Recent moves don't make it easier for Jets to sell tickets

With the Jets doing their best to steal the spotlight from the Giants by finagling a spot on Hard Knocks and rounding up a gaggle of big-name players, including LaDainian Tomlinson, Santonio Holmes, and (possibly) Jason Taylor, the team is still forced to take extra measure to lure customers to the new stadium that opens later this year.

An advertisement on the right side of the Sports page at the New York Daily News web site trumpets “NEW LOWER PRICES ON CLUB SEATS.”

The Jets continue to sell seats carrying Personal Seat Licenses.  As of a month ago, the Jets declined to elaborate on the number of PSLs available.

The Jets are obsessed with the Giants. Can’t blame them really. But it’s getting a little creepy. You guys should get another hobby.

  2. brownsfn says: Apr 14, 2010 9:43 AM

LOWER THE PRICES!…that might help a little to the AVERAGE fan…and stop selling f*cking licenses to be able to buy tickets!!! Greedy bastards…

  3. Butterbean says: Apr 14, 2010 9:45 AM

You know what will sell tickets? Winning lots of games. Which they will.

  4. ozu says: Apr 14, 2010 9:45 AM

Umm… the Jets lowers Club ticket prices roughly 6 months ago. This is just an ad.
Way to stay up on the news, Florio.

  5. RayDaMayor says: Apr 14, 2010 9:48 AM

    In other breaking news…….
The Jets have installed wheelchairs and walkers at the main entry to the clubhouse.

  6. Crowder911 says: Apr 14, 2010 9:49 AM

who wants to see the JESTS when you can watch la cross or the New York Giants in the same stadium…

  7. aec4 says: Apr 14, 2010 9:54 AM

Why would you think these signings were related to ticket sales?
The Jets have 27,000 seats without PSLs, yet they get all the flak of selling PSLs. Giants are in the same boat, with 0 seats without PSLs.

  8. Happy Gilmore says: Apr 14, 2010 9:55 AM

If this were about the Vikings or the Jaguars, you’d need a calculator to count up all the brain surgeons commenting “move ‘em to LA!”…

  9. hayward giablommi says: Apr 14, 2010 9:59 AM

This is clearly the most desperate franchise in all of sports right now. I have to begrudgingly give Jester fans a little credit for seeing through the pick ups of the overrated, washed up malcontents and/or criminals they’ve brought in.
Then again, the prototypical unemployed white trash Jester fan was never going to be able to afford PSL’s or club seats anyway.

  10. HarrisonHits says: Apr 14, 2010 10:15 AM

That new stadium will be great with 20,000 or 30,000 empty seats in most of the games. The whole psl concept is the embodiment of raw greed. Its not enough to charge a premium for the seats, they have to rape you of every penny they can just to see a game.

  11. GreenAsGrass says: Apr 14, 2010 10:16 AM

Jets are taking NY away from the giants. Its all about winning, jets are poised and ready. Giants are old and slow, Eli knows he never will buy another drink in NYC based on 2007 he is going soft now.
Sanchez is a winner and a playoff performer, 2-1 record in playoffs all on the road for a rookie is fantastic.
Tanny has made bad decisions (Gholston) and great ones (Revis). Rex brings the attitude to the defense.
Every seat will be sold and filled for Jet games (we are not ALL white trash and unemployed, thank you HAYWARD).

  12. Big Papi says: Apr 14, 2010 10:24 AM

    The most “desperate franchise”?
The Jets are the 4th largest revenue producing team only behind cowboys, redskins & giants!
    Get your facts right.

  13. DCPowerGator says: Apr 14, 2010 10:25 AM

pathetic. cleveland sold out its first year w/ PSLs so did a lot of other cities that had a much smaller base to draw from. what a joke.

  14. steaminbeman says: Apr 14, 2010 10:25 AM

PSLs are crap. It is crazy to expect people to pay for the right to buy tickets. This is really greedy. If football does not get its act together and get the CBA worked out it will slowly become as bad as baseball.

  15. Pudge Heffelfinger says: Apr 14, 2010 10:26 AM

    Move ‘em to LA!

  16. tryagain says: Apr 14, 2010 10:28 AM

Promise a pregame filled with a scantily clad Sanchez; boom goes the ticket sales.

