More evidence Alan Faneca is available

Rex Ryan wasn’t happy when he heard about a report that Alan Faneca could be traded, but he didn’t deny the report either.

There’s probably a very good reason for that.

ESPN’s John Clayton, speaking on Sportscenter, is the third reporter this week to say Faneca is available.  We just can’t imagine a deal happening because Faneca is due $7.5 million in 2010.

There is a report that $5.25 million of that is guaranteed, which would be a lot of money for the Jets to swallow if they chose to release Faneca.

  1. WHY??? Do not mess with possibly the best offensive line in the NFL… Makes NO sense

  2. Come back to Pittsburgh and play RG!
The OL would then be solid after picking up a center on day 2/3

  3. who do they have in waiting where they can just release one of the best gaurds in the game.? seems dumb. Furgesson Faneca Mangold????thats the top left side of an OL in the league

Why? It would count against the non-existent cap, but that salary would be paid by the team they trade to, not the Jets.

  5. before or if the cap gets reinstalled drop all of your deadweight and start fresh if the cap is reinstalled.the guaranteed money is a small price to pay to right a bad contract

  6. Because the Jets are idiots…..I knew when they gave him all that jack, it would come down to this….
Hey Jets, Fred Biletnikoff is available, maybe you should go out and sign him too.
As long as you have the Burrito back there throwing, you will never be anything but a “I hope they don’t play theirs starters so we can get into the playoffs.” team.

  7. Why would you trade him? You sure as hell aren’t going to get much better, and you were just in a afc championship game. It is not a rebuilding year it is a go for it all year!!

  8. i thought when u said evidence u would have a link to how much his jersey cost on the jets website

  9. We know you are sitting around with nothing to do, and are really an outsider in this whole process. All you can hope for is that ‘ one of your pals’ whom you namedrop constantly will offer you a crumb of REAL info to pass on to PFT instead of your idle brainfarts. Not likely , tho…they are too busy doing real work.

It means that releasing him is not a viable option. Trading him is.

  11. hey steelcity79, I’ll take “the burrito” as my QB with ++ likelihood of improvement in Year 2 over Byron leftover Sandwich any friggin day. Say bye-bye to Ben.

  13. Please please please Bears get this guy… use the money you saved from Alex Brown and I’ll forgive his release.

  14. Don’t know if this means anything, butI heard the trainers threw his equipment out of the second floor window at the Jets practice facility. It’s lying in heap on the sidewalk.

  15. Big Al could go back to the Burgh and smack that “little bitty kid” QB back into line.

  16. The Pillager……
The only ring that Faneca is getting in Minnesota is the one around the toilet….
No SB again this year chief….sorry.

  17. WOW! Do some of you watch the Jets game or just go off a players name?? Faneca was one of the worst lineman in the NFL when it came to pass blocking. Run blocking he was great but pass blocking, he got killed constantly. Unless the Jets draft a OLine, Faneca wont be moved.
