Cowboys interested in trade with 49ers for 13th overall pick

With 30 hours to go before the NFL draft begins, trade rumors are heating up. And the latest has the Dallas Cowboys interested in acquiring the 13th overall pick from the San Francisco 49ers.

Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat reports that the Cowboys are interested in moving up to 13 to select defensive back Earl Thomas of Texas.

Most mock drafts have Thomas still available at 13 but gone before the Cowboys pick at 27, so if the Cowboys are enamored with Thomas, moving up to 13 would make sense.

The 49ers could also take Thomas at 13 themselves, although most reports indicate they’re more interested in Florida’s Joe Haden there.

  1. Yet another golden oppertunity for Dallas to screw up another draft, bet they wish The Tuna was still around!

  2. Doubt it. Probably just misinformation to convince the Eagles that they have to move up to the 10-12 range to get Thomas. Seems too convenient that they are trading for the pick right after the ones the Eagles are rumored to be interested in.

  3. There’s always the chance that Miami takes Earl Thomas at #12. That is less likely now, as the departure of Jason Taylor probably ensures the drafting of an outside linebacker or a hybrid DE/OLB project.

  4. What if Miami picks Thomas at #12? Miami does need a safety. Maybe Dallas should move to #12 in stead of #13…..and Miami can get that 2nd round pick back from trading for Brandon “The Beast” Marshall.

  6. It would take way too much to move up that high. Thomas isnt worth that kind of move. Prediction if Dez Bryant gets past Denver at 11 and drops to 25 to Baltimore, moving up will be considered. If not Cowboys trade down or take an OL.
BTW I believe Florio goes to rotoworld.com and then posts info, seems like they have it a good hour before he posts it.

  7. Why doesn’t Dallas trade up to 10 with Jacksonville… They could still get Earl Thomas and Jacksonville would add a pick in the draft and be able to draft Teblow @ 27 ???

  8. This move wouldn’t make much sense. According to the trade chart the Cowboys need to give up about 480 points. That’s equal their current 2nd & 3rd round picks.
Why would they give up that much when they can still get Taylor Mays at #27

  9. If the OTs are all gone, a trade down would be spectacular for SF. I wouldn’t be upset if they dropped back and grabbed Charles Brown somewhere in the 20’s. They could still potentially get a guy like Iupati, Pouncey, Kyle Wilson, at 17.

  13. Dallas could trade up to #10 with Jacksonville. The jags could draft Tebow @ 27 and pick up an additional pick or player… Dallas could get Earl Thomas ahead of Miami who could pick him @ 11

  21. Cowboys give up a 5th for Rape-s-burger, and trade Romo to SF to move up! There’s enough trim in Texas that even Big Ben wouldn’t need a police escort to ambush some woman.

  22. I would like this trade if the Niners get draft choices; as stated in the blog entry, the Cowboys second round, #59 overall, and third round, #90 overall, choices. The Niners don’t need Cowboy rejects, they need more good young players to help build a winner.

  23. I hope the Eagles out-maneuver the cowpies and snag him. Why? Because Dallas sucks and he would have a far better career in Philly. That’s why, knuckleheads.

  24. Why doesn’t Dallas trade up to 10 with Jacksonville… They could still get Earl Thomas and Jacksonville would add a pick in the draft and be able to draft Teblow @ 27 ???

  26. Earl Thomas is a BEAST especially with ken hamlin gone?….oh yeah…i hope it happens

  27. What are the Cowboys offering? Idk what they are willingly to part with that we need. The 49ers could just stock pile picks but it seems like they would be better off to use their two first rounders.

  28. ….and with the 12th pick in the 2010 draft, the Miami Dolphins select Earl Thomas, safety, University of Texas. And wait, there’s a little middle finger drawn on the card with a note to the Dallas Cowboys!

  29. Don’t believe that if the Cowboys want to move up that high, they woud not do it with Parcells and the Phins since they (by all reports) want to move back and pick an additional pick or two. Besides, Jerry owes Parcells for that comment he made in the video, so its time to make it right and overpay somewhat for this trade.

  30. an odd spot to want to trade up to….considering that Earl Thomas would make perfect sense for the Dolphins at #12.

