Art Rooney: We don't discuss trade talk

On a conference call with reporters (and whatever you call PFT writers) Wednesday, Steelers president Art Rooney II once again did not deny that Ben Roethlisberger was available in a trade.

Instead, he said the team doesn’t discuss trade talk.

And while that’s a logical non-answer, the Steelers would be happy to deny trade talks if there weren’t any trade talks occurring.  We know now there have been plenty of conversations.

Rooney’s message on the call was clear.  He supports the NFL’s decision to suspend Roethlisberger and called the discipline “appropriate.”   He said the decision was Roger Goodell’s to make more than once.

“We recognize the Commisioner’s authority to act in this area. . . .  It is a commissioner’s decision, but in this case we had an opportunity to have input in what was going to happen.”

Rooney was on the phone call with Goodell when Roethlisberger was informed of the suspension.  Rooney believes that Big Ben’s intent is to “follow the program the commish sets out.”

Rooney later added “The market on Super Bowl winning quarterbacks who show all the symptoms of being a sexual predator isn’t as strong as one might think”.

Ben Roethelisberger is a filthy, drunken rapist.
He needs the Clockwork Orange treatment.

Florio – so when are you replacing the Day With an Arrest Counter with the Hours without a Roethlisberger Post? This is seriously ridiculous.

  5. 8man says: Apr 21, 2010 3:25 PM

Incredible that he’s fallen this far that the Steelers want to jetison him.
Even more incredible, apparently no one wants him.

I sure will be glad when the draft is over so I dont have to hear anymore of the BS.

  11. robert ethan says: Apr 21, 2010 3:30 PM

But we do trade disgust talk, and we’re trying to see if there is some team out there less disgusted with Roethlisberger than we are.

No guessing. He’s not going anywhere.

I bet he would just love to go to bed at night with Fat Ben being someone else’s problem child.

I hear there’s no truth to the rumor that Roethlisberger got an extra game for the mullet.

  15. Omart Rooney says: Apr 21, 2010 3:36 PM

Why Ben? Why draw attention to yourself like this? What reason did you possibly have to bring this upon yourself? Absolutely rediculous.

  18. insanity23mike says: Apr 21, 2010 3:38 PM

Vikings take him if Favre doesnt come back right?
Ben grew up a 49ers fan in Ohio so he must hate the Raiders/Cowboys

  19. Ravens Macg says: Apr 21, 2010 3:40 PM

Need a new counter: Days without lil ben exposing himself or assaulting someone. This 6 games suspension is a joke on society. If a regular guy has done what this douche bag has he would’ve been in jail!!!

  20. Ace613 says: Apr 21, 2010 3:41 PM

You have to think about this too (and I am in no way a steeler fan), its kinda obviously Ben is on the trading block, so if the Steelers cant work out a trade what does this do to Ben when he does come back (knowing that they tried to trade him and a bunch of teams that need a QB dont want him), to go along with the chant Rapistburger whenever the Steelers are on the road. I think he will never be the same player.

  21. DeVoodoo says: Apr 21, 2010 3:44 PM

Nobody has even really touched on the fact that Rapehishamburger was on track for the HOF. A QB with two Super Bowl wins? That’s an incredibly rare feat. But there is NO WAY he has any chance at Canton now.

  22. Verbal Kint says: Apr 21, 2010 3:46 PM

If I had the choice of watching Ben die a slow, painful, fiery death, or having a 3-way with Miranda Kerr and Candice Swanepoel, I guess I’d go with the 3-way.
But I’d be thinking of Ben the whole time.
    Wait.
    dammit.

  23. Jaso says: Apr 21, 2010 3:52 PM

It will be hard for Pitt to go 12-4 when they will lose their first 6 games.

  24. steelersmichele says: Apr 21, 2010 4:04 PM

so if the Rooneys trade him, will all the Steelers haters who have bashed the team for keeping a so-called “rapist” on the roster come back and praise the organization for taking a moral stand and getting rid of a player with such a negative reputation?
I don’t think so–which means the Steeler haters just hate the Steelers period. Doesn’t matter who is on the team. Interesting…. so then why pretend to be so moral?

Or you go 6-10 at best and you fall flat on your face as expected!!! Your team is going to be garbage this year. You’ll be lucky to win a game against the Bengals and I bet you even lose to the Brownies…
    Pitt sucks…
And the dynasty is over and will forever be over. Welcome to the Flacco-era

  26. GirthyOne says: Apr 21, 2010 4:30 PM

Ravens Macg, I understand you hate the Steelers. If a regular guy has done what Roethlisberger did, not only wouldn’t there have been charges filed, nobody would be ragging on him for anything either.
Art Rooney is a pansy. He should have told the commissioner to go F himself when he brought up a suspension.
Dictator Goodell. Nice. Once again I will state, power corrupts. Also, the Union isn’t worth spit.
If a person was a real scumbag, they could get a bunch of gals to say that opposing players served them beer and assaulted them. Then they can get a bunch of guys suspended from opposing teams.

  27. robert ethan says: Apr 21, 2010 5:14 PM

“I support every decision of Mr. Goodell”, gushed Art Part Two, “he’s such a forceful man, and handsome too. It would have been exciting to hear the conversation between him and Big Ben who can be quite forceful himself. Goodness gracious, I’m sure my ears would be burning…tee hee…”.

  28. marcman says: Apr 21, 2010 7:00 PM

Raven aren’t even a concern…Old and tired Defense and a Vanilla offense….oh no, its the big bad Ravens,lmao……..
