Pete Carroll on Clausen: "It was a big day for Jimmy!"

It wasn’t so long ago Twitter didn’t even exist, much less have NFL coaches providing us updates on Pro Days.

That must have been a dark, strange, world, but thankfully we have cheery Seahawks coach Pete Carroll to brighten our evening.  He confirmed a report from the NFL’s Gil Brandt that Seattle worked out Jimmy Clausen for three hours Friday:

Our guys had a
great mtg w/ Jimmy & I got to talk w/ him during the mtg too — he’s
awesome…. It was a big day for jimmy!
” Carroll wrote.

Carroll also tweeted Thursday about meeting with Clausen’s quarterback tutor Marc Trestman.  We combined all of Carroll’s tweets together, loaded them into our coach/G.M. translator, and it spit this out:

“We are about set at quarterback, but anyone that wants Clausen has to come through me, not Holmgren.”

The fact that he tweets shocks me. But I guess it shouldn’t since he apparently lived with a college co-ed. I guess she tought him. You heard it here. I think he has a stench that is going to outlive the success he had at USC. And he bought that after all….

Anyone think the Vikings will trade up? Give a first, next years first and a few players for Clausen?

  4. GoCaps8 says: Apr 9, 2010 8:21 PM

Jimmy likes big days. Jimmy’s kind of sweet on Pete too. Maybe Pete wants Jimmy in Seattle? Jimmy thinks Pete better upgrade the line. Jimmy doesn’t like to get hit.
Don’t touch Jimmy! Hands off Jimmy!

The headline made me think of Seinfeld…
“Jimmy’s had his eye on you.”
    “Jimmy likes you.”
Just a matter of time before you hear it….
    “Jimmy DOWN!”

Whatever happened to being comfortable with Jackson being the starter? Before Favre they were ready to roll with him again.. One would think having Favre in front of him has only helped his development..

Too bad you suck Rosenthal, otherwise you might have had a witty Seinfeld reference inserted somewhere in there.

    Here’s the deal.
Seattle and Denver will end up making a trade for Marshall. Look for Seattle to give their 6th & 13th pick for Marshall & Denver’s 11th pick. Denver may have to throw in another 4th or 5th rounder, or something from next year.
Denver won’t settle for the 13th, and seattle is unwilling to give the 6th alone.
This puts Clausen to Denver at #6 and enables seattle to get the receiver they want and a pick higher than Denver’s next pick.

interesting that Marc Trestman is his tutor, he is always rumored to be in the Raiders next head coach search, wonder if Al would pull the trigger on Clausen?? As an ND fan for college football, i would LOVE it. Russell HAS TO GOOOOO!!

You can read right through Pete Carroll “It was a big day for Jimmy” Meaning the Hawks are gonna take him with pick #6, and trade Matt Hassellbeck to Cleveland for a 3RD round pick!!

I would think the Browns would be more then willing to do that. Give them the two firsts, a WR, and a OLB and it would be done.

  24. ultimateweapon says: Apr 9, 2010 9:53 PM

No, the fact that he says Jimmy had a great day means he wants someone to take ‘Jimmy’ so he can get Colt McCoy at 16.

  25. bogmon says: Apr 9, 2010 9:55 PM

How much can you possibly take away from a “workout” indoors without NFL quality receivers?
THESE WORKOUTS ARE A JOKE….we will look back in a few months and realize that Jimmy Clausen was just a product of the hype machine…the likelihood of him turning into anything more than a Brady Quinn is slim to none.
    that’s right…I said it.

    TEXAN MIKE IS A RETARD.
    A. Seattle or Any other team in the NFL, has clearly proved they aren’t going to give Denver their 1st rounder..
    B. Seattle does not have the 13th pick Idiot.
    C. You will be luck to get top 15 picks in the second round, for a guy who constanly beats his GF.
    D. You might get a 60th overall pick plus scrub deion branch.

    @ Prophet of light
I think you need to read my post again and think before you type.
It’s not that they are from the same school…it’s that they will both likely turn out to be duds.
IF it makes you feel better then Clausen will be the next Matt Leinart…there is that better?

i don’t care if he played in a pro style offense. He is horrible .

  35. scrapdawg12 says: Apr 10, 2010 12:25 AM

    smoke screen
Seahawks are now hoping the Raiders and Buffalo offer them their 1st round pick and their 3rd round. Hawks are looking to trade back and gain the extra pick. Whether its Bradfords shoulder or Clausens toe or Mccoys shoulder, I wouldn’t touch any of them. Already damaged goods.

Seattle is set at QB?! Give me a break.
Hasselbeck is at the retirement point and Whitehurst was… well, I’m not sure exactly sure what. However, the fact remains that the Seapigeons do NOT have a franchise quarterback.
“New regime, new quarterback” is the mantra; so why wouldn’t it apply to Seattle? Because of Whitehurst?

  41. TheDPR says: Apr 10, 2010 6:46 AM

Twitter is only interesting for those who care about what other people want to say. I’m far more interested in what football teams and players DO. Nobody cares how you got the information (tweet, phone call, in person), just tell us what happened.

  42. Child_Please! says: Apr 10, 2010 8:12 AM

Hate to burst anyones bubble, but the Chiefs are in the drivers seat. They will determine the Clausen sweepstakes.
I expect the Chiefs to take Clausen if no reasonable trade offer is made to move out of the #5 slot.

“We combined all of Carroll’s tweets together, loaded them into our coach/G.M. translator”
The problem is Carroll is not a normal coach. Everything is awesome with him, and he’s always “jacked and pumped”. Even when his team loses he just gushes as to how awesome the other team played and how jacked and pumped he is at the effort his own guys made.
