McNabb denies he wants to be reunited with Owens

On Tuesday morning ESPN’s Ed Werder and Sal Paolantonio reported that Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb wants to be reunited with wide receiver Terrell Owens.

Later on Tuesday, McNabb told ESPN’s Rachel Nichols and Michael Wilbon that Werder and Paolantonio are wrong.

“I never said that to anyone about T.O. It’s just not true,” McNabb is quoted as telling Nichols in an story that carries Werder and Paolantonio’s bylines. “I’m in a new place, trying to get comfortable, not start anything or push for anything. I am very happy with the receivers I have.”

According to the Washington Post, McNabb also told Wilbon that he has not encouraged the Redskins to sign Owens and is not interested in reuniting with him.

Still, Werder and Paolantonio write that multiple sources confirmed the subject has been discussed. It may be that McNabb broached the subject but hopes the subject will go away now that Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has closed the door on it.

Or maybe he never said it. Sal Pal is an idiot. He’s the one who was positive McNabb would be a Raider, according to his so called sources. How’d that turn out?

  2. GirthyOne says: Apr 21, 2010 8:30 AM

Of course he wants some WR help. Did anyone look at the WRs he has there. Moss is the only decent one and he should never be considered a number 1.

  3. Hoogs3 says: Apr 21, 2010 8:30 AM

Mcnabb is just a little confused in his old age. He needs to take whatever farve is taking to remember certain things. Mcnabb is the guy who did not know about the O.T. rule……

You folks in D.C. are gonna get sick of this fast. Typical McNabb

McNabb said he didn’t say he wanted T.O. on the Skins…..End of story!

Ed Werder is another “Steer & Queer” Cowboy fan! Were I Ed Werder I’d write a piece on all the playoff games the Dallas Cowboys have won over the last 15 years…it would be a very short story!

  8. Mooch says: Apr 21, 2010 8:41 AM

Because “he’s the leader of this team”.
Ask him. He’ll tell ya. Repeatedly.
I am telling you, McNabb cannot coexist with star players, especially at WR. He had a poor relationship with Owens and was well on his way to having a bad relationship with Desean Jackson.
Granted star WR’s are nuts, but McNabb is particularly ill-suited to handle them.

“I can appreciate Donovan wanting his friend back,” Shanahan told ESPN’s Trey Wingo on the network’s schedule-release show, “but we made a decision as an organization not to go in that direction.”
So Mike Shanahan thinks or knows that Donovan said he wanted TO back, and now McNabb has to back track as to not offend or alienate anyone on his current team.
McNabb has provided the line “I am very happy with the receivers we have” since the days of Charles Johnson & Torrance Small, so I believe Shanahan over McNabb at this point.

  11. HarrisonHits says: Apr 21, 2010 8:45 AM

Of course he’s going to deny it and I find it hard to believe in the first place. There could hardly be a more embarrassing request for McNabb to make.

  12. realitypolice says: Apr 21, 2010 8:46 AM

He would be expected to say this. He doesn’t want to alienate his current teamates. And all he has to do is send a quick text to T.O. saying that he shouldn’t listen to what he hears in the press.
    McNabb wanting T.O. makes sense:
1- the number of great years T.O. and McNabb had together
1- the number of problem free years T.O. usually has with any team
1- the number of years T.O. would get on a contract with the Skins
1- the number of years McNabb has on his contract
McNabb knows he needs a monster year this year to score another big money deal, and he knows a playmaker like T.O. could help him get it.
Then next year, McNabb gets a 3 or 4 year deal with a huge signing bonus, and T.O. is gone.

Lame ass reporters just trying to stir up shit in DC. It’s not going to work…SON!!

  14. Drat says: Apr 21, 2010 8:48 AM

Sounds to me like a light-hearted sarcastic McNabb joke uttered in what he thought was privacy — “I’d love to have TO here!” — got a life of its own, and now has to be stamped out.

