Report suggests Raiders are interested in Tebow

No team is more unpredictable at NFL draft time than the Oakland Raiders, and no player’s draft position has been harder to peg this year than Florida quarterback Tim Tebow. So a report linking Tebow to the Raiders has to be taken with a grain of salt.

But the information from NFL.com draft analyst Gil Brandt that Jerry McDonald of InsideBayArea.com passes along, suggesting the Raiders are impressed with Tebow, is worth noting nonetheless.

McDonald writes that, according to Brandt, the Raiders’ coaches met with Tebow and came away impressed with the way he responded when they asked him to break down a play.

According to Brandt, Tebow went over the play and told them, “This is how it’s called with Florida, this is how it’s called with your organization, and this is how it’s called with West Coast teams.”

In recounting Tebow’s conversation with the Raiders’ staff, Brandt said, “I’m not sure if this is true.” So maybe we need to take this with more than just a grain of salt. But if the report is to be believed, the Raiders can be added to the list of teams that may be interested in Tebow.

Even Saint Tebow can’t clean up the Raiders horrible reputation. It would be just another case of overrated/wasted talent in Oakland.

Al Davis doesnt listen to his coaches or his scouts. Thats why the Raiders ended up with DHB and JaThargic Russell 2 out of the last 3 years.

OK lets get this over with now.
    RAIDER posts make everyone read!
From now on lets just make the RAIDERS interested in every player in the draft and every free agent.
Lets not stop there, lets make the RAIDERS interested in every player that is unhappy with the team theyre on and everyplayer rumored to be on the trading block. This is rediculous boys.
No matter how much you love to hate the RAIDERS you cant get enough of us!

  52. oh the usual says: Apr 7, 2010 5:54 PM

As a Raiders fan, this is quite a funny predicament for me:
We want the Raiders to start valuing “football players.” Not track stars, not man-beasts, but football players. I don’t think there is any doubt that Tim Tebow’s bread and butter is that he is a gritty football guy. Hell, he has made a career more as a football player than an athlete.
The catch: despite the fact that he is a “football player”, he has some qualities that are to be desired as a QB in this league…mechanics, the right throws, even taking a snap from under center (or so I’ve read). So even though us fans want our Raiders to focus more on the football field than the gym and track…I guess we want it to be within reason. Honestly I would love the balls to go after him in a mid round, as he does have the intensity and football smarts. It is just not a top two round need or want. No more projects.

  53. funi says: Apr 7, 2010 5:57 PM

This makes perfect sence! Raiders have drafted a kicker in the 1st round, a bum in Gallery, Russell and DHB! They will draft Tebow and turn him into the anti-christ!

  61. winslow says: Apr 7, 2010 6:26 PM

The Raiders should draft Pouncey and Veldheer, give them a year to develop, and once they have an NFL quality line they can go get themselves a quarterback. Davis hasn’t rebuilt that line in two decades. Until he does, Oakland will continue to lose.
The Raiders won a Super Bowl with mediocre Clarence Davis as their featured back because they had a great line. Apparently, that lesson faded into the ether when Al went senile.

  62. SaveTheRaiders says: Apr 7, 2010 6:28 PM

Who’s to say Tebow can’t be the next Drew Brees. Who are any of you people to say he sucks at the next level when you’ve never seen him play at the next level. Tebow is a project yes, but he’s also one he’ll of a playmaker who has a drive, the heart, and the dedication to become the best he can be. You just don’t find someone like him coming into the NFL very often. You never know 5 years down the road Bradford, Clausen, McCoy could all be busts and Tebow could be the next Drew Bress proving everyone wrong that he was to small to play QB at the next level due to his size and throwing motion. Are you kidding me. All these kids are rookies remember that. They comein to get coached by “pro coaches” who turns these kids into pro starters eventually. Also the Raiders new OC Hue Jackson is one of the best QB coaches in the league. Same goes for Paul Hackett. It’s too bad JR just doesn’t give a ****, and doesn’t care to try to become a productive NFL QB. Oakland isn’t the only organization that’s had it’s share of problems, and draft busts. Don’t forget that Oakland for decades was one of the most feared teams to play against. Their not the only team in turmoil. Tebow could be the right guy to change the organization around. You never know. 2-3 years of learning a system, with the will to be coached the right way, and study and work hard to persevere, he could become a star as he did in College. Once again you never know. Sick of hearing all these people doging organizations, on top of players who aren’t even in the league yet. Think Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady were praised coming into the league as rookies. No! The reason. No one ever knows what kind of player you’ll turn out to be. Oakland should take a chance on him in the later rounds.

