Gerald McCoy has curious cinema tastes

The e-mail from the folks at JoeBucsFan.com sat unopened in the stack for most of the day on Friday, with the subject line “Gerald McCoy’s favorite movie.”  At one point, Florio Jr. (who has commenced his apprenticeship aimed at eventually taking this thing over, primarily because he believes it will get him out of going to college) came in, saw the unopened message in the stack, and said, “Don’t you want to know what Gerald McCoy’s favorite movie is?”

“I don’t care,” I replied.  (And then I told him to go get his shine box.)

So I accidentally clicked on the unopened message this morning.  And I learned that the favorite movie of Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy is The Little Mermaid.

McCoy made the admission during a live chat on NFL.com.  “I grew up watching the movie with my sister, because I was the only boy,” McCoy said.  “Most of the time I was playing with action figures, but I like music
and little mermaid had a lot of music, so it became my favorite.”

Gerald?  We appreciate the candor.  But when they’re initiating the rookies at whichever team draft, you won’t be singing the Sooners fight song.  You’ll be singing Part of Your World.

That’s funny. I like Gerald McCoy. It’s nice to see a football player who is talented but still has an IQ of more than 10 (cough Chris Johnson cough) and a sense of humor.

Who cares………I mean really. Dont feel you have to stoop to this level just to keep the posts count up.

I don’t know which is worse, McCoy liking the movie or you actually knowing songs from the movie!

In all seriousness though that movie is a lot of people’s favorite movie…it is mine.

mccoys a fruitcake, with this breaking news i predict he’ll drop out of the first round

  13. BigBear123 says: Apr 10, 2010 10:34 AM

Florio Jr. needs to go to college to pick up some of your bitterness and dry wit.
Only way to acquire such things is from real life experiences.

  14. Cheesus says: Apr 10, 2010 10:37 AM

That’s a red flag. He might fall out of round one

  15. smithopher says: Apr 10, 2010 10:46 AM

Honestly, all this says is that this guy is human. He may make for a great father some day, he isn’t necessarily your typical NFL tough guy, but he can still be a worthy top 3 pick and make his way to multiple pro bowls and/or all pro teams. Jason Taylor is a respected player and he did Dancing With The Stars. I grew up with a younger sister and also enjoyed movies like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King, I mean who cares. Everyone was a child once upon a time.

Wow Florio…. You’re just as bad by knowing the songs. Hopefully Florio Jr goes to college, that way he isn’t as stupid as you! lol j/k
Send him to UK. Best college in the US!

Florio, Jr. is eventually taking over? Yeah, nepotism is always great for an organization’s success. Just ask the Bengals.

  21. hnirobert says: Apr 10, 2010 11:08 AM

Seems like a good guy. Nothing wrong with having someone with a good and likable personality off the field as well as a beast on the fied.

  22. tombrookshire says: Apr 10, 2010 11:18 AM

Mike: Liking the Little Mermaid doesn’t necessarily make him gay. Are you going to ask him if he is? Just wonderin’

  23. Fail Cat says: Apr 10, 2010 11:18 AM

Factoid: The Little Mermaid was also David Robinson’s favorite movie.

I bet they were He-man action figures, too.

This is what passes for a story at PFT? Seriously. Thank god he didn’t say that he was a caring and loving human being.

Have you seen any interviews with this guy? He is a riot! Very funny kid.

  28. Canyonero says: Apr 10, 2010 11:52 AM

Hey, passing the torch worked out for the Sabols of NFL Films.. good luck.
If Florio Jr does take over, let’s hope he does a better job handling user accounts and posting comments…
    And fixes the PFT player……

Eventually Florio Jr. is taking over?
That reminds me of when Fred Sanford told Lamont, “someday son, this will all be yours!”

  32. DC_Bengals_Fan says: Apr 10, 2010 12:37 PM

Admitting you like Little Mermaid is the kind of crap you get away with when you’re 350 lbs.

  33. dwheidrick says: Apr 10, 2010 12:37 PM

Florio you are the biggest moron ever. Quit posting stupid stories that waist everyone’s time. Your credibility is growing weaker by the day. This is Pro Football Talk, what does McCoy’s favorite movie have to do with anything?

I love this post, Florio. McCoy’s a riot. Some of you guys really need to upgrade your humor chip.
Hey, Mike, next time you’re talking to Florio Jr., remember this bit of wisdom from McCoy’s favorite film: “Children have got to be free to live their own lives.”

  46. SaintsBucsPanthersSUKK says: Apr 10, 2010 3:29 PM

Didn’t the Little Mermaid have Tom Hanks and that hot POA Daryl Hannah before Jackson Browne used her as his personal punching bag?
