Report: Jason Taylor close to joining the Jets

In the wake of a belated April Fool’s Day gag from Sid Rosenberg suggesting that defensive end Jason Taylor has signed with the Jets, Mike Berardino of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that, indeed, the deal is “close to done.”

Per the report, the remaining issues for discussion are the extent to which Taylor will participate in the offseason program.

The contract, if signed, will be worth $3.45 million over two years — $1.5 million in 2010 and $1.95 million in 2011.

1st the Dolphins have a bad year (again) so he wants out of Miami. Next Dolphins have a good year so he wants back. Now sounds like he is going to be a Jet. As far as I’m concerned he can now retire a Jet. Now wonder Parcells has don’t care for this Dancing with the Stars clown. Traitor is correct!!!!

  14. sharfins says: Apr 9, 2010 3:17 PM

Don’t Do It!! I don’t understand why Miami is making him wait. Let the guy retire a Dolphin like he really wants to.

Here’s my take, as an employee looking for work who can blame him when a different employer is offering him a job?
What I don’t get is that there were allegedly other teams that were interested in him as well. Too bad he wasn’t like his brother-in law Zach Thomas refusing an offer from the Patriots out of general respect and loyalty to the Dolphins a couple of years ago.
I guess no matter how much hate you for a team it all comes down to how it will benefit them. Feel sorry for his family that won’t get to see JT as much as they had before, an earlier problem when he went to the Redskins.
    TANKS FER THE MEMORIES!

Jets fans…..he’ll be an improvement over Gholston, but not as good as a potential pick in the draft like a Sergio Kindle in the first round.

  29. RexRyan'sStressedLapband says: Apr 9, 2010 3:53 PM

God I hope this is just a ploy to get the Fins to bite. If JT were talking to any team outside of the AFCE, it would be ok, but don’t become a Jet JT!!!!!!!!!! Or a Patriot!!!! Or a bill. Just wait it out and come back to Miami.
    Man I hate change.

This is a pretty hypocritical move for a guy who hates the Jets so much… What happened to what he was saying last year??? How it was a mistake to go to Washington and it made him appreciate the Dolphins even more??? How he didn’t care about money and he wanted to play for his “home” town of Miami for his “home” fans???
So if Miami makes the playoffs this year, will he want to come back in 2011??
Go f*ck yourself Jason… Dolphin fans around the world are saddened and BETRAYED!

  34. jetboy says: Apr 9, 2010 4:07 PM

shows how Dolphin fans really are, we had no hard feelings when Pennington left us for you loser’s, yes it stung a little, but some of your comments are complete joke, “watch your back” that my friends is how they act at their rainbow colored stadium, nothing but drunken classless words they spew, you have the nerve to threaten a person you gutless little thug bitch. Years of losing will do that to a fan.

  35. Jets474 says: Apr 9, 2010 4:08 PM

Wow so many pissed of Miami fans. I guess this was the only great player you had since Marino retired. But come on its football whats with all the “watch your back when you come back to Miami” and that hes a “traitor”. I guess your just pissed because hes going to get a ring this year. I think I know a way to ease the pain for you Miami fans you can have gholston.

  36. MagicMan407 says: Apr 9, 2010 4:15 PM

LOL if history repeats itself he will go to the Jets and play pretty horrible. But it does take out the whole drafting a blitzing outside linebacker out. Sounds like free safety or WR first round for the Jets. How old is Jason Taylor? Hes like ancient now! He is a reality star junky and just wants to be on hard knocks. Situational player at best!

Make sure he gets it in September when most Jests fans talk about Super Bowls

  40. PFTiswhatitis says: Apr 9, 2010 4:23 PM

What a loser. He goes to the stinkin Jets. Even if they win it all (and they wont) how can it be worth it? Its the stinkin JETS and now he has polluted his entire career.

  41. WarLoxx says: Apr 9, 2010 4:25 PM

  42. JetFanLivinInMiami says: Apr 9, 2010 4:26 PM

Wow! How quickly, Dolphins throw their players under the bus.
Listen, the guy has to make a living. The Dolphins decided to make him wait. He doesn’t want to wait. He wants a deal now, the Jets stepped in and made a move. Hopefully, it works out. I think he will be a 3rd down specialist; I believe someone in this thread mentioned 5 – 8 sacks.. that’s about right.
If the rumor is true, we welcome you Jason.
Oh, and Jason if you think the Jets fans were horrible,etc.. trust me buddy, you haven’t seen your Dolphins fans in action. They are harsh.

  43. juniorlas says: Apr 9, 2010 4:29 PM

Hey Jetboy, years of losing?!? Your stupid ass team has won less than Miami! I’m so sick of still hearing about last year’s playoff run that you BACKED into…then beat a Bengal team that Notre Dame could beat, a choking Charger team and then LOST so u didn’t win anything…..years of losing…please…you CUT Pennington for Favre…I don’t care if he goes to the Jets or the Pats…Miami is still gonna sweep the Jets AGAIN….go talk about that all week!

  44. JetChris says: Apr 9, 2010 4:31 PM

Looks like players want to go to a winning team not a rebuilding one…
As a Jets fan, I did not want them to sign JT

  45. Matt Walsh says: Apr 9, 2010 4:31 PM

Did all these Dolfans scream that Parcells was traitor and that they didn’t want him?
Thought so. stop your crying ladies.

