Rooney says Steelers have not talked to other teams about Big Ben trade

Amid rampant speculation that the Steelers could trade quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and at least one report that the team is willing to “listen intently” to offers (as opposed, we suppose, to listening half-assedly), Steelers president Art Rooney said that a trade has not yet been discussed with any other club.

He didn’t say that it can’t be, and he didn’t say that it won’t be.

I’d say more about it now, but then I wouldn’t have anything to write for SportingNews.com.

    Seattle would make sense. Hasselbeck is on his last legs, and Rapenstein could assault women at the many area Starbucks. Also, Canada’s extradition laws favor the serial offender, so Bendoverandtakeit could molest women in Vancouver, as well.

    Now thats funny. Many times are there posts you put on here that actually say nothing so I am sure you can be creative and fabricate something. The really funny part is that we keep coming back to read articles that say nothing. I guess that is what it is all about anyway. There is only so much valid news out there so you have to write something.

    Reading Between The Lines:
    The reason they don’t want to impose a suspension is they want to entertain trade offers leading up to the draft. A suspension now by the Steelers will hurt his trade value, simply because the acquiring team will be forced to up hold the suspension already handed down by the Steelers.

    Ok you in the back, we have a minimum opening bid of two first rounders and $5,ooo,ooo in cash. Your bid of two thousand dollars and a signed picture of you with a Hooters girl will not suffice. So please sit down Mr. Jones.
    Mr. Davis, no drooling in the room please. We will give you an opportunity to bid, just have your nurse clean you up.

    Having read the statements her friends made in the police investigation, which where released today, I’m suprised no one has brought up that his bodygards included 2 current police officers, one a PA state trooper. Her girlfriends tried to help her, but the bodyguards ran interference for Ben. To me, they are accessories to rape. I’d like to know who the bodyguard was that “helped” the drunk girl to the bathroom so Ben could do his thing. It doesn’t say much for Willie Colon or anyone else that associates with Ben.

    2 time Super Bowl winner and in his prime. What would he be worth?
    Jay Cutler was dealt for two 1sts, a 3rd and a player (Orton). Big Ben would be worth more, but since he has these off-field issues hanging over him there is no way a team would be willing to pay what would be needed for the Steelers to trade him.

    I am a lifelong Steelers fan and I am staying 100% unbiased on the situation. If they trade him and get good value in return, I respect the decision. If they keep him and suspend him, I respect the decision. I think that is the right thing to do in this situation.
    The Rooneys are in an impossible situation. Trade him and you lose the fans who want to win, as well as some games over the next couple seasons. Keep him and lose the fans that have somehow determined that he is guilty. Not to mention the careers (coaches, agents, other players) which will be affected by their decision either way.
    One thing is for sure. No one, not Steelers fans, not the Rooneys, no one with the best interest of the Steelers in mind gives a damn what the bloggers and commentors think. Again, if the Steelers keep him the haters rejoice because they can bash him for the next year. Trade him and the haters rejoice because the Steelers lose a top 5 QB and their team has a better chance of beating them next year.
    No matter what they decide there will be fans and non-fans alike that speak out against the choice, although they have different motives for doing so. I will remain a Steelers fan through and through, waving my Terrible Towel for whoever is at QB next season.
    I hope some of the more intellegent commentors understand my stance on the matter.

    What team in the NFL would want to trade for the scumbag? ESPN is now reporting that one of the flunky x-cops the jerk had with him dragged the drunk kid just out of High School into the bathroom so the defect could assault her.
    The guy does not know how lucky he was to have assaulted a girl that has an old man that calls 911. If he had hit one that does not call 911 and they are still around both Big Ben and his flunky x-cop I am sure would be found laying face down in a shallow grave some place.
    The Steelers if they put this scumbag on the field will be the largest joke of a club to have ever been in the NFL and any club that would try and trade for this PUNK would be crazy.

    Not really, Cutler was traded because he wanted out of Denver. Ben will be traded ( possibly ) because Pittsburgh wants him out! Big difference. When teams come calling they will know they have the upper hand knowing that the Steelers want out of this awful press. I think with the latest news being that another case was brought to a lawyer in Boston but was not moved forward with the steelers will look to get rid of him. I am thinking they will get a 1st and 2 3rd’s for him 1 this year and another 3rd net year. Tomlin likes this kid Dixon so I think he will be happy with getting rid of tubby.
    Side note. If they get rid of Ben and Dixon is the starter do not think the steelers will be a push over, the ravens ( the team i like ) played them last year. Even though they had little film on him he still looked impressive. With or without Ben the Steelers will still be formitable.

Ben is an egomanical idiot full of self entitlement. He’s got to go otherwise the entire team will be a laughing stock!
    Who can respect the Steelers if they let this idiot stay? You know Ben’s teammates don’t respect him. Ben has spoken boldly about the WRs in a negative fashion. How could anyone say negative things about Hines Ward? Ben found a way. How can you have a locker next to a teammate and never say hello more than 2 times? Ben found a way. How can Ben go to charity events and not sign an autograph? Ben found a way. How can one get away with raping 2 girls? Ben found a way. MAYBE BEN CAN FIND A WAY OUT OF THE ORGANIZATION. Again, yes, he’ll find a way. LOSER!

