Guess you’ve missed all RebaT’s dozens of vicious comments to me these past four weeks–including the one to which I was responding. Most of the time, I’ve ignored her and tried to turn the other cheek. This time I didn’t. But I’ve never claimed to be a saint.
Being raped is not like getting a visit from Tinker Bell. The experience doesn’t leave you sprinkled with fairy dust so that suddenly you can fly, are overflowing with compassion for all womankind, and never again post anything sarcastic on a blog. That’s why even if we could arrange for you to be raped, it wouldn’t stop you from making snarky posts about other rape survivors.
Here’s a clue, jimicos. Suspensions by the league office mean jack shit when it comes to my ideals of criminal justice and due process. Football commissioners have no business trying to legislate morality. And this stuff has been going on among NFL players since the days of leather helmets. Suspending Ben Roethlisberger may help Ben. I hope so. It won’t do anything to change the the behavior of anyone else in the league. That’s just the way it is. I suggest you accept it and look forward to the next arrest.

So if you were accused of a crime, I would feel EXACTLY the same about you that I feel about Roethlisberger. I called Ben a jackass the first week this story broke. I don’t believe a mental health professional has certified him anything.
I said after Art II’s press conference I was 99 percent sure the Steelers intended to suspend Roethlisberger. I couldn’t go out on a limb and give a read on what Art II might be planning until after Art II made his statement.
This is a football site. This is a football story. Your constant political references are yet another demonstration of your immaturity.
My research was into the facts of the case, which haven’t changed. Since the facts of the case haven’t changed, my opinion on them hasn’t changed. My rape story is part of my life history. That hasn’t changed either.
I haven’t been trying to “net” anything for myself. Interesting comment. What have you been trying to “net” for yourself?

I think it funny all of the steeler fans that when they heard the pobbibility of trading ben….everyone said…it is going to take a #1 this year and a #1 next year to get him…too funy.
The steelers are ready to package their #18 with ben for possibly the raiders #8.
As I said before, no one wants ben. The only possibility will probably be the raiders. Still, I would be shocked if he gets traded at all this year.

Well said. The people clamoring for Ben’s suspension were thinking about it on a football level. Not many people on these boards could care less about the girl. Now that you have said that comment you will have plenty of people claiming that they do care about the girl, or don’t care about football in this situation.
I don’t think any impartial observer can look at this and say that this is fair to suspend someone from their job for not being charged with a crime. People will say they are cooperations have every right to do this, and they do. That, however, is the problem. We all laughed at that moron that insulted his boss on his twitter and got fired but if you really think about it someone got fried for voicing an opinion out of the office. Cooperations are the biggest threat to our freedom. How long before someone says on their twitter “I sure hope Obama wins the election” and gets fired by their conservative boss because she is an “at will employee.” Plenty of people are smiling at this rape (although the girl in Georgia didn’t accuse him of rape) case because it means a player they don’t like got suspended but when your player says in public “Christians are stupid” and he gets suspended it wont be as funny. Or when he says “I think Obama-care is stupid” and will be less funny. Then he will just have to keep his opinions to him self, which will be tough because there are cameras everywhere.

From my perspective, all of the morons on this board who were hoping that Roethlisberger would get suspended, either implicitly or explicitly, also likely hoped that the rape actually occurred so as to have evidence that would keep him from playing. In theory, if inconclusive evidence HAD arose showing that rape did not occur and news got about this, there would be no basis for punishment, including suspension. Therefore, the only alternative, in the absence of knowing what happened, was to hope that it happened – that is, to hope that some girl got raped by a football player that you can’t stand.
To me, that’s more disgusting than anything else.
