If the lions can get this guy to remember his route on more than 5 plays, it will be an upgrade.

What it means is that the Eagles were desperate for some linebacking help. Believe me, Sims is not as good as advertised. He’s a liability in the passing game, over-pursues on a regular basis, and looks for the big hit rather than wrapping up. He can’t negotiate traffic all that well, and isn’t a very effective blitzer against a RB that can pass block with any level of effectiveness.
Sheffler somehow got on the wrong side of McDaniels, and it seems just about any player capable of offensive production not drafted by Josh has been targeted for dismissal or trade. Sheffler is insurance for the Lions to allow Brandon Pettigrew to fully heal, while still having a deep threat from off the line. Heller is our strong blocker, and Dan Gronkowski is the developmental player. The Lions seem to be moving in the direction of an Indianapolis type offense, with the rare use of a FB, as opposed to using two TE sets and motion of the TEs to set up mismatches in the passing game or along the line for the running game. Denver moves up in the draft from the seventh to the fifth round, and the Lions get another late round pick in hopes of developing a young player for depth (ala Gronkowski and Zack Follet from the last draft).
Or perhaps the Lions will possibly trade Sheffler during the draft to a team that misses out on a top shelf pass catching TE? Possible, but not probable. But still possible.

Davis is younger than Pettigrew but Cooley is older than Scheffler. Get your facts straight.
Also, Pettigrew has all of the tools to become better than all three of the other guys if he recovers from his ACL injury properly. Cooley needs to come back from injury as well so I think it’s pretty close.

Clearly the Lions have given up on defense. The WR strategy didn’t pan out so now they are taking a stab at the finesse TE strategy. Intriguing is not the word I would use.
All the Meyhew supporters might want to ease up. nothing he has done has panned out or resulted in W’s on sunday yet. There isn’t a noticeable difference in talent level on this team yet. To put that is perspective Joey Harrington had more wins in his first season than Stafford did.

Ernie Sims has a ton of talent, but very questionable decision making.
He traded in a Lamborghini Gallardo for a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640. Picked up his new Lambo and decided it was a good time to take it to the nudie bar a couple hours after picking it up.
He left the nudie and crashed into a highway concrete divider whilst trying to hot rod the new car. Causing roughly 200k in damage to the car.
He then proceeded to claim he was not the owner yet as his check had not been deposited.
Once legal action was threatened he then took accountability and sold the car to a wholesaler as is. In other words, he apparently didnt even have it insured yet.
It is items like this that make the reasoning all the more viable for why the Lions let him go.
Great trade for the Lions.

Ok, I looked – he had a solid game(6 catches, 101 yards, 1 TD) and when you take it out of the equation for the year, he had 25 catches for 315 yards and a TD in the other 15 games. Not exactly an eye-popping effort overall.

Yah I’d have to the say the skins tightend tandem is more promising then the lions. Dallas also has a great tandem too. Actually the 49ers have one too it’s just walker isn’t very well known.
Funny thing about the skins tight ends is they are already proven and both are actually younger then the guys on the lions to compare them. Cooley has more then twice as many yards and is younger the sheffler and davis is going into his 3rd season and is younger then pettigrew.

The Lions fans who are upset about this trade HAVE NO CLUE.
The Lions got the best deal of the 3 teams.
Sims was gone anyway after this season. In 1 year they get nothing for him.
And it’s pretty obvious the Lions made this move with a replacement idea in mind.

Whatever, Mayhew has already acquired in 2 offseasons more talent than Millen did in FA and the draft in 8 years. So what if Sims was a first rounder. The evidence is in and he sucks, like 99% of all Millen picks do/did. He’s not worth a 1st round trade value anymore and was gone after this year anyways. We got a decent player and another pick for him, instead of just cutting him loose after another injury-riddled and unproductive season.

Correction… the Bengals did not pass on Scheffler because they didn’t want him. They passed because Mike Brown did not want to PAY him.

The one thing you left out that we learned from this trade is that the Broncos obviously didn’t have any interest in Sims, or there would have been no need to involve a 3rd team. So that shows you how far his stock has fallen.
