And Bret seems to be the type that gladly shares his knowledge of the game. Having Farve arrive may have been the best thing that could have happened for T.J..

You really think Sage Rosenfels SMOKED Tarvaris Jackson? In what? Looking at the training camp stories from local newspaper reports, it was pretty even. Some days T-Jack looked better, some days Sage looked better. Then come pre-season, Jackson was clearly better! He had a higher completion percentage, a higher yards per completion, and an TD-INT ratio of 3-0 compared to Sage’s 0-1. Please tell me where the “smoking” took place.
You undeniably have something against T-Jack other than his play to flat out lie about his ability compared to some guy that’s had 9 years to make it and hasn’t.

I thought since they brought Rosencopter in he was gonna be the next guy (for a couple years). Tjack could never get through his reads and get rid of it in rhythm, not that Sage is an all pro, but seriously. Not being able to read the defense catches up to a qb, they peg your tendancies and you’re done. Look at Culpepper. Even his physical talent didn’t help once they figured out what he couldn’t read.
I didn’t get what they were doing with TJack, but trade value makes sense, except he may have blown that. At least according to Rosenthal.

Yes, we didn’t like Cullpepper because he was nicknamed Daunte “fumbles” Cullpepper and his constant turnovers were impossible to deal with. Not only that, but once he lost Randy Moss, suddenly old “fumbles” couldn’t complete a pass.
We like Gus Ferrotte because he was better than Tavaris Jackson. Consequently, Gus took us to the playoffs, and then Jackson promptly got us knocked out of them.
Also, instead of using race as a crutch and calling the rest of the world racist whenever they call out an overrated black QB that isn’t getting the job done, perhaps you should stop being a racist yourself by supporting inferior QB’s just because they are black.
PS: I loved Warren Moon… but he was the last black QB the Vikings have had on their roster that was worth starting.

Jackson for 1.2 million a year is a good deal for the Vikings. Is he going to be a super star someday? I think we can confidently say no at this point.
However, he has a lot of experience in the Vikings system. He has a winning record and reasonable passer rating and other statistics. People that ridicule him for his body language and some of the mistakes he makes probably then ignore when he darts a 30 yard out off a roll out that most QB’s don’t have the athleticism to attempt.
Bottom line, he is a solid backup QB in this league. I’d rather have him back there than Brian Brohm obviously, and there are plenty of other backups you can say the same about.
People forget that Jackson’s main problem in this league has been getting injured. That has stunted his development. Well, that and he played like crap in his only playoff game.
Still, for 1.2 mil you get a capable backup QB with experience in your system who is a good team player. This is a nice deal for the Vikings. Fortunately TJack is so much of a system QB that no other team will ever be interested in him. His path begins and ends here in Minny, one way or the other.

It’s not a QBs job to mentor rookies. Those that do are either stupid or don’t care about their starting job.
Any way, even AR said himself that after his rookie season that Favre opened up to him and started mentoring him extensively.

Are you retarded? The only time Viking fans wanted Culpepper to be benched was when he threw 8 interceptions in the first 3 weeks of 2005. He played terribly, and didn’t get the axe until he was injured.
Brad Johnson played far better than him that year too.

Considering some of the washup’s and no names I’ve seen signed to be backups in this league I’m surprised no one was willing to grab a guy who is decent, and could be good in the right situation for only a third rounder. I mean, Jake Delhomme, that guy is washed up, and sounds like he’s gonna have a chance at a starting job?! I’d take T-Jax over him any day of the week.
Then again, I have never understood the psychotic value GM’s place on draft picks either, considering how many of them are busts.

I think it’s hilarious that people keep saying that TJoke has potential but just needs a couple of years to sit behind a veteran and learn.
That is the kind of thing people say about developmental rookies, and Tavaris Jokeson is three year veteran. If a three year veteran still has less skill than most rookies, like TJoke does currently, it’s time to move on. The guy just doesn’t have the mental abilities required to successfully play the position in the NFL, or in Division 1 college football for that matter.
Yeah, some people will come back with a quote about his passer rating or his “upside”, but the reality is that his passer rating is a false statistic in that when he has been playing, he has been put in position, via playcalling and being matched against selective opponents in preseason games, where his potential to make mistakes is virtually eliminated. Yet he keep making mistakes, huge ones.
The time has come for the Vikings, as an organization, to move on and get a QB that fans can believe in, or at least have hope in, when said QB is under center.

This is just bad journalism. While many will agree with you, you can’t, with any level of certainty, back up this claim. Did every team call the Vikings and tell them that they wouldn’t sign Jackson to an offer sheet at that compensation level? Did the Vikings then call you so you could finish this brilliant post?

Also, his career QB rating is 77.8 and he has thrown more TDs than INTs.
While the jury is still out on Jackson, he is still young and learning and has been pretty good for his lack of experience and maturity, especially consideriing he came from ALabama St. The Vikings aren’t going to be drafting a QB early this season, especially when their #2, or #1 guy, is only 26 and going into his 5th season AND has as much potential and production (in limited amount of work) as Jackson.

The kid has potential, hopefully Favre comes back this season and T-Jack will have two full seasons to sit behind him and learn. As much as I bash Green Bay, Im not delusional, Aaron Rodgers is a hell of a QB. Is that because he came from a better football background? Maybe. Or was it because he sat and learned what to do and NOT to do behind Favre? I think that if Jackson watches and learns this year again, it will help him exponentially. He’s only improving and he’ll be 27 this season, still plenty of time to become “the guy” for the franchise.

If you think about it, if the Vikings were going to really have Jackson as their backup option for Favre, would they wouldn’t have dangled him out there for other teams to attempt to sign for a mere 3rd pick.
The reality is that Sage Rosenfels is a thousand times the QB that TJoke will ever be, and frankly, if TJoke ever ends up under center at any point in the future, the Vikings will lose, and the fans will lose heart… just like they did when he took over for the playoff game in 2009 versus the Eagles after the play of Gus Ferrotte got the Vikings into the playoffs in the first place.

I am a little puzzled as to why nobody else would’ve signed him. I still think the Vikings (as a team) would be better off with him than Brett. I think this is the year he gets another chance.