  40. Deb says: Apr 15, 2010 5:24 PM

    @PAJoe ….
    This may come as a shock to you, but those two Pennsylvania cops made statements, too. And they contradicted the statements made by the sorority sisters. Go figure.
    The cops said they didn’t even know Ben was back there. They (and OTHER witnesses) said they were not blocking the way to the bathroom but that ONE was blocking the curtain leading to the VIP area.
    The owner of the club said the sorority sisters came to him and told him their friend was too drunk to be back there and he showed them a way to circumvent the bodyguard and go back and check on their friend. But he said they never went back to check on their friend. So much for their desperate attempt to get back there.
    The DA said the two bodyguards–who were also the designated drivers–were the only sober people in the bunch. The DA called out the sorority sisters for their drunkeness and bad judgment. He also called out the accuser and Ben. DA’s don’t usually call out rape victims.
    The DA said the woman was in the back approximately 10 minutes. He said the bodyguard showed her the way to the restroom and she went in. He came back. He didn’t know Ben went back there. She said she and Ben became involved in the hallway, so she must have been on her way back. Then she got up–so they must have been on the ground in the hallway–and they wound up in the bathroom.
    So in 10 minutes, she went to the bathroom, met Ben in the hallway, wound up on the floor, got up, wound up in the bathroom, got out of her jeans (I’ve seen photos), was raped, got dressed, and was back with her sorority sisters. In 10 minutes?
    She initially told the cops she was not raped and didn’t even know if she’d had sex. The rape kit could not confirm she’d had sex. Asked if she’d had sex at any other time that day, the DA refused to answer citing medical-record confidentiality.
    See, that’s why investigators talk to more than one person.

    Stillerz…nice post!
    Staying 100% unbiased is difficult as a fan. I commend you.
    No matter what decision is made by the Rooneys there will be fans that are pissed. The problem is that ben put the Rooneys in this situation.
    You are right, no team can possibly look to a site like this for fan temp. We are all biased agenda driven goof balls. But I do believe that the Rooneys are listening to the steeler fans that are voicing opinions in the media and emails to the organization.
    NFL fans need to remember that no one player is bigger than the team. You have to keep waving your terrible towel, ben or no ben.
    I am a steeler hater on Sundays but have an enormous amount of respect for the organization.
    I do believe that in the end the NFL/steelers will do the right thing in this situation (whatever that may be).
    Like I have said to other steeler fans on here that I respect….get yourself a ticket to the Ravens/Steelers game in Baltimore and lets tailgate. Beer is on me.

  43. Deb says: Apr 15, 2010 5:46 PM

    @tryagain …
    That one was beneath you. Professional football players–even the ones you don’t like–are elite athletes who put in hundreds of hours of practice to become stars at the NFL level.
    A 7/11 clerk might lose his job if he were accused of sexual assault. But a 7/11 clerk wouldn’t have been accused by Andrea McNulty because he has no money. Her e-mails, text messages, and the affidavits of her friends show she invented the rape accusation to extort Roethlisberger for $3 million–and perhaps in part because the hotel didn’t want her on duty when he came back to town. She apparently was obsessed with trying to pursue a relationship with him. The 7/11 clerk wouldn’t even have been in that situation.
    If he’d been in the Georgia situation, once the DA said there was nothing to pursue and the case was forever closed, the 7/11 clerk could simply go back to his life. It wouldn’t be all over the news with the world watching his every move and waiting for him to be punished or lose his job DESPITE the lack of evidence against him.
    You’re a smart woman. Come on. Roethlisberger is a sleaze, but like the DA said, you can’t prosecute morals. If he were anything BUT a pro football player, once the DA dropped it, he’d walk away from this without another word said.

  44. Ravenmaniac says: Apr 15, 2010 5:54 PM

    @Ravenmaniac … Thanks for pointing me to Stillerz’ post.
    @Stillerz …
    Good post. I’m a Steelers fan. When Rod Woodson left the Steelers, it broke my heart. Said then I’d never again fall in love with any player. If Ben goes … bye.
    If he stays, I expect the team to mount an aggressive intervention. I favor making him clean the toilets at Heinz Field and engage in year-round community service programs to make up to local fans for the way he’s reportedly treated them. It might be a good idea to make him wait tables at some of the restaurants he’s stiffed, too. But whatever the team decides, I’ll support the team.
    My arguments haven’t been about Ben the person but about presumption of innocence, equal justice, trial by media, and perception vs. reality. And I have a problem with painting the women in these circumstances as victims. But Ben has created this mess and Ben should have to face appropriate consequences for his actions. If that costs us a few games, so be it. We’ll survive.

    @Ravenmaniac …
    From the beginning, I have gone by what’s been released from the authorities, as opposed to what was circulating in the gossip columns or what I pulled out of my backside as you have.
    I didn’t call it sexual manipulation. That’s what it said in the police incident report, smart ass.
    And the reason I said rape was not being alleged is because at the first press conference with the police chief, a reporter asked him point blank if it was a rape accusation and he said “No.” He said the accusation was “sexual manipulation.”
    Perhaps that’s because she told the first officer she was not raped and changed her story multiple times before finally settling on the one she wanted to pursue. You’ll have to forgive me Ravenmaniac. When I was raped, I didn’t have to think about it for 12 or 13 hours before I could figure out if I was raped or if intercourse occurred.
