LeGarrette Blount: "I'm the best running back in this draft"

Former Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount is still best known for punching a Boise State player after a game in September, but he’s not lacking for confidence about how successful he’ll be when he gets on the NFL field and gets to put his college football career behind him for good.

“To be 100 percent honest, I feel like I’m the best running back in this draft,” Blount told the Statesman Journal in Salem, Oregon.

Some teams might like that Colt McCoy-style confidence, while other teams might question whether Blount’s attitude crosses the line into arrogance. Either way, few would agree with Blount that he’s better than C.J. Spiller, Ryan Mathews, Jonathan Dwyer or Jahvid Best, to name a few.

Blount says he’s not concerned.

“I don’t really look at my draft stock and what’s on the Internet,” Blount said. “You can call them draft experts, but it doesn’t mean they’re accurate.”

Blount should hope the experts aren’t accurate, since many don’t consider him one of the 10 best running backs in this draft, let alone the best.

  1. He’s right.
“To be 100 percent honest, I feel like I’m the best running back (that throws cheap shot punches to the face) in this draft,”

  2. Blount will be a BUC….I like his fire….just hope he can control it and just use it on the field….during a play….with the ball in his arms!!!!!

  3. he may be correct but unfortunately he is also a nut job…draft him eagles we can have the dog fighting kid Vick handing off to him.I have noticed this off season at some point Kevin Kolb has somehow turned into the next Tom Brady after 2 games last season WTF…

  4. No I’m the best running back in the draft.
I’m the best at everything and every position.
    I’m wonderful.
    Draft me first overall!
What is it that people today have NO amount of humility. Just shut the f*&% up and play.

  5. This guy is built like, and runs hard like Christian Okoya (sp). I would love for him to be on my favorite team! But put him on a very short behavior leash! Give him a chance!

  6. -Best cheap shot artist
-Best at letting someone get under their skin
-Best of the Rd 5 RB’s
-Best right hand man for Pac Man Jones
-Best at being scared of going one-on-one with another player

  7. I wouldn’t have bothered responding or even given a tin doodoo about this entire article if he HADN’T said he thought he was the best RB in the draft. There’s nothing wrong about having self-confidence, even if you do cheapshot others in the face.

  8. “What is it that people today have NO amount of humility. Just shut the f*&% up and play.”
Bravo tv, well said!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those are exactly the kind of headcases I wouldn’t want on my team.

  9. LeGarrette Blount meet Ontario Smith. Remember, when stopped in an airport, the Whizzinator is for your ‘cousin.’
    You are a G-rat.

  10. No doubt, this guy has talent.. Obviously there are maturity issues, but if he gets into the right situation with the right leadership, he may stop tuning dudes with bad mullets up after games and be a solid player..

  11. he’s good, i agree, but he has MAJOR character issues. He had to go to other college’s because of grades and the right hook after a loss are all reasons why i want to avoid him on my team.

  12. Blount is definitely one of the most talented RBs in this draft. As far as the best, that’s a stretch; but as a coach, I don’t want a guy that thinks he is the 4th or 5th best back available, I want a guy that believes he is the best. I love the confidence and so what if he is a little arrogant. NFL players are ego maniacs, they have to be, so arrogance is just part of the package.
Had it not been for the “Boise Blow-up” Legarrette Blount would likely have a solid 2nd round grade and be right there in the mix with Ryan Matthews and Jonathan Dwyer as the top bell cow available; I’d give Matthews the edge, but if you want a guy that can tote it 25 times per game and stay healthy doing so, then Blount has to be on the list.
In the end, I think a team will gamble on him earlier than most think. I could see him coming off the board very late in 3, or sometime during the 4th. If he keeps his head on straight the sky is the limit for him; 3 to 4 years from now, he very well could end up being one of the best backs to come out of this draft.

  13. Seriously the PTF comments are some on the dumbest i ever see on the net. He punched a player who was saying somethings to him that we will never really know what they were or what was said he didnt sucker punch him he was looking him right in the eye when he did it. It wasnt right but it happened we all have been in a fight in our lives he got punished and moved on i like the fact he feels that way why would you want a player on your team who didnt feel he was the best at his postition??

