I havent checked this years schedule but it will be funny as hell if the niners play the fins cause you know sure as hell Ginn will take one to the house on a kick off or punt return

Ginn is absolutely the worst player I’ve ever seen.
People think he is fast – he ONLY has long speed, no short area quickness at all.
He runs routes like a 4th grader (no exaggeration)
And dives into the ground whenever he catches the ball over the middle – to avoid being hit.
His best friend is the sideline – no matter what down.

SF picks at 13, Miami at 12, so this doesn’t help miami at all since if Miami wanted CJ they would have had him before the 49ers. I do wish the fins grab Dez Bryant though.

Ginn is very talented, but you have to consider that the 9ers coaching staff wants all of their skill players to be able to block. This is where Brandon Jones and Jason Hill have an edge. They also have an edge in that they are bigger targets who run more polished routes. I am sure Ginn will see a fair share of snaps, maybe even more than Jones and Hill, but he will not take the majority of the overall 3rd WR snaps, if that makes sense. The best scenario for him to get on the field would be a formation with him and Crabtree outside, with Davis at TE and Morgan, a great blocker, in the slot.

I don’t know why some people is saying that is a bad move for san fran, for a 5th round pick he is a steal! well over 60%+ of the 5th rounders don’t make it pass 3 seasons with the team they drafted him. Now the contract is where the tricky thing is for SF, but i’m sure something will be worked out or re-structured…

I was kinda hoping to see what he could do with Marshall drawing coverage, but the bottom line is I don’t have to see this dope dropping passes and running out of bounds anymore. And for you 49er fans hoping he can help with punt returns.. Get real, he lost that job half way through the season because he couldn’t react quick enough between catching the ball and moving up field.
A 5th is better than nothing, and the reality is Miami wasn’t going to re-sign him next year.

Niners don’t need him to produce at WR, they need him to stretch the defense and take bodies off of Vernon and Crabtree. For a measly 5th rounder, Ginn also solves their return problems immediately.
Your team’s problem is they wanted to treat him like a #1 WR, which he was never destined to be.

Ginn was drafted too high but you know, he’s still got time. It took 4 years for Michael Irvin to finally showcase his abilities. Of course, it wasn’t like he had Dan Marino throwing to him, right?

How dumb. WR value is at an all time low considering recent trades and the guy is one of the best return men in the league. Why not keep him as a decoy/return man……what are you really going to get with a 5th? A backup OL? I am no fan of Ginn by any stretch, but he has clear talent as a return man and we should have kept him for that alone.

Ginn will probably be #3 on the depth chart, certainly no lower than 4th. He should beat out both Jones and Hill.
I personally like Jason Hill a lot, I never understand why he struggles to see snaps. He has good hands and awareness, but something the coaches see/know keeps him off the field.
Anyway, a 5th rounder is very worth a kid who can do serious damage in the return game. Niners had all kinds of problems with their KR’s last year.

Well obviously he was drafted too high, but I think a lot of fans out there would have given up a 5th for him as the return man. I’m a Colts fan, and he wouldn’t have taken the field once as a receiver, but having a big time return game is a real threat. He might run the slot in San Fran if he outplays Brandon Jones.

Good trade for Miami. He can’t catch and looked absolutely lost and confused as a punt returner. The Dolphins have other guys on the roster who can return kicks. Maybe not as well, but I’m sure they’ll do their other jobs better than Ginn caught passes.

WTF are you talking about? The Ravens were #2 in the NFL in kick return average last year (26.2 per return, which was .1 behind the league leader). Parmele and Webb were excellent. Do you watch football?
Perhaps you meant punt returns, not kick returns – so if you’re talking only punt return average, 1) that’s a skewed stat due to fair catches and such, and 2) the Ravens were #20 in the NFL…one spot ahead of the Miami Dolphins with Ted Ginn.

I don’t see the point. Give up a guy who you know can at least help you in the return game for a crapshoot late round pick. More of those late round picks never make it then ones who become even solid starters. Gin pretty much single handidly won a agme for Miami last year, I’d be surprised if whoever they pick with this “late round choice” ever sees the field.

As long at the pick was a 7th rounder I am down with this. I can’t imagine him playing much for us on offense (unless there are some serious injuries), but he’s a great returner which is worth a late round pick. Returns in San Fran have been bad for a while (Arnez Battle) and this way they won’t waste reaching for a guy who “also has return ability” (Brandon Williams).