  17. mrzazz41387 says: Apr 14, 2010 10:36 AM

    @hayward giablommi
Shouldn’t every team be desperate for a SB. The last time I checked winning the SB is the goal of every team, and doing whatever is needed to reach that goal is welcomed with open arms. Maybe you are content with your team not winning a SB next year, but we aren’t.
The Jets have had a waiting list for season tickets for years. We are employed and live happily. We just can’t afford 50 grand for something as small as season tickets. If you can, good for you, but to think everyone should be able to makes you just seem like the arrogant white trash label you seem to pass on to others.

  18. Mr.T strikes again says: Apr 14, 2010 10:39 AM

Florio, you are such a little rat. This is not news at all. You just wanted to put this out there to continue to bash the Jets because everyone knows you hate them. We get it. I’m pretty sure if anyone associated with the Jets actually knew who you even were…they would hate you too.

  19. egypt123 says: Apr 14, 2010 10:41 AM

They trade a highly productive Jones for a has-been RB in LT, trade for a WR who will definitelty miss 4 games and probably a lot more in the future, and trade for a CB who is regressing, a lame-duck father, and who likely miss a lot of games in the future as well… Yeah, nice moves, Jets. Keep your fingers crossed it doesn’t blow up in your face.

  20. Krow says: Apr 14, 2010 10:41 AM

Like I say… Jet fans are creepy with this Giant jealousy of theirs. And to be honest most Giant fans don’t care any more about the Jets than we do the Chiefs or the Seahawks. We seldom play each other… different divisions. Yet the Jets are always wishing us ill… hoping we fail… and now braying like donkeys. It’s weird as hell.

  21. BBB82 says: Apr 14, 2010 10:45 AM

Pretty sad that the largest market in the country has to convince fans to buy tickets. You’d think there would be inherent interest.

  22. Bob S. says: Apr 14, 2010 10:46 AM

Giants also have not sold all their seat licenses as well, just last week sent out e-mails to all on Giants website list that psls in all” locations” are still available.

  23. Pier588 says: Apr 14, 2010 10:47 AM

The nastiest fans outside of Philly + an ID-10-t owner with more money than sense รท (2 diva receivers + an over the hill RB + another RB recovering from a broken leg + a second year QB) – that equation adds up to
    J.E.T.S = B.U.S.T in 2010.

  24. Efus says: Apr 14, 2010 10:55 AM

    Fact is:
They’d have to pay more, and add more years on to keep TJ. Did anybody else see the AFC championship game when Greene went down?
Cromartie, is an idiot, however, his greatest success came in man coverage, which is what he’ll do in NY. He was asked to play zone last year primarily, and got exposed for not being smart enough to play zone.
Jets feel with the combination of players they have, they have a serious shot at getting to the SB.
And ain’t that why they’re playing?
As for the seats, those they don ‘t sell PSL’s for, they’ll just sell them as regular game day tickets.
Plus, the PSL’s in desperate Cleveland sold out during a booming economy, I don’t know if you’ve flipped the TV outside ESPN, but theres some hard times out there. But not too bad, apparently millionaires, billionaires, and governments can still build football stadiums here in America…..

  25. Chitown says: Apr 14, 2010 10:55 AM

Kind of tough to get people to fork over 30K PSL when there is no guarantee there will be a season in 2011. Or even worse they run scabs out there and you are stuck paying $700 a game to see a bunch of college rejects all over the field. It is bad enough they make you pay for 2 of those games every year at full price.

The best part of all these moves is that all you punks Have to hope they blow up in the Jets face, because you know that if they don’t, the Jets will be a very dangerous team to play.

  28. Bleeding Green says: Apr 14, 2010 11:03 AM

    @ DCPowerGator
and how was the economy when those stadiums were opening?

  29. WallyWorld says: Apr 14, 2010 11:05 AM

It’s really pathetically funny. This franchise has such a case of self-loathing. They hate and envy the Giants, they hate and envy the Patriots, they feel that everyone is against them (unfair coin toss by the comissioner!! Spygate!!! Tampering!!!)… pathetic franchise, pathetic fans.
    Oakland Raiders East.

  30. thegoldengod says: Apr 14, 2010 11:07 AM

The Jets will sell out every game just as they always have…the owner just wants more money from PSLs. —The Jets recent moves cost them about 6.1 mil and only a 5th round pick for this season. I guess I am not seeing the issue…o wait Florio hates the Jets thats right. Florio, Grow Up.