  15. Steely185 says: Apr 21, 2010 8:51 AM

This is the trash that ESPN considers breaking news. The whole network sucks.

  16. Hank_SJ says: Apr 21, 2010 8:54 AM

Just like he denied telling Pam Oliver (2007) that his days as an Eagle were numbered and the team was beginning to distance itself from him. Typical McNabb, always looking to blame others.
As a communications major at Syracuse, you would think he’d have better sense when dealing with the press. But we went through 11 years of this stuff from him.

  17. Mean D says: Apr 21, 2010 8:56 AM

They should reunite. They are both turds.

  18. RugDaniels says: Apr 21, 2010 8:57 AM

McNabb is a perfect fit for D.C., he talks out of both sides of his mouth. He’s got the routine down already and it’s not even training camp…say one thing and then deny, deny, deny. Werder and Paolantonio are pretty credible reporters, they’re not Pam Oliver.

  19. doubldipp says: Apr 21, 2010 9:00 AM

I knew it was a big fat Lie

  20. flavordave says: Apr 21, 2010 9:01 AM

Ohh DC get used to this nonsense. Ask Pam Oliver how reliable of a quote he is. Hes the circus you never knew about. LOL

  21. DP says: Apr 21, 2010 9:04 AM

Here we go again with the BS, largely media induced. McNabb is also an idiot b/c he adds gas to the fire and can’t help himself. Who cares about this none news. TO is washed up. Are we going to resort to Mc5 doing sit-ups in his driveway tweeting he never asked for TO while watching reruns of TO’s reality show. Please stop the nonsense.

  22. Mooch says: Apr 21, 2010 9:07 AM

Wilbon? The man who wrote an article saying he was McNabb’s “friend”?
The Post must be so proud of his journalistic integrity.

  23. Cleg says: Apr 21, 2010 9:07 AM

You have to understand that Sal Paolantonio is an unabashed Eagles fan and suffers from the same affliction that the rest of Eagles fans do which is he is extremley insecure and needs to lash out agaisnt McNabb to make himself feel better and smarter. Werder is a Cowboy lover – these guys cannot be trusted.

  24. WarrenMoonGOAT says: Apr 21, 2010 9:10 AM

why would ed and sal lie?

  25. bluestree says: Apr 21, 2010 9:11 AM

The feud is back on (as soon as Owens signs with another team).

  26. VaBthang4 says: Apr 21, 2010 9:11 AM

ANYONE listening to Werder or Paolantonio get what they deserve.
Werder (author of “piped in RCA Dome crowd noise”) has always been more in his own mind then he is in real life and Paolatonio has no excuse for not having the access and inside information that he should have by being in NYC.
If I am a Sports Reporterwhatevertheftheycallthemselvesnow in either Dallas or NYC, I am the go to guy for either the Cowboys, Jets or Giants. Werder and Paolantonio are neither.

  27. fuhgyou says: Apr 21, 2010 9:12 AM

The instant that story came out it was refuted by mcnabb. Yet people still run with it.

  28. imabigdog says: Apr 21, 2010 9:20 AM

OH Washington… Welcome to the Donny-land. The ride has just begun.
Donny tried to make a power play right off the bat and coach Shanahan shut him down, now Donny is back tracking. HA HA HA
And Michael Wilbon… After your done slurping (your words) Donny maybe you can finally see him the way the fans in Philly do. But I expect that, like usual, you will do your “Oh poor Donovan” rant on PTI….

  29. dogfighter7 says: Apr 21, 2010 9:26 AM

Congrats on your new QB washington. Get used to the drama and excuses.

  30. straverse says: Apr 21, 2010 9:27 AM

I actually believe McNabb here. Sal Pal is a huge muck raking a-hole.

  31. Vox Duh says: Apr 21, 2010 9:32 AM

“That’s my quarterback….sniff sniff”! No, wait, Mr. Owens does not have a quarterback. That’s right, he doesn’t even have a team!

