I wish people on this board would really think about what they say about a person’s character, morales, etc and trophies. Just because a team has numerous trophies doesn’t mean the players are stand up guys. Look at the Patriots. They have trophies but they cheated to get them.
If Ben pays one penny to this accuser, don’t think Goodell is not going to find this out. All he has to do is ask and Ben better come clean… or else! Goodell is God in the NFL based on the collective bargaining agreement. Even if he does pay money, he’s guilty as sin. There is NO doubt about it.
Tomlin doesn’t even LIKE Ben. And I do believe based on a quote I read on NBC sports, neither does Art Rooney II.

Interesting… Last year when he was accused by McNulty, he had a very quick news conference proclaiming his innocence. Didn’t pay her off and is in the midst of legal action against McNulty. This time, he has said NOTHING. Has not filed suit against this most recent accuser. Why change this strategy. Why proclaim your innocence in one case, and not say a word the next time you are accused of a similar action? Something happened between Ben and his most recent accuser in that bathroom that he wishes to keep private.
Most of you Ben backers have criticized this most recent accuser and called her a money grubbing whore. Yet, she has not filed a civil suit, and asked that this case go away 12 days after the incident! If you still feel she is simply a money grubbing whore, then you really have no other explanation for her wanting the case to go away, other than She got PAID! If she files suit, then I am wrong, if she doesn’t, then she got paid. If she was out for money, she would have filed a civil suit, or taken a settlement.
Be interesting to see what the Steelers do now. Maybe they should continue bringing the Hell in April.

If my daughter had been sexually assaulted, no amount of money would matter. So, I am doubtful that she was assaulted. Unless of course, it was all BS and the whole family wanted some cash.
They were drunk, maybe got a little carried away. First she says she was assaulted, then not. Her sorority sisters posted that she wasn’t.
I agree with you Mike, why did they delay until now? Almost 4 weeks after she said she did not want to pursue charges. Maybe his fame, in this case, didn’t help him.

The DA said that in the letter she refused to back off the accusation.
When people are paid off, don’t they usually back off the accusation?
Do you have ANY substantive reason for writing that she was paid off?

You don’t know that he paid her off. The DA said the girl did not strike him as a gold digger. He is releasing a copy of the letter she sent him when she asked him to drop the matter. In it, she did not back off the accusation. If Ben had paid her off, he probably would have paid her to back off the accusation.
The DA said in the press conference that they not only couldn’t prove Ben hadn’t done anything, they couldn’t prove from the medical exam that penetration had occurred.
And the DA said the story about the bodyguard blocking the door was erroneous. He said two girls said in their statement that they told one of the bodyguards their friend was too drunk to be back there and the bodyguard didn’t respond–not that he was blocking the doorway. The owner told the DA they said the same thing to him and he showed them an easier way to get to the bathroom to check on her, but they never went back there.

When I started to read your blog months ago, I couldn’t understand why readers were so hard on you. Now I do.
Your comments are, as often as not, inflammatory rather than informative and based on conjecture rather than fact. In the one area where you could provide useful analysis — the law — you sound remarkably clueless.
I’ve worked with lawyers who are ethical and who care about maintaining high professional standards. I’ve also worked with ambulance chasers. You remind me of the latter in your reporting of the Roethlisberger case. Too much inuendo, too little real analysis.

If you were Big Ben and you didn’t do, wouldn’t it be worth it to you to cut a check for a hefty amount just to make it go away. The longer this thing goes on the worse off Ben is.
The line between white and black is grayed immensely when it is a known fact that the accuser was “highly intoxicated”. Was she accusing him because she was not a willing participant? Was she accusing Ben because she felt that she was not in the right state of mind to do what she did? Did she just wake up the next day and realize that she did something, that everyone knows about, that she would not have done had she been sober?
People make bad decisions when they are drunk. You can’t always put the blame on someone else for your own bad decisions.
Both were there with groups of people. If her group of people. The way the whole thing has been explained to have gone down would not be a secrete to anyone at the bar (at least not at any college bar I have ever been to). I would hope that if her friends thought she was not a willing participant that they would have intervened. It sure doesn’t seem like that was the case.
All that being said. Big Ben is still big turd.

First ot everyone Rapliberger was being investigated for rape it was Sexual Misconduct.
Second the only time police tunr an investigation over to the D.A. is when they feel they have enough eveidence to PROSECUTE NOT CONVICT. There is a difference.
Third adding the 2 together there simply IS enough evidence that there was a payoff to several people.
In an investigation of this kind the first thing any dectective worth his badge would do is GRAB AND HOLD THE TAPE showing the condition of the girl leaving the restroom (vindication of Warren Sapp). Places like these do not use the same tape over and over as they are required by law to have 30 tapes to use daily so that any criminal activity occurring during that time can be investigated via that recording.
In most states of this country (especially southern states) it simply takes a person to accuse you of something to get a prosecuter to try and convict. In this case the accusser decide not to go forward with the case after subjecting herself to TONS of “prosecuting” by police and investigators. The D.A. decides to not go forward with a case that police felt was indictable.
The Club owner, “Victim”, and D.A. all got paid by the Rooneys as well as the NFL. There was no way Raplisberger was going to get convicted of this. We will all have to wait until he is over 40 and well out of the league for him to get convicted of any sexual deviant behavior as he then would not be linked to any thing NFL.

I love the posts where the comment is “we all know he did it”. Did what? If this chick was raped she’d be pinning Ben to the cross criminally and civally. That’s the only certainty that “we” know.

March 17th is the red letter day in all this. All of a sudden, this girl doesn’t want to press charges anymore, and no reason was given. The security tape is mysteriously erased, she had shown signs of recent physical damage in her nether regions when checked at a hospital immediately after the ‘alleged’ occurence(per the District Attorney)

Everyone seems to think Roethlisberger “got off”, but if you look at it, the episode has cost him a huge amount, in terms of public respect (and probably in some cases private respect) along with a bundle of money. Whether he paid out the accuser or not, he definately dropped a bundle on Garland & company, may yet lose millions in the event of suspension, and certainly lost millions in possible future endorsement deals. I think the woman in question was aware of that, and it led to her retraction of charges. She knew she wasn’t innocent in the whole affair as well. I’d say everyone pretty much got what they deserve here, and if the girl did get some cash, what’s the harm?
