Could be you played the two biggest choke artist of the playoffs in this decade…Chargers and Bengals.
and no, Pats fans aren’t going crazy for this signing, but it’s a need position to fill. Bill is looking to rebuild that lockerroom, however he should’ve made that trade for Boldin. Young great WR and a very solid lockerroom guy.
LT is not that and the Jets let a better man walk and gave LT similar $$$, that’s what we are laughing about…
The draft is going to make or break the next run for the Pats, not free agency. Last year’s class doesn’t look to bad as Butler, Chung, Vollmer, Pryor all look to become solid starting contributors. Deep draft this year so they really need to come out with 2-3 starters out of this draft as well.
And that Pats fan above who is saying that the Fins and Jets are now better because of this doesn’t understand the ups and downs of an NFL season…stupid pink hats.

I too checked the record books; none mentioned anything about cheating, all confirmed 3 Super Bowl titles, a 16-0 2007 Regular season; longest winning streak…..what record book were you referring to, coz?

While not crazy about the Holt signing, its still miles better than the LT signing. I’d be pissed if LT landed on my teams roster. Pissed.
Of course. that signing was all about the Jets selling PSL’s and nothing else. As a Jets fan you should be upset about that but hey you scumbags embraced Favre too and actually bought Jets #4 shirts. How fricken embarassing is that? Despicable losers.

Nice. Two vets and three young WRs. Should be perfectly fine until Welker comes back, especially if Tate is ready. Very low risk.
Gotta love the bandwagon fans who are starting to abandon the NE philosophy. For years they get criticized when they sign vets, and now they are being criticized for not making major deals before the draft. Everyone is panicking because the Jets and Miami are making huge moves in the off season.
Why would the Patriots do that? They made the playoffs last year and were clearly the best team in the AFC East. Sure, they have some major holes right now, but the off season is not the place to address them this year.
The reason is the draft. This is looking like it should be the best draft since 1983. The Pats are placed perfectly to do extremely well in this draft. They have the most picks in the early rounds, and no one has more picks overall. The thing to do is NOT give those away for players right now. Instead it is time to make sure the team is set for the next 5-10 years. Next year’s draft will be much weaker with all the underclassmen coming out this year, but the Patriots have TWO first rounders next year, including the Raider’s pick, which should be top 10.
The Pats can move anywhere in this draft if they need to, with 12 picks to trade this year, and two first rounders next year. I would not be surprised to see the Pats bundle their first round pick next year (and something else) to make an early pick this year and pick up someone to solidify their defense. Then they will pick up more defense, and a tight end, then best player available, maybe even a QB to learn under Brady (who can’t last forever).
I think you see the Pats set themselves up to be a competitive playoff team for the foreseeable future this week. Unlike the Jets and Miami who are sacrificing everything for a shot at this year’s Superbowl. It has been shown over and over that signing everyone on the planet is not the way to go. The Jets could easily become the Redskins. I look forward to seeing them implode mid season. No way you can keep all those egos in check when your coach has a huge ego himself, and no discipline to even control himself.

The difference between Holt and Galloway is Holt is a precise route runner.
To play WR for TB, he needs to know that you are in the right spot which is why Galloway, Chad Jackson, Bethel Johnson etc no longer play for the NE Pats. Welker is a great route runner and Brady knows where he’ll be at all times.
I thought Holt would end up in NE not in Chicago.

Pats biggest problems last year were execution on defense and even moreso on offense and their lockerroom dynamics sucked bigtime. Holt is a great route runner and a good example for young’uns. That’s all I can say about this right now because we have no idea how it will work out.

Anyone who thinks that Holt is not an upgrade over the pupu platter of Aiken, Stanbeck, and Patten is full of it.
Ideally, however, 2nd year guy Tate develops and the combination of Tate, Holt, and Edelman together solidly hold down the 2 spots in the base 3 WR set (with Moss) until Wes Welker is 100%.
It would still be nice to draft another potential playmaker, with Moss entering a contract year.

he’s not supposed to be a lead WR people, just a 3rd option he had 51 catches for 700 yards last year. that’s good enough to fill the Jabar Gaffney/Donte Stallworth role. All he has to do is draw some heat off of Moss and Welker/Edelman and he’s well worth 1.5 mil.

Holt still has ability left and will be a good #2 WR. Best veteran pickup out of any AFC East signing thus far. his hands, although disgustingly mangled, are still great.

34 isn’t that old for a wide receiver who knows the game like Holt does. He may not have the speed he used to, but he’s an excellent route runner. The numbers he put up last year were very impressive considering David Garrard was his quarterback. A lot of Hall of Fame wide receivers played much older than 34; and I think Holt will be a Hall of Fame receiver.

He caught more than 50 balls last season, so he’s not exactly a washed-up signing. He will be valuable as the Pats wait for Welker to return. I think this is a much better signing that the Galloway pickup last year. It also saves the Pats from spending one of their first four picks on a WR… they already have young talent at this position.

low risk. One year 1.7 million to see if he has legs still. Not a ground breaking signing, but it cant hurt.
The WR corps is Moss, Edleman, and Aiken right now.
Welker and Tate are hurt and cannot be counted on to make a contribution, at least not at the begining of the season. And Patten will be cut in training camp.
I dont see the hard in signing a guy who caught over 50 balls and 700 yards last season. I would have rather had him than Aiken towards the end of the season.
