The 49ers have pulled off the first trade of the 2010 NFL Draft, sending a fourth-round pick and their first-round selection at No. 13 to Denver in exchange for No. 11.
With the 11th pick in the draft, San Francisco selected Rutgers offensive tackle Anthony Davis.
Davis, a 6-foot-6, 325 behemoth, was regarded as the premier pass protector in the Big East last season. He started all three years on campus, racking up 32 first-team appearances and finishing out his career at left tackle.
Despite a shaky offseason and history of weight fluctuations, the 49ers appear to view Davis as their left tackle of the future. How long he takes to secure that position remains to be seen. Incumbent blind-side protector Joe Staley — another recent first-rounder — is capable of playing both sides.
