As the NFL Draft invades the primary real estate of reality television, it needs a good drama (real or contrived) to draw maximum eyeballs in the first half hour. What better way to do it than to have complete and total uncertainty regarding the fate of the first overall pick?
With roughly four hours to go, it’s still not clear what the Rams will do. In an interview with Chris Russo of Sirius Mad Dog Radio, Rams G.M. Billy Devaney opted not to provide many details.
“I’ve got to be honest, it’s been just kind of bogus stuff,” Devaney said. “I’ll tell you this, we have not had a firm offer at all. It’s just kind of dancing around like would you think about it if it was right? But I’ll tell you nobody’s called today. So the longer this goes, obviously, it appears more likely that we’re going to keep the pick.”
Devaney wouldn’t say whether Bradford will be the pick. Though most assume that, without a trade, Bradford will be the guy, it would be foolish to rule out anything at this point.
Rumor: Raiders shopping McFadden. New rumor: Raiders not shopping McFadden. Rumor: Raiders interested in bananas. New rumor: Raiders not interested in bananas. Rumor: Raiders shopping at 7-11. Not rumor: rumors ad naseum.
im sick and tired of hearing all these rumors and then days latter, its reported that it wasnt true. McNabb, Campbell, Haynesworth, Tebow, Roethlisberger, when is it gonna stop!!
What if the Rams pass on the #1 pick, let Suh, McCoy, and Bradford go, and Then Take Okung. It would definitely save them money and fill a need.
Since the Rams haven’t got a contract with Bradford they should just let the clock run out and wait for the Bucs to make their pick and get Bradford at 3. Save some big money and really don’t have to worry about the Lions or Bucs taking a QB.
Gob Bluth will give you a firm offer
The fact that the Rams haven’t engaged in negotiations with whomever they anticipate taking indicates to me that the Rams were hoping that someone would trade up. Probably also means that the Rams are not sold on Bradford being a franchise QB, otherwise, they wouldn’t be holding out for a trade. Looks like the Rams will “settle” for Bradford barring a team (Browns) making a strong play to trade up to #1.
I also have to believe the lack of activity for the top pick means other teams in need of a QB don’t perceive Bradford to be a slam-dunk franchise type QB. Sucks for the Rams, but sucking for the Rams has been par for the course of late.
Well Rams seem to have bad luck with 1st round Dlinemen but really they should go with Suh rnd 1 then just grab mccoy in rnd 2.
lol @ funi, maybe she should have yelled “FIRE” instead
Well, the Rams will sign Bradford after all is said and done. Then comes the money question as in “How much are you gonna pay me now that you hav me?”
I always thought that all the signings of all the the new in-coming players to the NFL should be held right at the minimum until the player(s) has actually proven themselves both on and off the field. I think the minimum is something like $300,000. I can not believe that any of these guys who, I believe, have no one to take care of except themselves with a few exceptions, could not get by on 300 grand over one season. Just take the Browns for example because every team gets burned sooner-or-later. The money they spent to get Tim Couch(remember him?) and he was a total bust. Brady Quinn? What did he ever do to even approach the value the Browns paid out to sign him? Zip!
Play first and show the team what you have, and then start talking about getting a bigger paycheck during the off-season. I hate hold-outs even more. Team: “Here’s 30 million for five years with $12 million guaranteed.” Rookie: “No I want $40 million and $17 million guaranteed or you won’t see me at camp.”
Don’t we all wish we could come into a new job, totally un-proven, and tell our new employers how much we want before we come in to actually work for them?
