phropheteer, look at the spending on not only the players, but you have to look at the spending on coaches, management, scouting and you’ll see that I’m correct.
Anyone who’s a true fan of this franchise is getting told to bend over and grab his ankles every year. How could anyone continue to be a fan after they dismantled the ’85 team…should have won 1-2 more. Remember, it’s the same ownership and the more things change the more they stay the same.

It is never a great thing to be missing a key player, the Bears were missing 2 of thier starting LBs after game 1. Hey fishfan you mean the worse you play the better draft choice?….REALLY? glad you straightened that out for me….now that is sarcasm! Hey sucking last year gives them a better 3rdpick….that also is sarcasm.

By that logic, they should bring back Richard Dent, Mike Singletary, the Fridge and everyone else who have had years off, with little or no wear or tear. How awesome would they be!
If that’s the way he thinks maybe he should encourage more of his team to smoke dope and take ‘roids, because that way they could take a whole year off and not even have to be injured to do it. That would be even better!

I did read the article. I was being sarcastic. The Bears may have done a bit better with Urlacher. They MAY have (as in might have) won an extra game or two for the Bears with him on the field. They certainly are a better team with him than without him. I know that Smith didn’t mention anything about draft picks, but in case you haven’t noticed the teams with the worse records get the higher draft picks. How is it to have a starting player out with an injury good for the team? To give younger players more playing time perhaps, but ask anyone if they would really prefer that and the answer becomes obvious. That’s WTF I’m talking about.

FLYBOY- I love people that throw out inaccuracies without actually doing research. The theory of Virginia and the Bears being cheap is totally false; at least it is now. USA Today had the Bears spending the 5th most money on payroll in ’09.
RossyRoss- so was it a coincidence that you didn’t name your NFC North affiliation? Must be the lowly Lions since you failed to do so. Talk about pathetic. Urlacher has and always has rated very well in pass-coverage in his career. His neck and back issues caused his run-defense to suffer. He’s still a quality MLB in the cover-2, and can do a lot more than Hunter Hillenmeyer in the deep middle zone.

Urlacher’s had chronic back and neck injuries over the past 3 years.
If taking a year completely off actually does allow him to recuperate from those chronic conditions, Lovie would be telling the truth. If indeed a year off helped, that he’s only 32 is more reassuring than it is daunting. Ray Lewis will be 35 this year.
Granted, if the neck and back injuries show no improvement, the mounting age plus the mounting injuries provide no positives

Fishfan….WTF are you talking about? it is obvious you didn’t read the story (and I wonder if MDS did) Nowhere did Smith mention an earlier draft pick…..never mentioned at all. So I’m not sure where you’re coming from…are you?
What MDS failed to mention was a large part of his theory of Urlachers injury may have been a good thing is the fact that many of the young back-ups got to play in game situations….A CHANCE TO DEVELOP SOME OF THE YOUNG GUYS kinda of a major part of the story left out by MDS making Smiths’ statement look idiotic.

So what is the correct response to that issue? If you are the HC of the Bears do you say “Well, that totally sucked. We lost a year, and he’s older now. It’s not a good thing. But this year is going to be great.”
You’d get toasted by the masses.
Sometimes I think the coaches are just saying shit, like the writers are just writing shit. When the two collide, you get entries like this. Including my lame finger wagging response.
