Kevin Colbert says Steelers draft priorities haven't changed

Don’t expect Ben Roethlisberger’s impending suspension to change Pittsburgh’s draft board.

Speaking with Mark Madden on WXDX in Pittsburgh Monday afternoon, Steelers G.M. Kevin Colbert said that quarterback and tight end were the only positions that weren’t priorities for the team.

He said that was true at the beginning of the offseason, and nothing has changed. (Roethlisberger’s name was oddly not even mentioned in the interview.)

A lot of folks think the Steelers will take Florida center Maurkice Pouncey, but Colbert said don’t be surprised if they moved from the No. 18 overall pick.  He estimated there was a 70-75% chance they’d keep the pick, a 5% chance they’d move up, and a greater chance they would move back.

Colbert expects a lot of interest in the pick, especially with such a deep defensive class.  He says there are more 300-pound defenders that can run and conversion outside linebacker prospects than any class in memory.

Those are just the prospects a 3-4 defense needs.  Unfortunately for long-time 3-4 teams like Pittsburgh and New England, nearly half of the league is now looking for similar players.

Was the announcement of Bens suspension moved to BEFORE the draft so it would be easier to make Ben TRADEABLE on Draft Day???

Right now the Squeelers are scouring their draft board looking for the next Rapistberger. “We have a tradition to uphold”, exclaimed Squeeler GM Kevin Colbert. Art Sr. is turning over so often in his grave these days that he’s damn near corkscrewed out of the ground. Oh, the humanity.

Rapistberger. The new identity of the Pissburgh Rapists. Hope all you Rapistberger fans are prepared for the onslaught of harassment about your Rapist QB you will be getting for the rest of your natural lives, every time you bring up how many SuperBowls the team has won.

Looks like the Lions will be trading with Pittsburgh for Sean Weatherspoon at #18 now.

Dixon has proved to be a capable backup. Not sure if he is starter material yet but I bet we find out soon.

That’s right Ben. These fools think we’re going to trade you away so we can give the rest of those half assed teams a chance to win. Haha, right.

I think that last year’s Steeler draft class has the lowest average Wonderlic score of any team. That is something that they could change. That included A.Q. Shipley’s 38, and Shipley never made it out of camp, I don’t think. Dumb is as dumb does, or something like that.

Now that the DA has determined Ben did nothing illegal, he can go back to raping NFL defenses, namely the Ravens.

  18. War_Paint says: Apr 19, 2010 8:13 PM

They had better contemplate drafting a QB, unless they think Dixon is starter material.

As a devious Eve caused man to fall and leave paradise, it took a devious ho to cause the Steelers to fall from being the elite franchise of the NFL.

Kevin Colbert knows how to draft. I think his record speaks for itself. So statements like: “Unfortunately for long-time 3-4 teams like Pittsburgh and New England, nearly half of the league is now looking for similar players” probably don’t scare him.
He’s well-aware that imbeciles like Josh McDips**t and Brian Xanders don’t know what they’re doing. The cream rises to the top.
And the s**t, like whatever candyass is posting here as “BenRoethlisburger,” (note the misspelled, dunderf**k name) is naturally flushed to the septic tank.

It’s good to know the Steelers organization is staying true to it’s priorities. What the pick will be is anyone guess but I’m assuming the best player available since several positions are under consideration.
    GO STEELERS!

I’d draft CB or best player available (excluding OL). I hope Kyle Wilson is still around when we get our pick. The guy can play and I think would be starting within a month or so. With the two guys that we drafted last year ready to play bigger roles I think that we can turn this secondary around with a stud.
Our CBs killed us last year (OAK, KC games).
Last year was supposedly a talent rich draft for OL and look how many guys that were drafted in the first five rounds were cut around the league. I think that zone and area blocking makes a lot of guys look better than they are.
Second round grab a WR. Sweed will be playing in the CFL next year at this pace.
The only way I wouldn’t go for Wilson, Haden, or Thomas for DBs is if Spiller drops to us. He would be the perfect change of pace RB. Thunder (Mendenhall) and Lightning (Spiller). This guy is an impact player.
Robert Ethan….you are obsessed with Ben. You’ll just have to deal with the $5 that you lost on the Cards in the Super Bowl to my Steelers and kill yourself, numb nuts. You talk more about Ben’s cock than your mom does.