  31. GoBrowns19 says: Apr 14, 2010 11:16 AM

PSL’s were invented in hell by satan. Only on this greedy planet do you have to buy the right to buy season tickets. What a sham.

  32. zygi milf says: Apr 14, 2010 11:30 AM

Blackouts for both teams – can’t wait

  33. arul211 says: Apr 14, 2010 11:36 AM

What is this unemployed, white trash Jet fan thing? Lol, say what you want about new yorkers, but i’m pretty sure unemployed is not quite the accurate statement

  34. finsbooyah says: Apr 14, 2010 11:53 AM

Ok I’m from Jersey so I’m actually going to defend Jets/Giants fans on this one…
The reason these PSL’s aren’t selling as fast as was originally hoped has NOTHING to do with the lack of a passionate fan base.
The reason is simple.. THhe PSL’s are RIDICULOUSLY priced. My uncle, a Giants season ticket holder (who’s seats in the lower level, are good, but not great) had to pay almost $10,000 per seat

  35. Free_Ryan_Leaf says: Apr 14, 2010 11:56 AM

@lilblue…dude you rival Vox for the biggest douchebag to ever grace the message boards of PFT. Do the world a favor and get sterilized. Seriously…do not reproduce!!

  36. Bigbluefan says: Apr 14, 2010 12:19 PM

Neither team will be blacked out it was bad luck that they were trying to sell the PSL at the time the economy crashed
If that did not happen those PSL’s would have been bought up in a heat beat the Yankees and Mets are having issues selling out as well.
For those of you who bash PSL remember the Giants and Jets did not get the State to build they paid for it so the PSL covers the cost of that then I am fine with it.
For what I used to pay on stubhub the PSL and club seat prices are a better deal.
Also this should keep the low life egal and cowgurl fans home when we play as the cost to stubhub a PSL seat will be high

  37. hnirobert says: Apr 14, 2010 1:47 PM

When your fan base is comprised of unemployed losers who still live with mom and dad, it’s kinda hard to sell tickets.

  38. Nard100 says: Apr 14, 2010 1:51 PM

Greenasgrass… just say no to drugs! Your little rant sound like Matt Hasselbeck and his OT proclamation and we all know how that turned out. Enjoy your success, but don’t start talkin’ crazy. NY is Giants town!

  39. 123456 says: Apr 14, 2010 2:48 PM

NY is Giants town only when they win….otherwise their fans hide their ugly mugs under Yankee’s hats.
Most Giant fans couldn’t name 5 of their starters and that has nothing to do with the average age of a Giant fan being 80.
NY is a Yankee town first….Mets, Jets,Giants and Knicks are all second. I know it makes Giant fans feel better to think otherwise, its just not true.

You’ve gotta love a bunch of Giants fans coming into a thread about the Jets ticket sales just to proclaim that Jets fans are obsessed with the Giants. Talk about irony.

  42. Enjoysatan says: Apr 14, 2010 6:08 PM

I think Woody Johnson has a serious case of “Giant Envy.”. I can’t wait to see Tomlinson get smacked around in Nov & Dec. It hurts a lot more when the temp is in the 20’s & 30’s.

  43. jetters149 says: Apr 14, 2010 7:47 PM

I have never headr more jet bashing from giants fans ever, there is no giant bashing going on on here at all by jets fans, I never headr of us ever being jealous of the giants, you know the media loves to start stuff when it is slow part of the year hey THERE FLORIO you douche

  44. FootballFanatik says: Apr 15, 2010 11:50 AM

Bigbluefan, I can’t wait for the day that you knock the chip off your shoulder and stop posting stupid rants that confirm you are a neanderthal. Jets fans are not jealous of the Giants, and many Gang Green fans count the Giants as their #2 team. Different divisions = no real rivalry. Jealous of WHAT? Eli? Tom Coughlin? Your defensive stats last year? The media are the ones writing about, and playing up, the jealousy.
And, did you SERIOUSLY use the terms eagal and cowgurl?? What are you…11 freaking years old??? You can’t spell for shit either, dumbass!
Now, stop embarrassing Giants fans and find something better to do with your knuckle-dragging ass than trolling Jets posts.