  33. KevinKolb4SB says: Apr 21, 2010 9:46 AM

Just like Mcnabb with Pam Oliver a few years ago. Say something and then deny it….he is just trying to get sympathy from fans to make it look like Donovan is a good guy for wanting TO back. He knows it will never happen.

  34. Hank_SJ says: Apr 21, 2010 9:48 AM

I don’t equate Oliver with Paolantonio and Werder. Just making the comparison that this isn’t the first (or last) time McNabb will make a statement to a media person then deny it.

  35. Black QB White RB says: Apr 21, 2010 9:59 AM

McNabb probably made a sarcastic remark like that, but then ESPN ,as usual, makes up stories and runs with it like it’s the gospel truth. how many times have we seen this from Sal P, Mortensen, et al… what a joke of a network, copying radio station breaking stories and calling it “breaking only here at ESPN”, on and on………

  36. Gunther69 says: Apr 21, 2010 10:08 AM

This BS, made up stories doesn’t make sense. Why would McNabb want TO anywhere near him? TO was a dick and threw McNabb under the bus. The only conclusion is Ed and Sal were deeked by TO’s agent like he did to Buff during the draft (the phony phone call).

  37. surefooted says: Apr 21, 2010 10:10 AM

hahahahah This stuff just follows McNabb.

This BS, made up stories doesn’t make sense. Why would McNabb want TO anywhere near him? TO was a dick and threw McNabb under the bus.
How’d they do the first year they were together? Um….didn’t they go to the Super Bowl or something?
Like I said previously, McNabb knows TO is good for one year before he blows up, and that is all Dmac needs to put up his numbers and get his new contract. TO would be on a one year deal, and would be gone when Dmac cashed in.

  39. myeaglescantwin says: Apr 21, 2010 10:36 AM

i think TO wants a QB that can hit him when he’s open. That’s what caused drama when he was here. He wouldn’t hit open recievers and TO said something.. it rang true till the point where it divided out locker room and caused the trade to happen.
If we had someone then to take the offense, we woulda done this trade a few years earlier. Shit thats why Kolb is even here, so we could send Donny on his way.
Everyone still thinks that sending Dmac to DC was bad for the Eagles. I see it as them garaunteed two wins this year. Philly FO wouldn’t have made the move if they didn’t think it helped us

  40. Hap says: Apr 21, 2010 10:59 AM

They do need a receiver. He’d be a good ‘un. If it’s a win NOW scenario, and with Danielle Schneidley it always is, he’d be a good one to pick up. Let’s face it, TO can play.

  41. AndyReidIsABadCoach says: Apr 21, 2010 11:03 AM

Shanahan acknowledged that McNabb wanted him back, so those who say this came from nowhere should pay closer attention instead of blindly dismissing the claim.

  42. tombrookshire says: Apr 21, 2010 11:10 AM

Mikey Miss said as much on his show yesterday. McNabb puts stuff out there and then immediately denies it when it get legs. That has been his MO since day one.

  43. 311 Rocks says: Apr 21, 2010 12:18 PM

Get used to the McNabb baloney Skins fans. He’s all about himself and he’s also delusional. He’ll never be a leader and he’ll talk about what “he” did when his team wins and but when his team loses it was the “team” and not him. And don’t expect accuracy or success in the clutch. He’s an 11-year vet but he is what he is….good but not great.

  44. jonni riviera says: Apr 21, 2010 12:34 PM

Just like I said yesterday when this news came out. If you believed this nonsense then the tooth fairy and santa claus are both on the phone for you. Mcnabb would be having his head examined to see if he was of sound mind had this been true. Just more Philly gossup now that he is the Enemy. CHECK YOUR SOURCES SAL

  45. Defx says: Apr 21, 2010 8:48 PM

If Sal Paolantonio says something, you can pretty much accept it as false.