  67. SleazyD says: Apr 7, 2010 6:51 PM

At least Tebow is a leader and the team would rally around him. As bad as they looked last year they still had some quality wins. Having a QB that the team respects will make them that much better as it did when Russell was out. The team needs a leader with pocket awareness not a big arm QB with a lack of maturity. Tebow at least would work at his craft to get better and not be out shopping for a mink coat. The sad fact is that the Raiders are an average QB and a run stopping DT away from being a good team.

    LMFAO Walrus!

  77. DaBeast says: Apr 7, 2010 7:31 PM

Man! Some of you guys really really hate Tebow. The guy has done nothing but flat out win at every level he has played on. The NFL has been loaded with great QB’s with quirky deliveries and passing motions. Anyone remember Joe Kapp and his wobblers. All he did was win in Minnesota because he was a warrior and leader. What about Philip Rivers funny passing motion? Big Ben Roth’s? Jim Plunkett’s? In many ways Tebow is sorta like McNabb. The fans boo him, but all he does is WIN Baby! I suspect that is what Al Davis is looking at. Plus the fact that some of the Raider’s greatest success came with lefties like Daryl “Mad Bomber” Lamonica and Kenny “The Snake” Stabler.
SO what’s wrong with Tim “The Preacher” Tebow Raider Nation? He very well may be your answer. And he is a huge upgrade over Ja’Marcus “The Blimp” Russell.

  78. blacktoothgrin says: Apr 7, 2010 7:36 PM

Maybe Louis Murphy put in a good word for him, they need O-line with the 8th pick, wouldn’t mind it in the 2nd round either. But after that, if he is available then sure, grab him. Start Gradkowski, release Russell and let him sit for a year or two. The kid is smart and is a leader, he can learn a playbook and won’t spend all day at the buffet

  79. Bious says: Apr 7, 2010 7:41 PM

There is no better place for him to go than the Raiders to ruin him.

  80. Jordon Cooper says: Apr 7, 2010 7:42 PM

I am a Broncos fan but even this makes me cringe for the Raiders. They reached for Russell, making him the first overall pick because he had a strong arm and we all know that no one with a strong arm could be a bad QB, now they are after Tebow because he could break down a play. Steve Spurrier won a Heisman and could break down a play as well but he wasn’t a good QB either (by his own admission). I am starting to believe that Tebow may be the second coming of Spurrier, a mediocre backup who is probably intelligent and hard working enough to be a good college coach.

  81. smithopher says: Apr 7, 2010 7:54 PM

Maybe he’s just going there to perform an exorcism on “undead” Al?

I love how everyone pits the Raiders as the worst team in the NFL, yet there are several teams further down the totem pole than us in the W-L catagories most years. We’re the 8th overall pick in the draft this year for a reason, and it’s not because we traded down. We did better than 8 other teams in the NFL. WE WERE BETTER THAN 1/4th OF THE NFL TEAMS!
I’m so sick of people acting like we’re the 0-16 Lions’ underlings or something. Most of you s#!t talking turds haven’t won a single Lombardi before, and the ones who have haven’t been to the big dance any more recently than we have. Your memorys are so short – we were there 8 years ago. Granted, we’ve had a rough stretch since then, but at least we were there in the last decade!
And we have been in a rough stretch, but we have taken down post season contenders, we’ve taken down the reigning superbowl champs, and we’ve beaten teams that (according to analysists and experts) we had absolutely no chance in hell of beating.
We’re a hell of a lot stronger and more compitent than you all give us credit for. And a few changes is all it’s going to take to make us a contender again. Mark my words, if the mediocre Bruce Gradkowski can put up 2 wins in 3 weeks, it isn’t going to take much to right this ship.
