As league awaits Tebow decision, Gronkowski gets an invite to the draft

Recently, a debate has emerged regarding the status of Arizona tight end Rob Gronkowski.  Some believe the back issues that knocked him out of action for the entire 2009 season will affect his draft status.  Others don’t.

If regarded as healthy, he could be a second-round pick.  And, per a league source, he’ll learn his fate first-hand, at the 2010 draft.

Gronkowski has been invited to the draft, and he’ll be attending.

Apparently, Gronkowski is replacing quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who as we first reported on Friday has declined the invitation.  Meanwhile, the league waits for a decision from quarterback Tim Tebow as to whether he’ll attend.

Frankly, the fact that Gronkowski will be there could make Tebow more likely to attend, since it potentially ensures that Tebow won’t be the last one out of the green room.

I don’t understand why Clausen turned down the invitation. Maybe all the limo’s have been rented?

I sure like the option of going fishin’ with your best friend (whether that be your dad or not) and let the chips fall where they may. After all there is nothing the player can do about it anymore and why not enjoy your best day with those closest to you.

I really cant wait till 2015 when we will never have to hear or read his name ever again!!!!!

Gronkowski is still just 20. Wow. He would be my pick for the big time sleeper in this draft. On a talent for the position basis he is right there with the top 3 ranked players in this draft. I would say he has more tools as a TE then Bradford does as a QB, as many as Suh and McCoy do at DT. All Pro if he stays healthy.

Mar 4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:
Mar 4:12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

No, Tebow will still be the last person out of the green room.

  8. robert ethan says: Apr 19, 2010 8:11 PM

Tebow shall come to the draft or the draft shall come to Tebow. Like Mohammed and the Mountain, he will go to N.Y. to keep his people from being “crushed”. He is a wise man. Verily.

Does the league check with GMs to see where they expect a player to be drafted before inviting them? Maybe they do, and enough of them expect Gronkowski to go in the 2nd.

“potentially ensures”….is that like “kinda pregnant”?

  11. realitypolice says: Apr 19, 2010 8:23 PM

    Who’s Tim Tebow?

  12. Iscull says: Apr 19, 2010 8:26 PM

He may have to wait awhile.

  13. Uncle Leo says: Apr 19, 2010 8:42 PM

Tebow was last seeing walking on the Atlantic Ocean, heading north to NYC.

  14. Ivan says: Apr 19, 2010 8:44 PM

He really wants people to like him. He’s going to receive the “pitty” vote as they show him in the 20′s sitting there, with no team to go to…

Very good player – 10th to 15th pick in round 2.

Timmy Tebow is STILL freakin’ undecided? Talk about diva-ish behavior…I mean c’mon now! Would Jesus make everyone wait like this?? What does James Dobson think? Seems like a big production number for an at best 3rd round pick who looks likely to hold a clipboard for the duration of his career…

Tebow will still be around in 2015. He will be crying praying and casting out Demons while healing the sick on religious TV channels around the world.. He is so blessed

If Gronkowski went through a full workout just a couple of weeks ago and performed pretty well, he will get some early looks. I think Heath Miller was coming off a potentially chronic injury in his draft year and didn’t even work out for the scouts before being drafted.

The good news is if Tebow parts the Hudson, it will be easier to land planes their in the future.

  21. RAIDERNATION_408 says: Apr 19, 2010 9:20 PM

Tim Tebow will succeed, he has the heart of champion, i just doubt it’ll be at QB…..but he is already better than JAJUMBOJACK RUSSEL

“Tebow was last seeing walking on the Atlantic Ocean, heading north to NYC.”
    Perfect.
Clausen is trying to avoid being present for a potential Brady Quinn/Aaron rodgers type fall I guess, I don’t see it as a diva move

  26. BenRoethlisberger7 says: Apr 20, 2010 7:59 AM

I don’t see why they even gave Tebow an invite. I feel that he should sitting at home because he wont be drafted until day 2. What a joke!

  27. WingT says: Apr 20, 2010 9:09 AM

    @moolah954
Take what back? Sorry, but Clausen is an arrogant jerk…..you do remember his arrival at ND don’t you?
But I do find it admirable that he is close to his grandfather and wants to be with him while he’s sick. And , of course, family should always come first over everything else.
    Maybe Clausen is changing somewhat.
    Time will tell.

  28. scrapdawg12 says: Apr 20, 2010 9:13 AM

The guys invited should be Bradford, Suh, Mccoy, Okung, Berry, Mcclain, Bulaga, T. Williams, Morgan, Joe Haden and Dan Williams. Those are all top 15 picks.

  29. Rasta says: Apr 20, 2010 9:22 AM

God will see to it that his Grandson is drafted in the first round, mark my word.
    Tim is so blessed blessed!!