  14. S.O.D. (steal of draft) Onterrio Smith. Looks like another Oregon RB is sizing up for the Whizzinator.

“That would be funny to see him drop his coach on the sideline for no reason……”
You’d laugh after pushing an old lady in a wheelchair down an escalator.
    Stay Classy Baltimore…

  16. The sad truth is NFL owners and GM’s continue to ignore OBVIOUS signs of character flaws (i.e. Michael Vick) in players and will continue to draft these nut cases because they think they might put some fans in the seats and money in the owners pockets.
The NFL has absolutely no integrity anymore.
    NFL= FAIL!!!!!!!

  17. he didnt sucker punch him he was looking him right in the eye when he did it.

Didnt raise his fist until the guy looked away. Coach came over to break up the talking.

  18. Armed with this new information, scouts around the league quickly adjust their draft rankings.

  19. Watch LG shut all your dumb asses up once you see him play on the field. When he’s literally knocking grown men out with his pads and helmet in game. You people are rediculous. If his punch is all you know about this guy, you got another thing coming. He punishes foolson the field. Is he the best RB in this draft no, but he’s also not a chump scat back like every RB in this draft who’ll amount to nothing in this league.
The backs in this draft are weak sauce literally. Mostly kick returners. Blount is a true NFL back. Throw off the field issues out the window his play on the field is what these teams want. Big, strong, durable, and pounds the ball into the endzone. Not afraid to take a hit, and not afraid to square up and knock out anyone in his way to the endzone. He’s for real and is very high on lists with some organizations. He’s going to tear it up in the NFL.
All you haters will be so butt hurt when he’s scoring all over your teams and knocking your boys out of the game. So watch game film before you all open your mouth.

  20. Honestly, I think he is the real deal. He will make a team in the NFL.
I also like McKnight as a 3rd down guy out of USC.
The Browns just had a spot open up … We have picks and I kinda wonder if the Browns will grab an RB deep in the draft.

  21. @raider225,
What video did you watch? The guy was halfway turned away from him when he hit. It was a cheapshot by miles. Also, this is a draft. The fact he couldn’t act mature and struck a player of who’s team he just lost to is pretty relevant.

Cmon TT. Green Bay would be the perfect place to rehabilitate this lost soul

Great idea! Ryan grant can work his MMA moves on him and kick his ass!

  23. exactly the type of player mike brown loves to spend his 6th/7th round picks on. hope another team grabs him before the bengals pick in the 6th round.

    Welcome to the Jets.
Anyone that has a problem with that comment needs to kill themselves.

  25. Enough with these meaningless stories. Ask every 255 prospect drafted in a week and they will all say the same thing.

  26. He’s good back who will have success in the NFL. He has good RB skills, and nice blend of power and quickness. He is definitely a top 10 back in the draft. But not a top three.

    _______________
Jeez, mix in a period once in awhile. Blount talked sh-t before the game in the press, and the BSU player tagged him on the shoulder and said something to him. And Blount might have been looking right at Hout, but Hout wan’t looking at Blount. Blount also tried to fight his own teammates along with some drunk fans on his way off the field. That doesn’t mean he can’t play football, but still, he suckered punched that guy.

  28. He’ll get picked by the Raiders – Cable can beat up the coaches, but he needs someone to keep the players in line.

  29. He must be smokin a really good “LeGarrette Blount”* to think he’s all that.

    BMUG,
Does “LG’s” a##hole really taste that good? You are an idiot. Your post screams wannabe and a has been.

  31. I would like to see him on the Raiders. Then we might get to see an all out boxing match between him and Tom Cable!

Well done, assface. You don’t even know what site you’re on. PTF? I know what the T and F stand for because little Johnny down the street told me about WTF.
And last week I learned what DTF means. Thanks, Ben!
    Still working on PTF though.

  33. LeGarrette Blount: “I’m the best running back in this draft”
Was he standing in front of an open window when he said that?

  34. I am not sure the point of this story
Most players in the draft would consider themselves the best at their position
    So what?
Florio, you trying to bash the kid for no reason?
Who cares whether the scouts agree with him or not? They are dead wrong every year with players
