This is like hearing Matt Millen talk football, the worst Super Bowl winning QB in history talking about good QBs. Im not sure why a slap at Joe Flacco was necessary either Flacco was better than Sanchez his rookie year and looked pretty damn good in year 2 as well. And Matthew Stafford!? Sure he might turn out pretty well but we didn’t get to see much last year, he plays for the Lions, helluva lot different than playing for the Jets these days. I can’t believe they let some of these guys talk in the mic.

i don’t think the shared agent has anything to do with it.
dilfer isn’t playing football anymore, why on earth would he curry favor with his agent?
he’s an analyst now, i think he’s just calling it like he sees it. it’s easy to sit here and just say “dilfer’s an idiot/dilfer has an agenda.” but if we stop and listen to what he is saying, it actually makes sense, whether it’s true or not.
In 4 years when we’ve analyzed these 3-4 guys play in the NFL, no one will remember this claim anyway.
and i don’t think you had to be a good player when you played in order to be a good evaluator. show me the last draft expert or scout who was a hall of fame player….

That’s how LOSER franchises make their picks and many times, they get out of the top slots so they won’t have to pay as much and then they make CHEAP bad picks instead of EXPENSIVE bad picks. A rookie wage scale as envisioned by the owners will make the rich richer as teams that make good picks will fleece the ones that make bad ones.
I think there’s a lot of history rewriting going on this year. Let’s not forget that before this season, there was no doubt that Sam Bradford was LAST YEAR’S top pick and because he chose to stay, Sanchez left USC because this year’s crop was going to be stronger than last year’s. Given the inexperience at OL, WR and TE, sans injury, I would have expected a serious drop in his numbers BUT he would have still been the top choice and it would then come down to whether Suh or McCoy was second. Let’s also not forget that Jake Locker WAS NOT on the radar as a first round pick before this year and would have been projected as staying for a full four years because of what his game lacked (and frankly, still lacks). People see him as the top pick next year but if he’s injured or regresses or one of this year’s sophomores or juniors makes a giantic leap next year, he could be yesterday’s news.

I can’t say I think any of this year’s “elite” college quarterbacks are going to be great but I’d bet on Bradford before either of the other two.

Totally agree with this. It wasn’t until the Jets decided to just pound the ball that they started winning. No knock on Sanchex, afterall he was a rookie QB starting his first year. He was going to have lots of bumps.

These ESPN analyst remind me Fox news, they get their talking points from their boss and go out there and get the idiots all worked up.
Back to football. Saltman you are right about the DURABILITY thing, both Bradford and Mccoy have a big question mark about their durability and if I’m going to pay them millions of dollars I want to know if they can take a couple of hits, because the teams drafting them they are going to get hit, alot.
To say who is going to be great and who is going to be a bust is anybody’s guess but the odds are that if you get drafted high you are going to a really bad team, Bradford’s best bet would be to get drafted by the Redskins and sit behind McNabb for a couple of years and learn, but that isn’t going to happen.

A lot of know-it-alls here seem to think you need to be a player of MVP caliber in order to evaluate talent. Dilfer may not have had all the talent in the world, but he’s been around enough to know what makes a great QB and what doesn’t. He may be right, he may not, but I respect his opinion.
And for that matter, he’s not really going out on a limb saying Bradford’s not the best player in the draft. Suh, McCoy & Berry are all ranked higher on many draft boards.

I think that Dilfer is correct, in regards to his opinion that Bradford “isn’t even close to the best player in the draft.”
Look, everyone is in an uproar over Bradford’s pro day workout. GET REAL! The guy threw in an extremely limited environment and Bradford’s PR team is doing a helleva good job blowing it up. And you know what? They HAVE to. Not just because it’s their job.. but because of Bradford’s injury history and the knowledge that if teams really start to focus on it and ponder the long-term consequences of a big contract and high pick, he will drop… and bigtime.
Bradford has had the two THROWING SHOULDER injuries and he is only going to get hit much harder in the NFL.
Skills are one thing but DURABILITY is an enormous must in todays NFL. Bradford doesn’t have it. And to be a first overall… well, the Lambs always have been mildly retarded when it comes to the draft.

Where in the world is Sean Salisbury? At least that guy was entertaining and funny. Dilweed is a joke. He says the same things all the time. On highlights, a QB makes a great throw and he says “drops an absolute dime in there”! That’s like his favorite phrase or something. That’s all he got!

Bradford was rarely pressured and when he was he looked bad. He also has durability concerns.
Even if Bradford is good, is he the right pick? It certainly seems like there will be a much more manageable rookie wage scale in the next CBA. Wouldn’t it make sense to wait for that to draft your franchise QB at a fraction of the cost?
Unless you are absolutely sold that Bradford is a stud, and not simply the best guy available at QB in a year when everyone says you need one, then it makes sense to draft Suh, who seems the surer bet to be an impact player.
It just seems to me like the Rams want Bradford to keep the fans happy and because they don’t want to go DT because they recently drafted Long and Carriker. This has disaster written all over it.

Trent Dilfer won a ring, and was subsequently cut in the offseason immediately afterward.
Vince Lombardi never played pro, yet coached one of the most successful dynasties in the history of the league.
So what the hell does that say about playing experience making you an expert at evaluating talent? Absolutely nothing!
Dilfer is no more qualified than any poster here for evaluating college talent coming into the NFL. Hell, if being an overrated QB with pathetic numbers was enough to qualify you as an expert at evaluating playing skill, why aren’t Ryan Leaf and Akili Smith commanding top money as talent scouts?

Returning from a serious injury seems pretty challenging.
Returning for a senior year when NFL is calling is pretty challenging.
At least Jim Kelly put up HoF numbers consistently, Dilfer was carried to a SB and had a short career as a starter.
