Mixed signals rampant on Browns pick

The Browns are doing their best to keep up with the Redskins in the misinformation department. We hesitate to pass all of the Browns rumors along because they conflict, which is precisely the point.

So let’s go for it.

There is a strong current of reports from Yahoo’s Charles Robinson to NFL Network that indicate the Browns prefer Boise State cornerback Kyle Wilson to Florida cornerback Joe Haden.  Others disagree

Eric Berry looks like the pick if he’s available, but he’s now expected to go in the top-six.  Two Cleveland papers write Thursday that the Browns may pass on the secondary altogether if Berry is gone, choosing Georgia Tech defensive Derrick Morgan.

Then, of course, there’s the notion Cleveland is a dark horse pick to trade up to for the No. 1 overall selection or trade back into the first round if Jimmy Clausen falls.  (Or pass on the pick altogether.)

If we had to guess, Morgan looks like the most logical fit if Berry is gone.  But the guessing game happening around the league right now is precisely what Mike Holmgren wants.

They’ll still be horrible; regardless of who it is.

So in other words, you’re aiding teams in their efforts to confuse everyone. Thanks; glad I read this.

I have absolutely no idea where some of these guys are getting the idea that Morgan is a 3-4 OLB. I mean, he wouldn’t totally suck at it, but he is much better suited to the classic 4-3 DE.

Good job Gregggg. I now understand that the Browns are expected to draft someone, or maybe no one.

This is why Holmgren is such a mastermind. Well, this combined with the fact that he signed Delhomme for a ton of money…

Am I the only one who watched Morgan get absolutely schooled by Iowa’s Bulaga in the Orange Bowl? And people are talking about Bulaga falling in the draft?
Crazy. I’m willing to draft as poorly as some of the current GM’s. For half the salary.

    Browns will get Dez.

  13. Larry David says: Apr 22, 2010 4:43 PM

I would never draft a player from the ACC in the top 10. What a garbage conference that is.

  18. IKnowEverything says: Apr 22, 2010 4:57 PM

They will probably trade down to draft another center.

  19. Mean D says: Apr 22, 2010 5:00 PM

Browns will go 2-14. They will beat the Squealers twice.

  20. David LeFebvre says: Apr 22, 2010 5:04 PM

As a Browns fan, pretty much the only way I’d be upset with their 1st round pick is if they get another hybrid DE/OLB. They had enough pass rush towards the end of last season, and so many other holes at S, CB, ILB, DL, RT, RG, WR, and QB, that I’d be shocked if they skipped filling all those needs and went for another pass rusher. But stranger things have happened, I suppose. Go Browns.

  21. PerchSports says: Apr 22, 2010 5:04 PM

Logical fit? Absolutely not. He’s a 4-3 DE, could not handle consistent double teams as a 3-4 DE. He’s not athletic enough to play OLB in a 3-4. I just don’t see the same player as Chris Long when I watch Morgan. Talented, yes, but not a 3-4 DE. There are few “true 3-4 DE, Cal’s Tyson Alualu is a great fir for any 3-4 defense. I see a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him. The logical pick if Berry is gone, Earl Thomas. It’s not a reach to take him @ 7, in my assessment he’s better than Berry, more versatile. If we were to find a partner to trade down, it would have to be only a few spots. There is huge interest in Thomas, Philly & Dallas love him. I also agree with Kyle Wilson being a better CB than Haden. Time will tell. TWO AND A HALF HOURS!!!!!!!

  22. norton99 says: Apr 22, 2010 5:04 PM

The ‘passed pick’ also creates another dynamic where all other teams still need to go through you to trade-up thus increasing trade-down opportunities for you.
Once your 15 minutes is up the next team goes on the clock but if you get your card in before them it’s still yours.

  23. marktg30 says: Apr 22, 2010 5:07 PM

Morgan will be the worst Top 10 DE ever taken… guy is garbage.

  24. buckifan4life says: Apr 22, 2010 5:12 PM

He just might take Dez Bryant if Berry is gone. Never say never…

I live in Cleveland and we have a guaranteed plan to create chaos and confusion.
    It’s called our management.
We have more holes to fill then the underbelly of The Titanic.

Yeah, we should’ve signed Cutler for more cash stupid.

  30. tobago says: Apr 22, 2010 5:52 PM

I think Morgan is a reach, another “tweener” like Wimbley who you have to teach a different position. Berry will definetly be gone, we will see if Holmgren lives up to his press clippings.

  31. doni says: Apr 22, 2010 6:17 PM

To ‘GoBrowns19’……….I wasn’t aware that you had a QB let alone one that had any equipment to commit a rape. Whatever, I figure if you drafted Jesus Christ himself he would drown in Lake Erie while trying to walk to Cleveland. Good luck in the draft jerk.

  32. doni says: Apr 22, 2010 6:23 PM

‘Holmgren is a mastermind’…………yea, so is Obama. Ha!