  31. wouldn’t it make more sense for the cowboys to move up to 17? i don’t see seattle, ny giants, or tennessee taking earl thomas. if they moved up to 17, san fran could take joe haden (who would go to seattle at 14 undoubtedly) and dallas could grab thomas before houston could at 20.

  32. They just had a story talking about how Jones said they would stay put with their 27th pick! Jones can’t help but be Jones!

  33. With the gaping hole at FS, I wouldn’t overlook the Dolphins taking Earl Thomas with the 12th overall pick. My best guess is they will pick him or Derrick Morgan if he is still available.

  34. Dallas would probably have to trade their 2nd and 3rd to move up to #13. Dallas would only be left with 4 picks. #13, then Rd. 4, Rd. 6 and Rd. 7. Dallas desperately needs a safety, though. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this trade happen.

  35. Doubt it. Probably just misinformation to convince the Eagles that they have to move up to the 10-12 range to get Thomas. Seems too convenient that they are trading for the pick right after the ones the Eagles are rumored to be interested in.

  36. I would jump for joy if my beloved Cowboys made this trade as long as they made the 2nd rd pick for next years draft. earl thomas is the ball hawk the boys need for their blitzing defense. instant upgrade over ken hamlin.

  37. If miami doesnt trade down, they are taking Thomas if he is there, chalk it up…..then picking up that fireplug NT from Georgia on saturday.

  38. Did you even read the article Florio?!?!
Giving up a second and a third to move up 14 spots in the first? Yea right…dream on niner fans…we might as well give up a 1st 3rd and 5th for Roy Williams
    FML

  39. Don’t do it. SF needs impact players now and I don’t think they fill their needs dropping back that far.

  40. Aren’t there any razorback players that Jerruh can pick?
The Cowboys are America’s team, however, the Texans are Texas’ team[yes, we Texans fans force-feed entitled Cowboys’ fans this bit of gregarious machismo DAILY]. Let the Longhorn stay pure & Texan, instead of selling his soul to the evil Skeletor that runs the Cowboys. He’ll only end up shooting up a strip club, coked out, or with hundreds of pounds of pot in his trunk in Dallas.
and thanks for the memories, Earl. Hook’Em!

  41. The Cowboys try to crash the party every year. Not surprised. Bottom line: stories like this are so stupid. No team is actually gonna come out and say who they want to anyone before the draft. It’s just stupid. Some teams go so far as to spew lies about their intents. Stop posting speculative garbage.

  42. Well as long as we’re not giving up to much its a good trade maybe we can give them our first and Carpenter for it

  43. Maybe they can trade Hershel Walker to the 49ers for the pick. I think if the niners can get demarcus ware they should make the deal.

  44. 49ers need an OT, a QB (most likely), and secondary help.
I can’t see SF wanting to move but the Seahawks might.

  45. Matt: If the 9ers do trade the 13th pick to the cowboys what do you see the 9ers getting in return? and do you see it happening.

  46. The 49ers need a top OT to solidify the right side of the line. So the deal wouldn’t make sense for the 49ers unless the Top-4 OTs are gone.

  47. Cowboys will take Thomas if available and if not they get a better LT than they would have at 27.

Are you an idiot? Besides last years draft (most got injured before camp) the Cowboys have drafted very well under Wade Phillips. Anthony Spencer, Felix Jones, Martellus Bennett, Doug Free, Tashard Choice, Orlando Scandrick, David Buehler, Mike Jenkins…I think you get the point

  49. Glad to see that no one here as any football knowledge, let alone any basic knowledge.
Screw the cowgirls? Let those pricks stay where they are?
Just because your team of choice sucks, must you really exert energy into hating a team that happens to be better than yours, if not only currently but most definitely historically?
    That must suck.
I could give a rats ass what the eagles or redskins or browns or whatever perennial loser you chumps root for. You click on a Cowboys story just to hate? Wow
I dont click on anything that doesn’t concern Dallas or the NFL in general. I dont have time to waste hating on some sh!t team such as the Dolphins or Bills.

