La Canfora says trade of Haynesworth is “very likely”

A year ago, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder recommended former team beat writer Jason La Canfora for Adam Schefter’s old job at NFL Network. Many thought that Snyder simply wanted to get La Canfora out of his team’s backyard, given an at-times adversarial relationship between La Canfora and the franchise.

But even though La Canfora’s beat now includes the other 31 teams, too, he’s surely still got a soft spot for the Redskins. And he’s currently pushing a story that the team officially has been denying. Vehemently.

A day after coach Mike Shanahan insisted that there has been no trade talk regarding defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth, La Canfora reports (via our corporate siblings at Rotoworld) that a draft week trade of the 2009 free-agent acquisition is “very likely.”

Though Haynesworth currently has a contract very conducive to a trade, with as a practical matter three years, $16 million, and $9 million guaranteed, the fact that he received $20 million on April 1 could be an issue. The Redskins surely will want some of that money back from him, and he’d likely be willing to return some of it -- especially if his new team would be willing to reimburse him via some new money.
