Redskins re-sign Kedric Golston

With Albert Haynesworth’s future in doubt, the Redskins locked up a defensive lineman that isn’t complaining about a move to nose tackle.

The Redskins re-signed Kedric Golston Friday, who could be a full-time starter, especially if Haynesworth is moved.  He seems awfully light to play in the middle of a 3-4 defensive line at 300 pounds, but the Washington Post reports Golston is expected to play nose tackle.

Golston was a restricted free agent, although it’s unclear what the terms of this contract are.

Golston’s been an over-achiever for us. Wherever we plug him in…he’ll hold his own, and then some. He’s one of those players that the average fan knows nothing about, but when he’s on your team, you appreciate him.
The defense is a little strange with where players are being placed. One of Golston’s former DT-Rotation buddies (Lorenzo Alexander) is listed as an OLB.
But…let’s leave that to the “experts”

Let the Shanahan softness begin. Brandon Jacobs’ ears just perked up.

They’ll put him at NT. Shanny has no clue how to run a D unit. No clue.

With STL already parting ways with Bulger and Boller and WASH loading up on DTs, you gotta wonder if the two don’t already have a deal in place for Campbell/Haynesworth and swapping of picks, etc.

The Redskins have had this same core of pedestrian players for what seems like 5 years..:
Gholston, Portis, Campbell, Randle El, Moss, DeAngelo Hall, Laron Landry, Mike Sellers, Andre Carter, and Anthony Montgomery..
And there’s a whole crop of more pedestrian players coming up: Malcom Kelly, HB Blades, Devin Thomas, Chad Rhinehart, Heyer, etc..
Maybe’s it’s just because I live in the metro DC area.. but I’ve watched all their games, the team collectively is bad.
My mediocre Chiefs kicked the snot out of them..

I love people that don’t understand the 34 defense. Fat Albert doesnt want to play the 34, so lets ship him to the ravens for gaither. Gee i wonder what defense the ravens play the majority of the time. Also who said he would start at nose tackle. He could start at DE he is the optimum size 6’4 300. They need ends, they have daniels and jarmon. Idiots your as bad as listening to chad dukes in dc.

WTF! We have a top 10 to top 5 defence for the better part of a decade and Shanahanagans wants to change it. I don’t get it. I was very excited about his offence coming to town and I am one of the ones who really like the Mcnabb move, but to change the D is baffeling to me. I truly believed that if we could just score one to two more TD’s a game that it would definitely put us in the playoffs, but now we may have to put up 30 + points a game with this change. Hope that’s not the case.

The need for change stems from the lack of turnovers in a 4-3 scheme….the 3-4 scheme is known as an aggressive scheme that keeps offenses guessing as to who is blitzing and which person to block…..which in turn..causes confusion….which may equal more tirnovers by the defense.
Our defenses the last couple of years has been good….but far from great!!!
    Offense wins games…..DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!!!

Haynesworth for Gaither and a 3rd. Hail!

  18. AlphaQ2 says: Apr 16, 2010 11:46 AM

I agree PortisPocketsSTR8. However, I think there is a reason that the 4-3 is the primary defense used in the NFC East. We are a smash mouth running division and the 3-4 can be run on if you don’t have the right personell. Dallas has switched to the 3-4, but they have the personell to pull it off. Maybe over the long haul it will be the better D for us once we have a few years to put the right guys in place. But if I had to bet, teams will run all over us next year.
Also, as much as i dislike fat Al, he created a lot of pressure when he wasn’t sucking wind. IMO, he is the reason both Orakpo and Carter had 11 sacks a piece and that did create more turnovers than the team from two years ago that you are refering to.

“Shanny might not know how to run a defense, but Haslett does.”
This. Everyone dumping their angst on Shanny needs to find a new hobby. Changes need to be made teamwide, regardless of wherever we ranked statistically the last few years.

Wow! Blatantly taking things out of context to get across absolutely no point. That’s as bad as movie review quotes.
Ebert says “such and such a movie was long, dull, boring, and a waste of $10, but the cinamatography was outstanding.”
Movie comercial: Ebert says “such and such a movie is Outstanding”
