Mark Sanchez says of new acquisitions, "It's like Christmas"

Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez is very pleased with the offseason moves his team has made.

“It’s like Christmas with all these guys,” Sanchez said Monday, in comments distributed by the team.

Sanchez particularly is excited about the latest addition, receiver Santonio Holmes.

“This is huge for our offense,” Sanchez said.  “It adds that explosive element; a guy who can just take off the top of the defense is a term we use to just blow off the top of a defense because he’s so fast.  They’ve got to respect him running down the field.  Underneath stuff, just throwing him a ball behind the line of scrimmage even, catching it on a reverse, this guy is explosive.   It’ll open things up for Jerricho [Cotchery] and for Braylon [Edwards] as well.  It’s big.”

It is big.  Just like the expectations that the Jets are building for 2010.  And if the team doesn’t live up to those expectations, it sure as hell won’t feel like Christmas.  Even if it’s actually Christmas.

UPDATE:  Or, as a commenter puts it, “He’ll shoot his eye out.”

Hey maybe his TD-INT will be a little better than 1:2 this year.

But Santa Claus also dropped off a better present to Miami.

Sanchez better grow up fast, he’s got the keys to the most talented offense in football. The only question mark is him, and there’s not much question about his talent. He needs to take a big step forward, and the Jets could have a number one offense to pair with last year’s number one defense.

Keep laughing Sanchez. You’re going to the Steelers next week along with a low round draft pick for Ben Roethlisberger.

  8. mrzazz41387 says: Apr 15, 2010 10:57 PM

Really, a team would be disappointed if they don’t win the Super Bowl? That’s unheard of. Every year a team makes moves to better position themselves to win the big game. This won’t change next year, or the year after. Big acquisitions or not. No one likes losing.

  9. JoeSixPack says: Apr 15, 2010 11:01 PM

When you’re talking about a team led by Rex Ryan, it’s more like Festivus than Christmas.

Accusations flew at Sanchez while at USC that he had more in common with Ben Forcedsexxxlisberger than just playing the quarterback position. Damn the cycle of rich spoiled athlete getting some whether it’s voluntary or not could continue if that boy ain’t watched closely.

This team to me is very similar to The Steelers going into the ’05 season. 2nd yr qb, gr8 running game, and dee. Unfortunately, as time goes on Rex’s gimmick will wear thin. It happens with coaches like that, Ray Rhodes, his father buddy, Herm Edwards. These guys are full of piss and vinegar only to have the players kind of tune them out around year 3. Hopefully Ryan will be tighter around the x’s and 0′s as time goes. But now he has the perfect ski downhill mentallity for this team

Most talented offense in football? Really? I’m pretty sure the Saints have that one locked up bub. That line, that receiver corps, and those runningbacks are, at this point, more talented and proven than the Jets. Sorry.

  33. RedskinsFanatic says: Apr 16, 2010 12:48 AM

Mark Sanchez is a SoCal Douchebag. He is a super bust waiting to happen. He is going to the epitomy of sophmore slump. One that he’ll never be able to recover from. And I’ll attribute his bust potential to his retard head coach who has the brain of a child and lacks true clout. The Jets are a band of misfits and I hope there team chemistry suffers because of there front offices cockiness. Only a laughing stock of the league franchise holds a press conference to announce there debut on hard knocks. The Patriots are the class of that division. The Jets are going to finish in third place in there division. All of there garbage offseasonmoves are to sell tickets, if you really think they’ll be able to beat teams with Henne/Marshall and Brady/Moss, your a joke.

Henne is a better QB and has a new weapon that blows away anything the Jets got this year. They will miss Thomas Jones a lot this year when LT averages 2.5 ypc.
I love that NYJ are making all of these moves because when the Phins sweep them yet again the post game interview with Jaba the Hut will be priceless.

At least NE fans can give us some cred. Its all of you ignorant Miami homers. Yea, Yea…you beat us twice last year. But guess what you were still 7-9, that means you were 5-9 against the rest of the NFL. HAHA…you guys blow!!! Not to mention you controlled your own destiny the last few weeks of the season and you choked your asses off.

If Sanchez can develop into a bit more of a passer this year, the Jets are going to be nasty. This kid learned how to manage the game very well after his playoff run last year. By the end of the regular season, he was starting to read defenses. To me, the next step is throwing on these defenses after he reads them. I like the direction this team is headed. People can say what they want about Sanchez. I watched him all season long. While he made many ROOKIE mistakes, he definitely showed promise for the future. Watch out AFC East.

  49. TheSleepness says: Apr 16, 2010 7:22 AM

jets were really the only team to shut down the saints in a loss last season (holding the saints O to 10). If the offense is in the top 5 with that defense, they’ll be like a better version of how dominant baltimore was the first couple weeks of ’09.
That being said, the Jets still play in a pretty tough division. Each one of those games will be a dogfight, especially Miami & New England who aren’t ready to simply sit back and annoint the jets champions.

  50. hnirobert says: Apr 16, 2010 7:54 AM

Saints pansy garbage… Matt Ryan missed only 2 games to injury yet still with nearly 60% in completions & just under 3,000 yards passing & 22 TD’s… the Saints “championship” was a result of an injury riddled Panthers and Falcons roster and the superior Vikings & Colts bringing their B and C games to the table so no blue here witch.

Someone else mentioned it earlier, but this post was about the Jets sophomore year QB being excited about the new additions to his team. He wasn’t gloating, or being smug, just understandably showing excitement.
Then Miami fans have to troll the post and spew crap about how wonderful their team is, and how 1 guy and 1 QB will make everything all right for them. Stop making your team’s fanbase look bad. The Dolphins have talent and the fans make them look like losers. I enjoyed watching Miami games last season till they started consistently choking in the second half of every game. Hope they find a cure for that this year. I’m not hating, I am stating facts.
Well, at least NE fans are classy.

Hows throwing all that money at Haynesworth working out?? Oh I forgot your such geniuses that your switching to a 3-4 and your most expensive free agent can’t even play that position haha…
And for all the Sanchez hate, Im pretty sure the Redskins were all about adding him in the draft last year.
The Redskins are a bunch of free agent jokes and busts and don’t know crap about a team oriented franchise.

  60. Realistic Randy says: Apr 16, 2010 10:25 AM

Sanchez had a pretty good ROOKIE season especially towards the end of the year when the games mattered the most. He should be excited about adding Holmes… Any quarterback would be. The JETS are looking better than last year. Does anyone realize that Shoon Greene and Thomas Jones are basically the same type of back?? Why have 2 of the same style runners when Shoon is obviously younger faster and stronger. Adding LT as a situational back makes plenty of sense because of the uncertainty with Leon Washington. I think the JETS will have a pretty good season and should make the playoffs.

On this post about Mark Sanchez’s excitement over the coming season and his new team mates, we have over 20 posts from Miami fans bashing and adding their 2 cents.
On the Ted Ginn to SF story we have how many posts from Jets fans bashing the Dolphins?? NONE. ZERO. Why?
Pretty much proves that Dolphins fans need to grow the eff up and keep their jealousy in check. Why else would they be trolling another teams’ story and posting negative comments?
Either that or the Jets fans just don’t give a rat’s ass.
