Leak of Steelers schedule puts Saints game against World Series

With fewer than three hours remaining until the NFL drops the sheet on the 2010 schedule, count on multiple leaks to be sprung.

For starters, one of the Pittsburgh radio stations that broadcasts Steelers games on radio has posted the team’s entire schedule.

According to WDVE, the Steelers host the Falcons on September 12.  On September 19, the Steelers play at Tennessee.  The next Sunday, at Tampa.  Then, they host the Ravens before taking a bye.

The bye would be conveniently timed, if quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is suspended four games.

On October 17, the Steelers host Cleveland.  Then, it’s off to Miami.

Next comes a Sunday night game on October 31, at New Orleans.  And that’s a significant date because it likely conflicts with one of the early games of the World Series.

In unrelated news, Bud Selig’s head just exploded.

The following Monday, it’s off to Cincinnati, capping three straight road games.

Next comes a Sunday night visit from the Patriots, followed by a return trip from the Raiders to Pittsburgh.

On November 28, the Steelers go to Buffalo, a week before traveling to Baltimore for a Sunday night game, which in theory would be subject to flexing.  The next Sunday, the Bengals come to town.

The season wraps with a visit from Santonio Holmes and the Jets, a Thursday night game against the Panthers, and finally a road trip to Cleveland.  Those last two games mesh with prior reports suggesting that the Penguins will host the Capitals on January 1 at Heinz Field.

Whether the schedule is legit remains to be seen.  The league typically tries to avoid putting a team on the road for three straight games.  We’ll know whether WDVE has nailed it come 7:00 p.m. E.T.

UPDATE:  The best evidence it’s legit?  The schedule has been wiped off the page in question, replaced only with the words, “Schedule Coming Soon!

SECOND UPDATE:  The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has released the schedule, too.  Their link is not dead.  Yet.

Ben suspened for Atl, Tenn, TB and BALT! That a 3-1 start without him!!!

  2. P-Slice says: Apr 20, 2010 4:29 PM

Good, it will give me something to watch. Watching baseball is akin to watching paint dry on wall. BORING.

  3. tygr20 says: Apr 20, 2010 4:29 PM

I thought I’d read Ben’s suspension, if for 4 games, would be 4 games, rather than just 4 weeks? Wouldn’t make any sense for Rog to suspend him for games 1-3 and then a bye, would it?

  4. JoeSchmoe says: Apr 20, 2010 4:30 PM

I’m pretty sure there aren’t too many Pirate fans giving a shit about this seeing as of the 23 that there are, they aren’t looking to pre-order and Series tix and got all bummed out about this conflict. And N.O.? There is NO baseball team down there period, aside from minor leagues… kinda like what this site is in the sports world. LOL. Just kiddin Flo!

  5. Mr Krinkle says: Apr 20, 2010 4:31 PM

If the Pirates make it to the World Series Steelers fans have some serious decision making to do.

  6. mann1976 says: Apr 20, 2010 4:32 PM

why would steelers or saints fans care about the world series? the pirates suck and there is no baseball in new orleans

  7. Naptown20 says: Apr 20, 2010 4:32 PM

Either there was a typo or they really got the schedule wrong, but the Steelers certainly don’t HOST the ravens twice.

  8. dcsilverthorn says: Apr 20, 2010 4:33 PM

so they host balt twice?? which date is wrong?

  9. MidMonster1 says: Apr 20, 2010 4:34 PM

Too late, they’ve already pulled it from the site!

  10. patpatriotagain says: Apr 20, 2010 4:36 PM

i believe a 4 game suspension is just that. it’s not a four WEEK suspension.

  11. CE11 says: Apr 20, 2010 4:36 PM

They only play the bengals once huh Florio?

  12. stoniey says: Apr 20, 2010 4:37 PM

  13. roadkill says: Apr 20, 2010 4:37 PM

What a mess. How could the NFL so deliberately screw with the Pirates’ postseason audience like that?

  14. PittsburghSteelerz says: Apr 20, 2010 4:38 PM

    Good job, Florio.

DVE has already yanked the schedule.

  15. patpatriotagain says: Apr 20, 2010 4:38 PM

i’m pretty sure the pirates won’t be in the world series, and i’m pretty sure pittsburgh will suck again, who cares?

