Seahawks double down on Williams wide receiver busts

Really, not enough attention was paid to the Mike Williams vs. Reggie Williams tryout battle royale that took place during Pete Carroll’s first minicamp in Seattle.

Lucky for us, the battle will continue all summer.

Eric Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune reports the Seahawks have signed Reggie Williams.  Florio passed along the news before the crack of dawn that Mike Williams was joining Seattle.

“Historically if you look back at our past we love big guys, and have
had a lot of success with them and haven’t changed out attitude on that
at all, so it would be nice,” Carroll said.

Carroll also could use receivers that separate from defenders, but these signings are only for depth.  If nothing else, Reggie Williams showed he can block in Jacksonville and move the chains as third-down receiver.

He would appear to have a much better chance to make Seattle’s team than Mike Williams.

    Good luck Reggie.
If nothing else, your dancing after each catch will wow them.

Wait, what past? Carroll’s been part of the Seahawks for, what, 2 or 3 months? Is he referring to USC?

There are far too many Williams’ in this article for me to care about it.

  5. Wartooth says: Apr 16, 2010 9:38 AM

So If they res-erect their careers you can all suck Pete’s butt.

  6. Nevisyakker says: Apr 16, 2010 9:40 AM

Well if they “like big guys” then Mike Williams should be their man! From what was posted earlier he is checking in at 243 pounds, so as WRs go I would say that qualifies as “big.”
Of course you have to time his 40 with a calendar, but hey HE IS BIG!!!

  7. swashbuccaler says: Apr 16, 2010 9:42 AM

I swear to god, I thought this article was joke at first.. Even the quote seems like something from Deadspin!! LOL The hawks are gonna blow.

  8. Skins_Fan says: Apr 16, 2010 9:44 AM

Why would Carroll sign a complete bust at wide receiver in Mike Williams? Unless Williams agreed to not talk about his USC days for a nice NFL contact……………makes you wonder.

  9. FumbleNuts says: Apr 16, 2010 9:45 AM

“Carroll also could use receivers that separate from defenders.”
Or an O-Line that can protect the QB so he can get the ball to them.

Any chance Dallas can unload Roy E Williams to Seattle and then they can make it a hat trick of Williams busts?

  14. Bwa Ha Ha says: Apr 16, 2010 10:09 AM

Carroll is assembling the BEST college team that EVER played in the NFL!!

  15. Duck Fallas says: Apr 16, 2010 10:09 AM

I’m sure Dallas is trying to pull of a trade as we speak to make it a Williams triumvirate.

  16. Calgaryhawk says: Apr 16, 2010 10:16 AM

First off Mike Williams reported to mini-camp weighing 230.
Second of all they were signed to minimum contracts and invited to camp.
They haven’t earned a spot on the roster and if either make the team they will be the 4th 0r 5th receiver on the roster.
    Low risk, high reward.

  17. King of Bling says: Apr 16, 2010 10:23 AM

Freddie Mitchell did not go to USC jackass… UCLA

  18. VASeahawk says: Apr 16, 2010 10:23 AM

They aren’t signed to be starters. Bring them in, let them show what(if anything) they can do, if they suck, cut them. Nothing lost by bringing them to camp. Maybe lightning strikes, and they have extricated their heads from their rectums after some time away and prove to be decent, if not, great receivers. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Bleedgreen, Freddie went to UCLA you douche canoe…I hate other eagles fans sometimes

  20. encinitasraider says: Apr 16, 2010 10:35 AM

Does Carroll know he is not at USC anymore? He Sucked with the PATS and now he is going to suck with the hawks…

  21. Outfoxed says: Apr 16, 2010 10:40 AM

Yea a triad. I like it. Instead of Moe, Larry and Curly it would be Williams, Williams and Williams.
Hey pal, could I call you Williams just to keep things straight?

hey u idiot, white girl is slang for cocaine, and thats one of the reasons why Reggie Williams is not in the NFL dumb ass

Ironically enough, in 2009 Mike Mayock told WJR-AM radio in Detroit that he wouldn’t have used a “12th round” pick on Mike Williams.
Mayock: Williams is not tough enough to play tight end, not fast enough to be a reciever, “he’s earned his money, end of story.”

  25. thebirdofprey says: Apr 16, 2010 11:31 AM

I think these two pick ups are low risk and a chance at some reward. Don’t mind em at all and I’m a die hard ‘Hawks fan. We have been too hooked on small receivers

  26. schpetz says: Apr 16, 2010 11:56 AM

    That’s just great!
So is “Black Girl” slang reference to anything negative…hmmmm….I wonder what race started the “White Girl” slang.

  27. usher says: Apr 16, 2010 11:59 AM

No harm in taking a look but I’d be shocked if Mike Williams made the final roster. When even Oakland doesn’t want you, that’s a bad sign.

Can Eric Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune run routes and catch passes? If so, he might be the best Williams in the article.

LMFAO!!!! I have a friend named Jason Williams who has never played football. Should I let him know that the Seahawks will be calling him in the near future?

  32. AlanSaysYo says: Apr 16, 2010 1:26 PM

With the Seahawks’ general lack of talent, they might want to take a look at Serena Williams.

    Can’t be worse than Branch.
