Dez Bryant goes to Boston

Each NFL team is permitted to bring up to 30 prospects to town for pre-draft visits. The Patriots have devoted one of their allotted meet-and-greets to receiver Dez Bryant, according to Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald.

The Patriots hold the 22nd pick in round one. There’s a chance that Bryant will be available, given off-field concerns that could cause him to slide like the current No. 1 wideout on the team did a dozen years ago.

And the Pats haven’t been shy about taking a chance on possible problem wideouts. Apart from trading for Randy Moss in 2007, they drafted Chad Jackson in 2006. During a visit to the Steelers, Jackson’s phone repeatedly rang during a meeting with coach Bill Cowher, prompting the Steelers to eventually cut short the visit early.

The reality is that plenty of high-end receivers can present challenges. It’s still not clear whether the position attracts divas or creates them. Either way, the better the player, the more likely he’ll be a potential pain in the posterior.
