their collapse on owens who they then rid themselves of his salary too AND the dimwit eagles fans not only swallowed it hook line and sinker despite the eagles that year all year long being $20 million UNDER the salary cap , but those braindead eagles fans even burned the owens sweaters they bought FROM THE EAGLES and paraded with coffins on TV before a nationally televised night game.
and many of them are swallowing it now.
wakey wakey- eagles are not replacing those SALARIES of westbrook, andrews, witherspoon, mcnabb, dawkins, sheldon brown what browns are now paying him

Reid threw him to the wolves without warning in the second half of that game. No backup QB in the NFL would have excelled under those circumstances. I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts that Kolb is better than Tebow and Clausen.

You guys are all nuts. This was Mcnabb’s last year NO MATTER WHAT. And he was going to be a Viking after this year. I’d rather him on the Skins then the Vikings if our ultimate goal is winning a Super Bowl.
With that said, Kolb has been around this system for a long time now, he showed he’s got some skills in the 2 games he threw for over 300.
Now its time to see how those skills progress in TC, Preseason, and a 16 game regular season.
WE DRAFTED HIM EARLY FOR A REASON

DBOOM, the giants couldnt even beat the Eagles when we had Jeff Garcia, what makes you think Kolb cant go in and handle the giant as well. I’ll be looking forward to this season to see what Kolb can do!! You haters make it sound like Kolb is some rookie that is getting thrown into a new playbook and has no grasp on this offense. I’m sure he’s ready, and all of the haters comments dont mean shit to Kevin or the Eagles, or even us Eagle fans for that matter. Go Birds!!

Hate to burst all “YOU” people bubbles, but this has all the writings of Vick as the starter.
There is no way the Eagles bring in Vick in 2009 knowing how sensitive McNabb is, unless they had plans in 2010 for Vick taking over.
All this talk about Kolb being the starter is just media feeding. Reid didn’t want to be so obvious in this move, because he didn’t want to show up McNabb.
There is no way Kolb will beat Vick in a quarterback competition. Reid understands that if Vick can carry a team to the Championship game with no supporting cast, he can surely carry a team like the Eagles to the Superbowl.

Yeah, TO gave McNabb a sports hernia. TO caused the defense to give up 30+ points in as games that year (5) than the previous 4 years combined. TO cracked the Liberty Bell. TO caused the recession. TO was on the grassy knoll. TO forced them into drafting Reggie Brown AND as the gift that keeps on giving, TO forced them into trading McNabb to the Redskins. I still get a good laugh at how the Eagles fans just kept blaming TO for the failure of 2005. I have to wonder, Bob, if they will blame McNabb if this season goes south. :)

At no point, in your rambling and incoherent response, were you even close to anything that can be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this thread is now dumber, having seen it and read it. I like Kolb but if winning a Super Bowl has been the goal every single season since Andy Reid has been there, how can he be described as anything but a failure as a head coach?
As for anyone thinking Vick has a chance of winning anything, “child please.” Mike Vick has never won a championship, either. Add to that the fact that he’s stupid, can’t read a defense, is stupid, and can’t run like he used to, and you’ve got a guy who barely belongs in the NFL and has no business starting on any team.
The Eagles should give Vick to the Raiders for a prospect or a draft pick, and sign Marc Bulger.

  49. hairy snizz says: Apr 5, 2010 7:59 PM

Blonde and BlueBalls, are you serious? If no teams would give up anything for Vick, what does that tell you? We’ve seen the ceiling for Vick in Atlanta, and it was never as high as McNabb’s. What is the fascination with this guy? Does anyone really think he should be a starter on even the worst of teams? Maybe the Bills or Rams to sell interest/tickets? The Eagles only signed him to try to create a market for him that was never there, and it blew up in their face. The only way he starts is if Kolb gets injured. Also, I agree with DPR, unload this guy and get Bulger.