  46. reo says: Apr 9, 2010 4:33 PM

why is this getting a lot of publicity? only reason he’s going to the jets is b/c no one else wants him.

  47. BornSlippy says: Apr 9, 2010 4:34 PM

Why do people think rex will make JT a sack machine, he couldnt get any of his other pass rushers to do anything last year. Teams who had 2 good recievers usually had no problem with that D.

  48. Rob B says: Apr 9, 2010 4:36 PM

you can keep gholston and you can have Taylor, the last time he left we won the division, he comes back & no playoffs as has been the norm here with him on the team. now maybe we can get to the super bowl and watch him cry that he has to miss it. good luck in that puke green jersey.

  49. cubano109 says: Apr 9, 2010 4:39 PM

    @ Jetboy
Drop the crack pipe. Remember Pennington was cut by the Jets for Favre. After the 7 plus years Pennington worked hard for your team and you just cut him, thats disrespect. Taylor was not cut or replaced, he decided that if he was’nt signed immediately he would try and pressure Miami so he would get what he wants. And as far as years of losing why is it Miami has been in 5 Superbowls and Won 2 with an undefeated season but yet the Jets have 1? Even you Jet fans believe that your team is cursed from from losing over all this time.
Oh, and seek therapy for that aggression and rage you have, theres got to be a better release than talking trash about Miami on here on an hourly basis.

  50. Macadamia says: Apr 9, 2010 4:40 PM

Who cares? He’s over-the-hill and hasn’t done anything lately besides show off some dance moves on a terrible TV show. Coach Bypass sure is collecting some questionable additions to his D this offseason if this holds up.

  51. HtotheB says: Apr 9, 2010 4:42 PM

Parcells obviously didn’t care much for him when he came in to Miami. The only reason I think he came back last year was so people could break out their 99 jerseys one last time. One of my favorites but I could really care less about hoping you lose every game miserably! J-E-T-S-SUCKSUCKSUCK! Let’s go Phins!

  52. leafsfins says: Apr 9, 2010 4:44 PM

HEy JT maybe you are a scum bag..well like most dolphin ass fans especially in New York..but who can blame you it is a much better situation for you in NY and the team you are joining..you got paid well while tin Miami .but gave your all it is a business…no different than when Brian Cox signed with jets ..Who the hell is Ireland to be so UPPITY/arrogant to think he should wait around till after the draft..if he is that “important to the organization” shouldn’t matter sign him..so Jason F MIAMI in all terms Parcells would sell his kid or sleep with more interns and get more divorces to win..so screw them and fin fans worldwide

  58. Shawn says: Apr 9, 2010 5:03 PM

I believe the Jets could go to the Superbowl if they have a good draft and trade for Brandon Marshall, of course Jason Taylor will help too.

  59. JetChris says: Apr 9, 2010 5:04 PM

Are you kidding me? No hard feelings when Pennington “left us for you losers”? HAH! Shows how delusional the Jets fans are. Just following suit of course. Your team is a bunch of sore loser jerkoffs who try to act like they didn’t lose two to the Fins last year – like somehow because they are the Jests losing isn’t their fault. Excuse making b!tches is what you are.
Case in point: You guys jizzed all over yourselves about Favre. Your team signed Brett and RELEASED Pennington. Pennington came back to seal up the AFC East (when was the last time your sorry team did that?) and complete the embarrassment that is the Jets. Yet, here is some short term memory Jests fan trying to turn it around and say he LEFT? HAH! x2 Do you practice being a joke or does it come naturally.

  63. smithopher says: Apr 9, 2010 5:42 PM

Everyone who says this is money motivated is crazy. Seriously? The 3 million dollar price range for one of the best pass rushers in the league for two seasons is an incredible deal for the Jets. I’d call him a sellout for playing for the dolphins for so long, just because he was getting paid to help a team not make the playoffs for so many years. Maybe, just maybe, Taylor isn’t a sellout and would like to play in a Superbowl? Taylor himself was one of the Jets’ biggest critics. It says a bit about the new regime for him to go back on his thoughts to the degree where he may sign with them. Rex Ryan is an elite defensive mind who knows how to utilize his weapons, and Jason Taylor is going to be a good one for him. I hope this deal goes through.

Question… when the hell have the dolphins done ANYTHING since Marino left town… aside from lucking into the playoffs 2 years ago?
It must have been b/c JT was in DC, right? Not b/c Tom Brady was injured, or b/c Favre’s arm went dead down the stretch…

I can’t understand what the Dolphins are doing and if this does happen, the honeymoon with Parcells in Miami if officially over. I can honestly understand why JT would do it since the Phins are treating him like a work release criminal and can’t blame JT for doing it, but if he does, he really screws up his Dolphins legacy which is a shame.

  69. hueskie says: Apr 9, 2010 6:29 PM

Your right we did release Pennington, but delusional, from a guy who’s name is we miss Dan, give it up, that’s getting real old, that would be like saying we miss Joe, face the music your team is not making any moves to improve so lets really hate the Jets more, instead taking your insecurities out on us is pathetic, why don’t you channel your hate towards your ownership for turning your team into a circus show with all your celebrity ownership, painting your stadium into a rainbow colored eye sore, and being so arrogant they constantly refuse to get better by not making enough moves in free agency and screwing the draft up every year Pat White, have a good one…
