Shanahan “wouldn’t hesitate” to play Tebow on special teams

The Donovan McNabb trade probably means the Washington Redskins won’t draft a quarterback in the first round. But Redskins coach Mike Shanahan sounds intrigued by the possibility of selecting Tim Tebow if he’s still on the board later in the draft.

And Shanahan says that if he did draft Tebow, he’d find a way to get him on the field even though the Redskins already have their quarterback.

“I think the guy is such a competitor,” Shanahan told FanHouse.com. “Wherever he ends up playing he will do a good job. He is such a worker. How are you going to use him? How long will you give him to develop? He is such an athlete. You know he is going to work. Maybe you put him on special teams. He has the size of a linebacker or tight end. He is not afraid of hitting people. It’s a way to use him more and early on the 45-man roster. I wouldn’t hesitate to do that.’'

Shanahan’s comments came Friday, a day after Tebow visited the Redskins. Shanahan is the latest in a long line of coaches to spend time with Tebow and come away sounding like a man who wants Tebow on his team.