  50. the cowboys are gonna package barber & their pick + whatever else it takes.
This means Eagles gotta get in with the dolphins or denver if they are indeed trying to move up. The word is they want safety help, but who really sees them moving into the top 7 or higher for Berry. Thomas is more sensible & rated as high or better.
I see the Cowboys makin moves & the Ealges not pulling the trigger. but watchem move outta the first round all together

  51. that seems like something the cowboys owner woould do[like giving the farm away for roy willy],but it seems to me,if they wanted to get aggresive, why not get aggresive enough to get a LEFT TACKLE,just my opinion, the OT is biggest and most important need,so goes to say that jerrah jones will not be targeting that position[too obvious i guess]

  52. The cowboys need OLINE help. Tony BLOWMO watches the pass rush to much. Come to MINN.again for the playoffs PLEASE.VIKES RULE

  53. Too bad the Eagles are going to trade up to #12 and snag him first…cry you little cowgirls!!

“Not sure what they would offer- Hurd is a decent asset but SF seems deep at WR already.”
You gotta be kidding right, Hurd for a 1st? Lmao yeah okay buddy….Only way the 49ers make this trade is if it’s for Ware and a 1st or 2nd next year, and you know they aren’t trading Ware…keep it moving cowgirls

The Steelers would love to trade Ben for SF’s pick!
    —————————————————–
Works for me as long as rapistburger keeps his pants on. They still need an OT though. Montana and Young would’ve been unsuccessful too with the coaches and roster they’ve had the past 10 years

  56. JJ is going to wheel and deal to get a stud at safety whether through the draft of a veteran. He is loading up for a SB run as we are stacked once a couple positions are shored up.
Look out NFL….my boys will be playing home in the SB and winnning it all. I know all you haters are going to love this lost but check back with me after the SB. LMFAO.
    HOW BOUT THOSE COWOBYS!!!!

  57. trust me, its not earl thomas they want at 13….the war room here is going nuts….a deal is not close, but we are also talking with teams in the 15-18 range

  58. Hey Philly peter cheese, just think of all the butt whopping the eagles will endure under Kolb or Kolbe or who ever he is. I think you will get a better draft pick next year.

  59. Thomas won’t fall past Cleveland if Berry is gone before 7.
Jones better get Holmgren on the phone…

  60. downsouth49er,
you want Ware for your 13th pick? You sire, are a Moron!!
If you gave all your picks of 2010 draft that still doesn’t equal Ware’s value

  61. “Yet another golden oppertunity for Dallas to screw up another draft, bet they wish The Tuna was still around!”
Yeah they could sure use 4 crappy offensive lineman and some JAG whose dad used to play for Parcells back in the day. 0-3gle fans shouldn’t be talking about other teams screwing up draft picks, the 0-3gles haven’t made a decent first round pick since the 80’s.

  62. “The Cowboys are America’s team, however, the Texans are Texas’ team”
Get real. The Texans are barely Houston’s team. If he goes to Houston he’ll just end up in a parking lot with a sack full of weed and a cup full of purple drank.

  63. @downsouth49er you’ve got that completely backwards. In the completely hypothetical situation that would trade Ware to S.F., it would take S.F.’s 1st this year, probably 2nd, and an additional middle-high round pick. (If not a little more)

  64. @boysroll
As long as Tony Homo is under center (and who knows who else he’s under for that matter), your cowpukes will suck…again. Hey boysroll, ever hear of spell check? Your posts are fodder for every elementary school english teacher!
    BOYS BLOW!!
    LMFAO!

  65. Wait, The cowboys are actually doing something this year to draw attention? Wow, I was begining to wonder if they were going to play football this year.
If they move up and Draft ET, the Critics will go nuts. I believe we will all hear that it will then be possible for the cowboys to win the superbowl “Twice” this year! Sigh!

  66. 90. .Vox Veritas. says:

You still try to say this same baloney. Do you even know who plays for the Cowboys on any given day, let alone year?

  67. Extra RBs in Dallas. Hmmm?
    ——————————
u could have 10 rb’s on your roster, we have frank gore better than your three combined, we dont want your trash

  68. Gotta love the Beagle Fans, they have already forgot the 3 Texas Style Ass Whoopins, the Cowboys put on them, Well, guess what.. at least 2 more coming this year.

  69. Trade or no trade, the 49ers will end the season 7-9 in one of the weakest divisions in the history of the NFL.

  70. Idk why we would trade for Ware. Don’t get me wrong he’s good but it just seems like both teams would be worse off. Like the Pats trading Seymore to the raiders.
