Differing opinions on top tight end of class

Every year, we look forward to the draft previews from Bob McGinn of the

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

He polls anonymous personnel men about their top players at every position, and presents the results. How else could we know that 10 of 14 personnel men in 1998 said they wouldn’t touch Randy Moss? (Only one said he would draft Moss high at all. Dez Bryant gets more love this year.)

One of the big questions I was looking forward to this year was who ranked as the top tight end. 14 out of 19 of those polled chose Oklahoma’s Jermaine Gresham, but five chose Arizona’s Rob Gronkowski.

Teams that are looking for a well-rounded game may like Gronkowski better. The Ravens are a sensible fit, with the Baltimore Sun saying the Arizona product is a “darkhorse” pick that wouldn’t surprise them at pick No. 25.

Baltimore may have bigger needs, but they do a great job taking talent and not looking for short-term fits.
