Buddy Nix: Bills plan to keep Marshawn Lynch

Despite a widespread belief that running back Marshawn Lynch wants out of Buffalo and that other teams are interested in acquiring him, Bills General Manager Buddy Nix says he expects Lynch to return in 2010.

Our intention is for Marshawn to be here,” Nix said, per the Buffalo News. “He’s under contract. We think he’s a good back. We need two backs. Our intentions are for him to be here. All this trade talk, it’s not coming from us.”

Although Lynch has skipped offseason workouts and Bills coach Chan Gailey has said he doesn’t know why, Nix said he has talked to Lynch and doesn’t view his absence as an indication that Lynch is on the way out.

“He’s under contract,” Nix said. “We expect him to be here. We want him to be here. Obviously it’s his decision. This is voluntary. That was the extent of it.”

Of course, if Nix does plan to trade Lynch, he probably wouldn’t say so publicly. So these comments need to be taken with a grain of salt. But if Nix really does want to keep Lynch, he’s correct when he says there’s nothing Lynch can do to force a trade.

“He don’t make that decision,” Nix said. “He’s under contract to us. We’re going to do what’s best for the Bills. We need Marshawn, and we expect him to show up when it’s mandatory.”

Ship him back to Cali where he belongs. He and Gore would make a sweet 2-headed attack.

which means he’ll be traded…..how many times have we heard a GM or Coach say they are keeping a certain player and then they trade him a couple weeks later?? lol

Buddy is as clueless as Al Campanis

This is obviously Buddy Nix’s way of saying “I run the show.” He is basically saying that no player or rumor can force him in to anything, that he makes decisions based on what is best for the team. Having said that, I would not be surprised if they actually do trade Lynch now.

Good job Buddy! Marshawn is young and hopefully his legal problems are behind him. No suspensions coming into this season, and he needs to play to impress with less carries behind Jackson.
I think this is the right move. We drafted him high, and there is no point in thinning our already thin depth to remove a guy would could put up 800-1200 yrds and 4.0-4.3 average.
A 4th or 5th round draft pick for him today is almost like cutting him anyways. So keep him and make him work for his job. I have faith that the Bills & Buddy Nix know what they are doing.
    LET’s GO BUFFALO!

The fact that the Bills say they won’t trade him pretty much guarantees that they will. Hopefully they get good value for him when they trade him during the draft.

“All this trade talk isn’t coming from us..”. It’s coming from the other 31 teams in the league who we’ve been calling on a regular basis trying to unload the stiff. But since no one seems interested..”we fully expect him back here for the upcoming season”….

“He don’t make that decision,” Nix said.
Please tell me that’s a misprint, and that we don’t have NFL GMs that can’t speak with proper grammar.

WarrenMoonGOAT- that wont happen but its an amazing idea lol. bills need a new LB a passrushing one and chargers need a rb. i could only hope that would happen.

    Marshawn Inch

  20. frankiebaby says: Apr 14, 2010 4:18 PM

Marshawn Lynch’s house in Orchard Park is up for sale. That’s gotta mean something.

  21. Byrd Is The Word says: Apr 14, 2010 5:26 PM

    Here’s the facts.
1st- Buddy Nix is a straight shooter. So that ‘Because he said they’re not, they probably will’ line is incorrect. Of course, any player other than a Manning or a Brady is always available for the right price.
2nd- frankiebaby, Lynch owns two homes in the area. Only one of them is for sale. That was discussed on the Bills message board months ago.
3rd- There is no point in trading him for anything less than a 2nd. It simply doesn’t make sense from a value standpoint.
4th- With all the holes on this team, there is no reason to create another.
The media needs to stop encouraging these rumors until something actually happens. Otherwise, it’s just a baseless rumor, like Bill Cowher.

    @ Mama Tried
…tried not to have you but the condom broke?

  23. pray4thebills says: Apr 14, 2010 10:16 PM

The bills have zero incentive to trade him unless they get a great offer. As gm, you’d have to entertain a second round offer and nothing less because you could adequately fill a hole with a second and then pick up a veteran back or draft spiller, but that offer probably won’t happen so you’ll most likely see him with the billubs next year. Fine with me- guys got game and I dont pay to see good sumaritans.

  24. BillsFan20 says: Apr 15, 2010 1:21 AM

No point in trading this guy unless you get a 2nd Rounder he’s not worth it there’s no talent equal to his passed the 2nd round.
@ mama tried: your an idot shut up the Bills have a lot of money for a franchise and are only playing games in Toronto because a lot of Canadians are Bills fans. Its a money making game not a way of easing the Bills into Canada. Besides the Bills sellout more home games than 65% of the teams in the league. There is nothing else in Buffalo except the Bills. I mean did you see when they got TO 1,000 fans were at the airport with TO jerseys already. They were $150!