    1st you say:
According to WDVE, the Steelers host the Falcons on September 12. On September 19, the Steelers play at Tennessee. The next Sunday, at Tampa. Then, they host the Ravens before taking a bye.
    Then you say:
On November 28, the Steelers go to Buffalo, a week before hosting the Ravens in a Sunday night game, which in theory would be subject to flexing.
So the NFL is giving the Steelers 2 games @ home against the Ravens during the regular season? I know the NFL hates Baltimore, but that’s absurd & blatant!!

  17. NFLFan says: Apr 20, 2010 4:39 PM

So the reward for a team that does not make the playoffs and has multiple players with off field “problems” is FIVE prime time games???? Goddell is full of #$*^ when he talks about the player conduct policies and how it reflects on the league. What a joke.

  18. Bald Raven says: Apr 20, 2010 4:40 PM

They get to host TWO games against the Ravens? Seem a bit unfair to me.

I don’t follow baseball, but for some reason didn’t think the NFL played on the Sunday night opposite the World Series. Oh well, condolences to Mr. Selig’s family. Hope his exploding head didn’t make a big mess.

  37. DeBoe says: Apr 20, 2010 4:57 PM

Baseball at the end of October into November is so wrong. The Series should be done by Oct 20, no later.
I’m hoping for a Pirates vs. Twins World Series. Maybe that would be a sport where a MN team could actually beat a Pittsburgh based team.

  38. realitypolice says: Apr 20, 2010 4:58 PM

    I call BS…………..
From Wikipedia (and easily verifiable from a hundred other sources):
“As part of its contract with the NFL NBC does not air a Sunday night game for one week in late October or early November, so as not to conflict with Fox’s coverage of the World Series.”
Five seconds on Google would have saved Florio posting an obviously untrue rumor.
See how little he cares about getting it right?

  44. funi says: Apr 20, 2010 5:08 PM

The Balt game in Dec on Sunday night is at Balt. Balt does not want to play in pitt in primetime. Steelers def will destroy Atl, Tenn TB and hold Balt in a low scoring game. If Dixon can take balt to OT in balt last year 3-1 or 4-0 is a great possibility, with that def!

  45. Cincinnasty says: Apr 20, 2010 5:08 PM

Wow the post gazette cannot spell Cincinnati… It seems a little unfair the Steelers are getting 5 prime time games too (after a horrible last year and all the off field problems)…Well at least the league got it right by pinning Cincinnati and Baltimore against each other in the final game of the year seeing it will be the most meaningful game within the division..

And also conveniently for a Benless Steelers, 3 of those first 4 opponents are not top tier teams.

  51. Burghman says: Apr 20, 2010 5:11 PM

The schedule should now be prima facie evidence No. 1 that the reason for the delay in the schedule is that the commissioner had to reconfigure the schedule based on Ben Roethlisberger. The fact that the Steelers do not have a primetime game in the first 7 weeks is unprecedented. The Steelers bring more viewers than any other team in the league and the NFL has a history of building momentum with the Steelers.
    For example:
    2009 2 of 4 Sunday/Thurs night games in the first 4 weeks.
    2008 3 of 5 Sunday/Mon night games in the first 5 weeks
2007 1 of 7 Sunday night game in first 7 weeks
    2006
    2006 3 of 5 Thurs/Sun./Mon night games in first 5 weeks.

“Our” women? So you’re claiming ownership? How Neanderthal of you!
BTW, it was YOUR district attorney who said YOUR woman, Ms. DTF, chased the QB from bar to bar, that there was plenty of blame to go around, that he hope she and her drunken sorority sisters learned something, and that the results of the rape kit were negative–meaning there was no rape. I’m a Southern girl, but my Georgia-born grandmother taught me to act like I have some self-worth. Guess things have changed in Georgia.

4 games, bye, 2 games, then NO

  55. Philly Cheese says: Apr 20, 2010 5:23 PM

  59. NateD says: Apr 20, 2010 5:32 PM

Wait, so football isnt played in April? The way all of these haters are acting I could have sworn the NFL started the regular season this week.
For Steeler Nation — we will be fine. We added a lot of nice depth this off season even before one of the deepest drafts ever. I think the front office will make 1 more FA move and that is to bring back Leftwich. Tomlin loved him and he played a perfect role as emergency #2 QB in 08′. They always have 4 QB’s in camp and this year they will need additional help with Ben being out at least 2-4 games. Batch is basically just a coach now anyways so he doesnt care. Ben/ Dixon/ Leftwich is best QB trio in the league.

  60. Cincinnasty says: Apr 20, 2010 5:36 PM

That is because MNF is no longer the marquee weekly game. Sunday Night Football is the game of the week and has first choice. MNF has a quoto of teams that need to be showed.
